I'm not going to roast your telsa choice because of its quality or anything like that. I WILL roast your choice of Tesla because of their alleged anti-right to repair stance.
Roast Ford, Toyota, GM, Nissan, and Honda while you're at it! They all paid millions of dollars into the anti right to repair advertising front called coalition for safe and secure data. This front did nothing but air 30 second fear mongering ads of mechanics breaking into people's garages or following unsuspecting women into creepy dark parking lots with eerie music playing in the background, implying that you would be raped and beaten if the right to repair bill passed. All this bill did is allow you to continue to have an independent service center work on your car. ballotpedia.org/Massachusetts_Question_1,_%22Right_to_Repair_Law%22_Vehicle_Data_Access_Requirement_Initiative_(2020) scroll down to donors.
They deleted all traces of their false advertising after the bill passed. It will be archived forever in my video here th-cam.com/video/EozPi1qmH44/w-d-xo.html NEVER FORGET!!!
Watch those commercials and tell me it doesn't make your blood boil that an American car company that was bailed out with YOUR tax dollars spent over FIVE MILLION DOLLARS producing these FUD garbage commercials.
At the end of the day it's similar to the "it's easy to solve right to repair, just don't buy apple" fallacy. Apple is a bad actor but this has permeated almost every company at this point. None of these businesses want you to have options outside the dealer and if it were legal for them to lock you in to being stuck using their in house, overpriced service centers, they probably would.
@@rossmanngroup yeah you're not wrong about that. I do remember your video about those ads, very unsettling.
I keep getting emails from my local GM dealer trying to get me back for service. I much prefer the quality of service and the amount of information about my vehicle I get from the independent guy.
@@rossmanngroup And yet Tesla is still more anti repair than those. As you will find out over time.
@@rossmanngroup seriously consider a Prius Prime if you're buying something. You're in the right geographic area to score a deal and the federal EV tax credit. While Toyota did lobby against your rights, at least you still have your rights. Tesla has escaped all the laws related to repair rights. The Prime is a compliance car they are selling at a loss. Use this fact to your advantage. It is cheaper than a new Corolla.
@@rossmanngroup " 8.5 million people watch you, and you planted a seed today in their mind about right to repair. Thank you."

Anyway just commenting for support. thanks.
I love watching , always learn something about logical thinking and problem solving
Me too
I love his humor and me being a self taught solderer and repair tech learn every video
Yep, I am always glad to see a repair video. I like the challenge of pausing the vid before he gives the answer and trying to see if I can spot a problem area. Also, I'm constantly amazed at how fast he can rattle off technical information.
I love having his board videos on as background noise... Something soothing about it.
Why is this certified financial expert repairing MacBooks?
Times are tough
😂 Your comment is so sharp I almost cut myself
because he can
Hi there. I recently quit my full-time management job of 20 years working at a grocery store. I opened a Mac repair business late last year and now offer board repair services. I went from working out of a small room in my home to moving to a shop in the downtown area of my city. Business has been steadily growing. Your videos helped guide me and made me realize my true potential in the repair business. I want to thank you for all that you do!

@@jimtaylor431 same here, this is therapy to me
Truth.
I watch your board repairs because I've retired from all that but always enjoy watching them, especially when it gets a bit more technical (fault finding, like the owie test. I've been there.)
The constant corrosion problems really get to me. (I've edited the details down - it got too long, but could talk for hours on this) I worked on aircraft electronics that spent some time in Hong Kong harbour and then were left in storage for 6-7 years. They still worked perfectly when tested. (Cut the story of recertification)
Conformal coating is cheap and, erm, it just works™. Looking just now, I can buy it retail and it'd still be pennies to protect a board from liquid damage even without scaling up to production levels. When 'water' damage is the main threat, they install tell-tales that probably cost more than the prevention. Green or greed, Apple (et al)?
Wow. Did a random Apple Macbook repair search here on TH-cam, and it is a beauty to see your influence, Louis, your channel has had on many a folk. Your channel was a 1st and now so many followers are now sharing their knowledge gained and giving free to repair their Macs and other laptops a go. Schweet
I want more board repair videos. I need more board repair videos.
I DEMAND MORE BOARD REPAIR VIDEOS!
I was never here to watch board repair, right to repair, looking for a burrow in NY, or even Blackberry. Louis, you're the reason I'm watching. Your take on everything is very exciting to hear, and you make it easy to find everything you do interesting. Keep up the fantastic content, and we all support you.
I didn't watch the repair videos that you didn't do, I don't care about the repair just enjoy listening to you and maybe learning something.
It's great to see you demonstrating your expertise, performing your trade and having a tiny break from all your frustrations. I hope everything works out well for your business and you!
Why does Louis always look like he’s about to cry when he opens a MacBook 😅
Cuz he's a normal human.
Also why is this power nerd ripped like Henry Cavill?

Hey, I work for a US company that makes circuit boards and does repairs for boards coming both in and out and I really enjoyed watching this video. I run the SMT machines so I appreciate watching your soldering techniques.
Wife owns a fiesta and we love it. Had the dreaded transmission issues for a long time, eventually got fixed for real (i.e. replaced) and since then this car is awesome, cheap, and drives well. 10 yrs and still going strong!
I’ve been watching a lot of repair videos. It almost feels like being your apprentice. Iwant to do it for real one day.
Thanks for another board repair video. This is why I started watching your channel.
I enjoy these repair videos, even if most apparently do not. While I can no longer do this kind of work, watching broken electronic get fixed is still interesting.
This guy is so cool, he could do anything and people will watch. An amazing thing.
I think "all cars suck" is closest to the truth. I've had a Ford, a Honda, and a hyundai. Issues with all of them. Hyundai has had the least serious issues but it's also the newest I've owned.
Louis: "Hey Everyone!"
me: actually startled away from my spreadsheets by how unnecessarily cheery that intro was 🤣
These videos are incredibly useful. Thank you kindly for producing these.
I love the board repair videos with commentary.
"Hey guys, How's it going?"
love that. haha
You are, as I believe the saying goes, a mensch, for doing these so cheerfully knowing what we know. Many thanks.
Make sure the knowledge about the current draw with and without the screen is in the Wiki in the appropriate places.
I like the way the videos always start upbeat and cheery like a children's program and inevitably slowly descends in a litany of cussing and complaining about apple.
In Czechia, a mid-roll ad against aggresive driving was put on your video :D
Hey Rossman, I love watching people who have a firm grasp on the industry in which they have chosen. Like you I have others I watch for the same reason (they know their shit). It's relaxing to watch and listen to you. When it comes to cars, if you really want to learn, watch Scotty Kilmer. He understand his industry. He's done well for himself just by telling what he knows and not pulling any punches. weird
I appreciate Lewis doing this upload despite knowing ahead of time it probably won't get the usual views. Also loved that analogy- definitely going to use it whenever it is I have to explain right to repair to my parents for a ballot initiative in my state.

@@brandonlittle6444 Funny story. I remember the other day reading an article that suggested, a part of white privilege is people knowing how to spell/pronounce your name, or at the very least not butchering it on purpose. I clicked youtube comments, and did a search for luis, lewis, rosman, rossman... one day of comments fills an entire page.
Putting race aside; my name is literally spelled out in the name of the channel, and no one can spell it. I laughed, and went back to my work.
Yup I dunno I still love the board repair videos, your commentary during them is priceless, from right to repair to weed laws without skipping a beat and still fixing people's broken shit
The one dislike on this video is from a lobbyist against right to repair.

Louis, don't overestimate all wheel drive on ice, it's better than rear wheel drive but investing on winter tires is still preferred - just be mindful at least, I wouldn't stop you.
I'd rather avoid driving on ice altogether.
@@rossmanngroup you haven't lived until you've driven all night through an ice storm in Wyoming to get from Montana to Colorado. Speed is not your friend especially in a front-wheel-drive Civic.
AWD gets you moving, but it's always stopping that's the challenge for sure. I've spun (at low speeds in a roundabout) with studded tires before as well.
The Rossmann, the man, the myth, the legend,
Small towns around where I live in South Dakota are not great places to find local work. Aside from things like gas station, grocery store, or bartender, the only work to be had is at the CO-OP, as a hand for a farmer, or perhaps some labor job like construction. Most of them are full of elderly people, and any youths tend to leave for a bigger city where work is available.
Keep in mind that the towns I am talking about are like 50 - 300 people, so more like a village - but farming is ubiquitous outside the larger cities.
The small towns within 40 miles of a big city may have more youths and young adults, but most of them commute to the city for work.
The only thing the rural areas have going for them is that the people who live there are polite, courteous, and friendly - but that ain't gonna pay the bills.
I know everyone has a different experience with products so “your mileage may vary”. I’m on my 4th Mazda. I’ve never had any mechanical failure with any of my Mazda’s beyond something little like an automatic window motor. They don’t offer any hybrid that I am aware of but with the Skyactive G platform I get 360 miles per tank city driving and I paid 16k for it new in 2012. I always advise people to consider Mazda. That’s just my own experience.
"The I-dont-know-how-to-prounounce-it canal" LOL
To be fair, they had incredible winds and without good tugs, a boat that large is just gonna get pushed around in a canal with no where to go. But its still funny and also awful for all the crap thats going to get screwed up.
200 Billion Dollars Per Hour.
learning is so fun! thanks Louis!!!! i will watch every new board repair vid you do!! on two accounts!!!
Well, I can tell you my decision making process that got me into a Ford F-150. Cost of ownership. They're the most common vehicle sold in North America, meaning parts are available everywhere both OEM and Aftermarket. No expensive specialty shops. And dealer only parts exist but they're not common parts to break. I've also found in the 8 years I've had my truck, that most times, the parts are cheap due to the fact that they're everywhere. That said, it's also been the most reliable vehicle I've owned so far; having owned an Eagle, Toyota, and a Chevy so far. That said, I'd buy another if I were in the market for a new one.
There was one common issue that came up that was a non-wear with this truck. The issue is 100% caused by poor maintenance (bad oil change schedules) and more likely occurred before I had the truck. I bought it used at 99k miles, it's now just over 250k now. Another issue popped up that is annoying but it's still original wear parts that are wearing down at this point. Otherwise, mechanically everything works beautifully and feels just as good as the day I got it if not better.
that all said, I cant speak to Ford's other vehicles.
I have no idea what’s going on but I’m here for it
if you drive an EV in Norway (around Oslo) you can drive in the bus lane. So there you have a cheat code, drive EV to escape the standing cars in the buss lane. originally all EV-s were probably Tesla, so that lane is called "Tesla lane". :D
I just cant wait to see a M1 in this channel!
Love ya luis. will make sure to go and watch your playlist. just found you. i actually logged some time at apple in sunnyvale....you won't believe how bad it was.
this is so annoying, that if the owner would take his laptop to apple, they will replace the whole motherboard instead of this chip, and then they says that the enviroment is importent to them while they create unnecessary e-weste.
No no you’ve got it wrong. They’ll charge you the cost of the Mac Pro to repair the whole laptop. The motherboard failure fro Apple= your laptop is fucked and you have to sell yourself to get it fixed.
It's not much different than the ECM module costing $2000 being swapped out at the dealer, when they could diagnose it and replace a bad chip in the module. It's just simpler to swap out the whole board. Diagnosing something takes time, which equals money.
Love watching your work!
I would love to hear more about how you source these parts. I'd also love to learn how to find places to rent time on a hot air station. Last macbook of ours that broke, I took it apart very carefully with like 50 post it notes for each of the screws and other parts, cleaned all the corrosion I could find with rubbing alcohol, and then put it back together because if that didn't fix it, there is nothing I can do with a normal-sized soldering iron, no schematics, and no spare parts. It unsurprisingly didn't work and I messed up a tiny plastic speaker plug, so I ended up sending it to someone on eBay to get repaired who seemed to be working out of a garage in LA. He fixed it on the second try, surprisingly for what I paid. I know where to buy schematics, but iFixit only seems to sell discrete components (e.g., logic board). Next time this happens, if I know I will be able to order the components I need and can find a rework station to rent time on, I would love to do the repair myself and most likely spend a day learning to use hot air / fixing my mistakes. That one laptop is an A1466 with the 820-00165 logic board. I can see that your website does not sell parts -- quite understandable, I've heard your stories and even in my labs in school people would blame burnt ICs on the suppliers -- so who does sell these? Ideally at low volume for a customer who may only need them once every few years? Is this even in reach of someone like me?
Hey, with your nft idea, you could persue it, have to be a one of a kind of course and you need to get the story out, Philip defranko might be worth reaching out to. He seems pretty caring about social issues from his tone and I'm sure he'd like to see if what he's built can help make a difference to his America, make it a better place and all
Here for the fanspin! lol.
I'd rather miss someone that isnt there instead of hit someone who is there.

Underarmour is legit the best for doing any kind of exercise that gets sweaty, and if not for the fact that I've tried a few other "sportswear" shirts that completely fuck up that use case, I would hate the pricing. It's fine. Though half my shirts I bought at their outlet store 'cause I'm cheap.
Before I knew about Louis.. I had a 15" 2008? MacbookPro have an NVidia GPU failure.. After limping the on-board graphics for years. I finally destroyed it in a fit of rage after it failed to POST... I think about that everytime I watch one of these vidoes.
This is Classic Rossmann content 👌
Me looking at the board... Yes this is a board with chips.... Louis look at the board - happy noises :) Keep it up! Like the content!
My '02 Ford needed sparkplugs. This engine may have plugs that were too long and seized or plug threads too short and would blow out. Mr. Ford, which do I have? "Uh, we don't know. For $1400 we will replace them!" I gave the truck away! Done! Happier!
Watching that copper wick soak up the solder is so satisfying to me.
Hey Louis, why don’t you do a video in which you remove every single chip, capacitor, resistor, etc from a logic board, clean every little blob of solder from the entire board and set each piece back to its proper place?
I realize that this probably sounds terribly monotonous and boring to you but I for one would love to see it.

Hey! Louis, if you need a new place of work, might I suggest coming down to Columbus, ohio? Or the surrounding areas, Ie, Whitehall, Dublin, Reynoldsburg, or canal Winchester?
Upsides would be readily available clientele, as we have a apple store here, as well as a Micro Center that sells Mac products, cheaper rent, compared to
New York, as well as cheaper tax rates (7.5% sales tax here). If you go to Columbus, you will be near the international Airport allowing a slightly more varied clientele.
Downsides? Its....interesting here. In Columbus if you choose downtown, you will get the rich snobs, be dealing with hellish traffic, as whoever designed downtown Columbus was a idiot and made all the roads and streets there tiny!
Oh also I live the board repair vids. And the right to repair vids.
man you r speaking the truth
As long a s you don't buy a Volvo you are buying from my costumer. They all have problems but most car brands reliability is far better the it has ever been. The biggest improvement in cars is CNC machining of mechanical parts , the tolerances are so small now that a cheap car will drive for 200,000 miles with no major problems.
What happened to the cats and real estate consulting?
Welcome back; we miss your board repairs :)
Maybe the chips are in one of those container ships waiting off the port at LA. There's about 40 ships waiting there, everything being shipped from Asia to the US is delayed.
Hi Louis!
good stuff. You are always really relaxed and chatty when you are working. Good stuff Louis.
PS Can people from abroad, UK, contribute towards you right to repair thing? I figure if America does it the that would be good for us to but I'm unsure if its allowed?

Hi Lewis just curious why don't you use Kapton tape to avoid burning out other components when soldering / desoldering?
I'm excited
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! LOUIS ROCKS!
Hey Louis will you be making videos when you go traveling with your car?

Should've gotten a VW ID4... Pretty easy to work on. Schematics available :)
I totally agree with you. As a customer, I like if I can fix my things instead of buying new. That's why I never buy Apple. So in the end, isn't it the customer's choice? Would it be fair (in a free market) to force Apple to sell all their chips? Just a thought. I may not have fully understood the 'right to repair' issue.
YES! Louis board repair :)
P1326 in a Hyundai is a knock sensor code, might want to look at better fuel, I'm a senior technician at a Hyundai dealer.
Who were you replying to about P1326? Just curious where the discussion is. Ah yes, 30:00 . Yeah, its got too aggressive timing for crap fuel then.
The reason for rather taking a car even if it takes triple the time is because you can be in isolation and in comfort the entire time. I would however not move into a space that does not come with at least one parking space included.
Tesla has the same problem with consumers basically not being able to get parts and do their own repairs, but at least they do give better service and fix more themselves unlike Apple and give better warranty in that sense as well.
And Tesla's are pretty damn good cars with at least good range and drive great, and look better than most electric cars, and have more options (as standard) to what you can do with it, for settings and sensors etc.
So I had a power-surge though a USB port that killed the USB controller the mini DP port on my Dell G5 5590.
Is it normal for a replacement motherboard to cost more than the laptop itself? Just tried to get replacement parts from Dell and got quoted $2000 for a board with the 9th gen i7 and RTX2060.
The Computer was bought new in 2019 for approx $1500. Used boards on ebay go for $1,000+ too.

Excuse me, TH-cam? No notification?
Where can i find a list of what voltages i should have on something like P5VS4? And i don't mean that number in particular. I'm looking for a list that has voltages for all the ppv's and p3v's and STD's and AT&T's that are around. I'm working on an A1398 that was running, and would randomly shut off. It would turn right back on and run fine again. It did this for quite a while, and not I get nothing but a Brief green charge light, which switches to orange and DONE. No fan spin. I have G3H with 12v and U7501 seems to have no shorts and be enabled where it should be (i think)... its pulling 0.028amps from my chinese made bench supply, for what thats worth... I was following along with another video, but you found "pubes" in it so you covered it in flux and changed the chip.. This macbook hasn't been opened before me today. I'm hoping this video will pickup where that one left off, but you seem to stop testing when you find the issue.. (as you would in a repair shop.. lol) but for someone who's problem maybe a little further, if you keep going with what you would test next, you would really help people like me solve problems a little easier..
