Reptile doesn’t get enough respect…Sub Zero will always be my favorite because I bear MK1 with him first but Reptile should get as much love as Sub Zero and Scorpion.
I always played as reptile in MK2 ,I liked his finisher where hevrevealed his lizard head& his long tongue came out& ate the opponents head. That finisher needs a 2023 version..
Reptile is definitely underrated, underused and sadly they have re-created him too often. While I do like the klassic Reptile I also find his reptilian form crazy good. It just makes sense and fits his name. I always had the idea of Reptile looking human is because he adapted like a Reptile does since he was living under humanoid people to blend in (Ninja x Reptile). The less human contact he has the more he goes back to look like a Reptile. Essentially he loses his "human camo". I need him back, they did him and Ermac too dirty.
I still can't understand why have Ed Boon never thought of turning him into a sort of Anti-hero, considering his backstory and motivations. Just imagine all the potential.
Reptile & Baraka both get used as fodder even though in their stories & in game play they are absolute beasts. Unfortunately to have the heros have a strong narrative, there needs to be jobbers to make them look strong.
I'm pretty sure the first couple of iterations of why reptile looks like a human is because Shang Szung on uses magic to change him into one so that his powers can be deceptive because as you said his race was capable of winning 10 straight Mortal Kombat tournaments
The BEST 2 looks Reptile has ever had is; 1. Full Lizard Reptile - MK: Deadly Alliance. 2. Human Reptile - MK: Shaolin Monks. Used to use him a lot in Deadly Alliance as I learned to be pretty good with his style(s). But in all other MK games, he was nothing special IMO.
In a future game, I want Reptile to rescue a Saurian Matriarch, with her presence restoring Reptile's Human form and intellect, boosting his fighting skill again, and freeing him from his destructive cycle of allying with the forces of evil to save his people. A growing Saurian faction allied with the forces of Earthrealm would be cool af, and serve as an effective counterbalance to the introduction of new and deadlier evil forces to drive future MK Universe stories. Varying degrees of Reptilian skin and appendages amongst the additional playable and non-playable Saurians would be cool, too.
Here's hoping the rumored leaks of Reptile's MK12 Arcade-Ending being a much needed canonical Retcon that removes Reptile's status as a jobber are true🙏

Reptile: From a secret NPC that's the best of Sub Zero and Scorpion that wasn't even possible to play because of hybrid abilities and controller issues... to some reptile extraterrestrial alien dressed as a green ninja. Reptile was far more interesting when he wasn't actually some kind of reptile. Can you imagine if they did that with Scorpion? I mean, made him some kind of secret humanoid warrior scorpion of some kind after the 1st MK game. That would really f^ck him up... they did that with Reptile.
