the small banana - “pisang emas” or golden banana: its not ripe enough.. needs to have more black spots on it. “dragoneye fruit” is actually longan not langsat..soursop if its slightly off you can mix/pulverise with some water to make into a drink! dragonfruit come in 3 varieties red, white & yellow. the red ones can and usually do discolour ur no 1s & 2s lol kedongdong is one of those that taste slightly better pickled or dipped in prune dust. the “potato” think was the chiku.. dont eat the skin. impressed so many fruits lasted that long in your fridge.. durian warning.. taste and smell does linger ;)

I think it is cute how Claud sees small things and thinks it is maggots !
I grew up climbing trees and eating these fruits without even checking for maggots haha and when I saw one, I would casually take it off my fruit with my own finger!!
I think these two should totally spend a week in Brazil, they would love our beaches !

We have lots of these in Brazil. Passion fruit (maracujá, as we call it here) is supposed to help you relax. We have maracujá juice almost everyday in my house. It's great to make mousses (dessert) and pies. Star fruit is our "carambola" and the rose-something fruit is our "jambo" (my grandmother had two jambo trees in her backyard, it was my childhood fruit). Glad to see you guys are relaxing, having fun and getting to try new stuff.

  • @chamisame

This was adorable and amusing 😂 Also quick note! Most of the words in Malay with "a" are pronounced "ah" instead of "eh", the "c" are pronounced as "ch" instead of making a "k" sound, and "e" are pronounced similar to how one would say "err" instead of the usual e in egg! So the cempedak sounds kind of like chem-pe-duck

Here in Brazil those fruits are very common, it's funny hear you call them with other names.
The first one is called "Jaca", the second "Banana Maçã" (it's strange because the name means "Apple Banana"), the third is "Jambo", the Fourth is called "Carambola".
    Good video guys!

Star shaped fruit must have been the inspiration behind the poaupu (no idea how it was spelled) fruit from kingdom hearts (video game from PS2 days). It’s said in the game that if two people share the same poaupu fruit it bonds them together for life. It’s a sweet idea of strengthening any kind of relationship this way and with that in mind, Jessica and Claudia, you have strengthened your marriage bond even further (if that’s possible as I don’t know you), nice idea though...

The banana may not be ripe enough. That star fruit looked a tad over ripe. Normally we cut out tip of the star.
The 'durian belanda' / soursop are usually lousy. The good ones are those ripen on the tree which is difficult to find.
That is not langsat. It is cat's eye.
The original kedondong is very sour. That one is a hybrid.

This is funny, because in Australia we get all these fruits just in our local supermarket.
Also, we call those bananas Lady Fingers here. And the reason they're firm is because those aren't ripe. They need to be yellow with a few black spots/marks on them to be ripe.

I find it interesting how some of those fruits are from the America continent (like guava, dragon fruit, passion fruit and papaya) and here (at least in Brazil) you can find rose apple, jackfruit and star fruit, which are from Asia.

When you eat belimbing (star fruit), cut off the star's edge because that's usually what make it bitter and weird. The inside part is quite sweeter and not bitter at all.

  • @lavachequirit02

Most of these fruits are popular in Brazil too. We call the jambu, 'jambo' (sounds quite similar, actually). The star fruit is named 'carambola'. The guava is called 'goiaba' and we also have a fruit named 'sapoti' that looks almost the same as the sapodilla. The jackfruit is called 'jaca'. Lots of asians fruits were brought to Brazil by the portugueses, when we were still a colony. They adapted so well to our tropical climate, that, nowadays, most people think they're local.

The jackfruit is interesting. If u cook with it before its ripe you can change the flavor of it. We use it at a restaurant where i live to replace pork on our vegan menu. Use it to replace bbq pork on our signature jackfruit nachos. Taste exactly like bbq pulled pork and its used in a lot of dishes on the entire vegan menu

The green one in the bunches looks like a june plum - a young (unripe) plum. The middle usually has a hard spiky pit and would be slightly tart when full (fit ) when green and more sour when ripe with a yellow skin. Its popular in Jamaica where I'm from.

All of these fruits remind me of my childhood, I've had all of them one way or the other and loved most of them. The fruit that Jessica and Claudia thought were loganberries are actually june plums, us Vietnamese usually eat 'em kinda unripe and pickled them in a salty sweet solution. You can also eat 'em ripe, at that point it kinda taste like a mango and a peach mixed together. The potato fruit or sapote/sapodilla is a bit different, you really have to let 'em soften up on the counter before eating or else it will have an astringent feel to it. Not good eatin'.

Trying weird fruit is one of my favorite past times! I wish I could get my hands on more interesting fruits for a good price here in Chicago.

Language Learning Lounge a lot of local fruits don’t travel well and are best experienced in the country of origin. So good reason to travel more :D

Hello from the Dominican Republic! LOVE your videos, love to see you happy.
We consume some of those fruits here in DR and I can say from my experience that some of the ones that didn't taste that great are actually better in a shake, or just plain juice.
Like yourselves, I wouldn't choose to eat guava, papaya, "elongated potato fruit" or passion fruit (not Claudia), however, I love juices/shakes with those fruits. My sister and I call the passion fruit shake "Happiness", it's that good, it's an excellent jam and we even have passion fruit cheesecake here xD LOVE it.
    K, bye.
PS. You're so great together can't wait for you to have your babies!

Mini bananas are available in the US too, and honestly they're infinitely better than regular bananas. We can also get papaya, and when we buy it I enjoy having it with sugar and lime. Guava is only available in nectar form, and it's the pink Mexican guavas with the tiny seeds, not the green ones.

it's like how you would pronounce Churm-Pur-Dark of which all Rs are silent, and the ciku is CheeKoo (tbh it's my first time seeing a potato-shaped ciku) haha. and we'd normally eat the Starfruit, Jambu, Guava, PIneapple etc sprinkled with plum powder to make it less sour! and yes! Guavas, pineapples are commonly used in Rojak - and its sauce is sweet, spicy, and sour! Also! the dragon eye is called Longan (Long-ahn), the duku langsat is another kind of fruit!

The potato fruit is called chico in the Philippines. The smell is comparable to alcohol that's why we often say "Amoy chico mo na" (You smell like chico already) when someone gets drunk.

So nice to see how Malaysia fruits are similar to Brazilian ones. Here we also have jambu, star fruit (we called it Carambola), Guava(goiaba) and Dragon eye(Pitomba here). You should try eating Guava with a sprinkle of salt.

If you ever find a place that sells them, give Asian pears a try! They are my absolute favourite fruit. Their insides look like an apple's. They're a summer fruit, though, so you're not terribly likely to find some before June or July at the earliest
