Agree with you all - beginners don''t always know where to start and don't have a grandad behind them to help out like I did. Kits made up like this will stop modelling from dying out. If you can build this you can build an IKEA wardobe! NB - added likes for airbrushed left thumb.
I built this kit last week. First one i built in years. The parts fit beautifully. I added a few bits like antennae and a white arrow on the belly. It looks fantastic. Well done airfix
I'm impressed! I wish there was that Before You Start leaflet in the very first Airfix kit I got when I was a child! It's something a newcomer to the hobby should really hold onto for a while.
most kits have had things like that in them for decades , i'm holding the revell instruction sheet for the 1/72 p51 mustang ( a dreadfull vintage kit ) and it has a read before you start section .. but is it really an essential addition ?? more rubbish to go to landfill when everything you need to know and more is here on you tube i'll guarantee if you type how to do the airfix red arrows starter kit there will be video after video all explaining far better than what you can put on paper
That looks fantastic for newcomers to the hobby. I've made Airfixes since I was 5 years old. Took a break for a while. Well...50 years or so later, my boys bought me the 1/24 Spitfire for my 65th birthday. Crikey I thought....better do some catch up....A neighbour bought me a starter kit of the Red Arrow for my 60th birthday. I was a bit disappointed TBH. The paints has dried up for a start (not surprising really!). The kit didn't fit together that well but managed to get a reasonable result. (It was not of this vintage). Scratched my head a bit regarding the red but suddenly remembered I had a can of Vauxhall Frame Red for touching up my wife's Astra. Perfect! Great video - thanks and well done Airfix!
Now that is a true beginners set, not like the previous ones which to be honest would put most beginners off! Especially the FW190 and P-51 which can be tricky for children and absolute beginners. This is a great confidence builder and would be a great birthday present for a young modeller.
Ermm excuse me if it wasn't for that Fw-190 I wouldn't be here now it's a such a great fitting kit I bought another ... and the p51 is a perfect fit .... I never used filler on either ... now I am not the biggest airfix fan in fact I now avoid them like there the father in law. But the two kits you mentioned are great kits .... fw190 I put together within a day and that's without building a kit since I was about 8 yrs old. Would I give a kid a aircraft to build as his first model? Now that's the real question.. but they are great kits imho no planes should be a beginner model
@@vasili1207 you were lucky my was a pig and I'm an experienced modeller, you should read the reviews on amazon, its a lottery with some airfix molds it was going well until the engine cowling around the radial engine it just wouldn't meet, the spitfire beginners set was ok until the cockpit canopy needed some work to fit and the p 51 was incredibly fiddly for an absolute beginner especially with no tools which many beginners don't realise they need. I had no real problems with them but if your 8 years old and never built a kit before they could make you want to bin them which some people have done according to the amazon reviews! I think that a starter set should be exactly that, a set aimed at the absolute beginner and the one in this review is exactly that. Most starter sets seemed to be aimed at returning modellers or at least some with a little experience, I bought them because they were fairly cheap and did look good when finished but I can see a lot of beginners especially children getting no help struggling with some of the airfix starter sets

@Cmndr Roy Fokker Ive been saying that for years too.. i also shout that we need more Space vehicles like the spacex rocket and the like as proper kits
As the kids say nowadays.... Build wen? LoL. Is it done yet? How about now? 😜 Great job with those instructions I do have to agree. Good job at hitting a perfect price point for a first kit. Looks for sure like it will get some more people addicted to glue and spru's. Nice vid Mos!
Yes.. good value for money and a nice tidy builfd Thank you Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II for leaving a comment. Please subscribe if you haven't yet :)
I'm going to get this for sure. Don't need to be a beginner to enjoy a beginner kit! Question on the included red paint. Has anyone had success using it with an airbrush (suitably thinned of course!). I don't want to buy a whole pot of gloss red paint just for one little kit.
@@MOS6510Models did this over the weekend actually! It's a very orangey red and not really that glossy. Quite thick so thinned with vallejo airbursh thinner, flow improver and water. Sprayed about 4 thin coats to get good coverage then hit it with a gloss coat after. Decals and black panel liner and Bob's your uncle. The white stripe across the canopy was a ball ache though. Not easy to mask. Should have used masking fluid. I'll fire up a pic on Facebook when I get a chance. The kit itself falls together (as you'd expect) so I agree this could be a perfect starter set if you've got a bit of patience painting and applying the decals. The Spitfire starter set probably easier to paint/decal that this bad boy.
Probably? Certainly. And get it made live time? This can help the beginners see that it's not a marathon effort - a bit like you did with your Spitfire starter kit. PS - Airbrush your left thumb if you can please, it means the world to me.
Not bad but why do airfix re-tool stuff that they already have good versions of ... they are strange folk, wish they just release that Peugeot 205. I am so desperate for that thing. Why do they tease me mos why
