OPR saved the hobby for me. I tried to get back in the hobby with killteam and was a bit overwhelmed with all the rules. I discovered OPR and never looked back :) I haven't played it in a while but for me it's like the essence of wargaming. Great video with awesome forces!
Yeah, I began in 2020 with KT18 and I really liked it, but it got stale after a while and then KT21 is just too much complex for my tastes. I mean the rules in a more basic sense are actually really great, but the game muddies everything up with secondaries, stratagems, items, so on and so forth. OPR on the other hand feels slick, fast and is really really fun.
I've always considered GW's models to be more enticing than their rulesets, and the rulebooks have only become more bloated since like 7th ed. OPR incentivises me to collect their awesome models but play them in fast and fun games.
"They're just in it for the college tuition." 😆 This was great fun, seeing combat resolved so quickly; rather than handfuls and handfuls of dice producing little effect.
Onepagerules really helped me getting back into the hobby big time. I played my first tournament in twenty years and had a great deal of fun, found a new group of players in my area, and gave me back the joy of painting and collecting miniatures. I really didn't think this was possible. It is so much fun!
The huge bump in views for a OPR battle report gives me great hope for this game going forward. Love this game and it's simple enough to teach my grade-school aged kids.
It’s worth noting that there’s a whole bunch of optional rules to flesh out the core rules to your liking (available on their lowest Patreon Tier). Things like Overwatch, taking cover etc.
PDF of full rules with added options (command points, overwatch, reactions, sub mission etc.) can be purchased for $4.99 on drivethrurpg or wargamevault.
I'll also add that even if you're not playing competitively, some of the tweaks in the competitive rules help smooth over some of the common balance complaints. I personally think they should be part of Core, but it's not a huge deal.
That Eternal Dynasty army looks great! Just a couple of minor rules notes, heroes don't need to be attached to units and in deployment the player who won the roll off places a unit first then the players continue alternating in placing one unit each until all units have been deployed.
That said, you generally don't _want_ to leave your Hero units all by themselves, unless they're already high Tough. There's no "Look Out, Sir" mechanic, save the ability to put Heroes into other units.
@@Bluecho4 it really depends on the ability the hero has. If I have a pycher, sometimes I like to have him on his own so he can move more freely. Being in a group can hold you back sometimes. The battle brothers standard squad has regen so I like to put a pycher with them sometimes
Hey, currently looking into OPR and can't find details on this: When a hero is attached to another unit, does he move with the Unit's speed, or does the Unit move with his speed, assuming one has fast / slow and the other doesn't.
OPR saved my Space Wolves from going on Ebay. I was heart broken with how much time I spent painting them for GW to throw normie-marines out the window.
Almost every rules set in the world is better than 40K at this point. There's no "finally" involved. There are forty year old games like Laserburn and Alien Squad Leader that play better than GW's current offerings.
Need to give this a try. As a casual 40k player this looks like a great simpler set of rules to use. Might pull out some old plastic squats and give it a go. On another note loved seeing the AT 43 stuff being used, I always wanted some of the AT-43 Karmans.
So happy to see you cover one page rules. It’s my go to game for friends who haven’t played war games before. Quick easy simple and I can use alsorts of models, plus the points generator from patreon is great. By far my favourite is gang fight
Cool using my Therians(robot legion), UNA (Battle Brothers) and Red Blok (Human Defence Force) with OPR rules. So happy to get them to the table again. Love the simplicity of the rule, really like that no heaps of complex rules to learn and info to retain. Just get models to table and roll dice.
I've been with the One Page Rules Patreon for over a year now. The Saurians are some of my favorites but I have a few different full armies to choose from. I don't know how to describe it but there's something great about One Page Rules. It's more fun and laid back. It feels more like a hobby and game night. It's been great painting and building up my armies with no consideration of cost. I just print what I want with seemingly unlimited choices to work with.
OPR is definitely a game that respects the player's time more. You aren't working what is essentially a second job, that you pay for, just to keep pace with the game. You just show up on game day, maybe take five minutes to refresh on the rules (if that), and get to playing. In games that generally resolve themselves much faster, so it's easier to squeeze a game into everyone's busy schedules.
Awesome - got back into gaming with my GW mini collection with OPR, it’s loads of fun, quick and easy to play. Look forward to a few more games - as others have said, the enhanced rule pdf is worth every penny and really helps flesh out the core rules, especially the additional activation options
What an awesome surprise! I'm a big fan of one page rules, and I think they have done a great job making rules that are simple but still fun to play. Great to see a battle report and with some classic minis to boot! Thanks Ash!
OPR is amazing! Had stored all my minis in the attic before I found out about OPR. Now they are battling again on the table top with all kinds of minis, GW and what not we find that fits! Love the rules and love the OPR minis
Got back into tabletop wargames about a year ago and my buddy only wanted to play 40k. After a couple games i convinced him to try OPR and we have never gone back. 40k is fun to list build but when it comes to actually playing OPR takes the cake for me
This was great! I love OPR and getting to see you use old AT-43 models while playing was a joy. The video was also well done as usual for y'all. Easy to follow the game and rules you were using.
played my first game of this recently, i have to say i love how easily and how quickly everything is to pick and how easily the rounds resolve as well. Fantastic for new players getting into wargaming and great for the rest of us who want something a bit simpler.
Ayyyyoo, finally a quality OPR batrep. Hope we get to see more of these with the different factions! Love that you can use your different models to give it a different flavour.
I adore OPR. Their 3D Printing model range are amazing, and I greatly prefer their rulesets to 40k and AOS. Very lucky to have a thriving GDF tournament scene in Ottawa.
OPR is the only reason myself and others I know still buy and paint minis. It's so refreshing not feeling jerked around all the time with rule changes and to just play games. Almost forgot what that was like.
Thanks for the great video! Some friendly rules notes: 7:08 armies are not deployed at once. Both players alternate in placing one unit each. 13:55 Dragon Bike has Strider, so it ignores only difficult terrain, not any terrain. Only flying units do so. 16:04 Hero does not add +1 to morale roll, just allows unit to use hero's Quality in morale test. 16:49 and 44:49 Objectives are taken at the end of the round. 21:39 Captain went further below half of his Tough, so he should again test morale for pin. 42:05 Objectives are taken at the end of the round and pinned units can not take them, so objective should remain neutral. Please do more OPR videos. Maybe Age of Fantasy?
He also forgot that his big unit activated before they charged, but going by the roles, I'm not 100% sure it mattered. I'd love to see fantasy too, especially Regiments.
Very excited for OPR content! I find it much easier to play as I can use my various models, plus in their patreon they have a custom unit point calculator that enables you to make special characters and heros, or entire army lists from scratch.
Been a OPR patron now for 6 months and the models for 3D printing are amazing. The rule set is concise and great for a fun throw down without toting 3 codexes and addendums just to play correctly. Hope to see more of you playing their ruleset. Though I know the TH-cam algorithms are tailored to Warhammer sadly.
OPR is a great gateway to minis-agnostic quick playing sci-fi and fantasy rules, with a big player community testing and tweaking the rules and army lists, all free to get started
Always good to see you tackle some of the smaller rulesets. I am surprised to finally see OPR on here but very cool. I would have preferred the skirmish level called GFF-Firefight but hey, I'll take what I can get. :) Kudos.
OPR was one of my great hopes of getting my abundant AT-43 collection back to the table with this for large battles and Firefight for skirmish (and maybe try out DeadZone after all for some quick and dirty micro skirmish?). Also there is a rule set I wanted to try out for repurposing my tier 3 infantry and light to medium walkers: Gamma Wolves - you might have heard of it 😝 Last but not least: love your army and how you touched up all of them!
Now that you have tried Grimdark Future. I’d love to see you try out FTL from one page rules and see how you feel it compares to stuff like BFG and A Billion Suns.
I'm very interested in this system and I would really like to see more videos on this from you, including something like an in-depth review of the rules or discussion of the system in terms of it being a valid 40k equivalent.
Both your units and enemy units block LOS for shooting, so the lizards would have blocked some of the fire at the commander. Great game and look forward to seeing more in the future.
Other people have mentioned the optional rules available to Patrons or people who buy the full rulebook. But there's also Campaign and Competitive rules available for free on the site. As are a set of Mission Cards, 36 (d66) Objectives that can be drawn or rolled to determine scoring on a round by round basis. So not unlike the 40K secondary objective cards. That way, even if you're not quite ready to spend money on OPR, you have some more options for adding tactical complexity to games.
I discovered OPR recently and I'm very intrigued by it. I'd be very interested in learning more about it. I also already see a number of things that it has and does better than 40K. 🙂
Loved the batrep. Grimdark Future from One Page Rules is like 40k lite... no rules bloat, just casual gaming. Putting fun back in the hobby. Just my 2 cents.
Gonna have to download this system, you guys should play some deadzone or firefight from mantic games, pretty easy to follow without crazy 40k codex shenanigans
Real basic question - most of the OPR army lists only show 1-person units. What are the rules and figure-limits or instructions for correctly forming squads in these cool-looking rules? (I note the fantasy OPR lists seem to have more 3- or 5-model units listed). Thanks in advance!

Speaking of which does anyone know which GDF faction would best represent veer-myn? I have veer-myn Volt Chasers starter set (cyber rats?), 4 Ratkin Nightmares, Ratkin Night Terror (with the stabby slicers), 5 creepers, and a tunneler. Edit: Never mind, just found the literal "Ratmen Clans" faction.
This game save the hobby, far far better than the 2 GW Core. I dont put my 40k stuff on ebay only for play this game( a real Simply game, not like 40k with 4-5 books faqs, comprendium and campaign you need)
I don't think it's been mentioned - it seems like you selected a spell for your psychic officer before battle, but you're supposed to have access to all 6 faction powers at all times I love grimdark future, it is the glue that put my local gaming community back together
This has been the saving grace game for me. It drove me nuts that the fluff never matched the tabletop in 40k. It also sucked that so many armies had only the starting 5 and no bench options. Sorry but it gets old seeing the same thing sover and over. With OPR it encourages you to expand and play some of thr case sitters opening up more open games. Combine this with all the new models and you have a great mix. I can now use my Mantic Enforcers, my Relic Knights, even my Robotech models in games. This is the way games should be.
OPR saved the hobby for me. I tried to get back in the hobby with killteam and was a bit overwhelmed with all the rules. I discovered OPR and never looked back :) I haven't played it in a while but for me it's like the essence of wargaming. Great video with awesome forces!
And the best part is even if you don't play it for a while, you can pick up and play with WHATEVER you have and the rules are still easy.
Agreed as I had the same experience. Opr is where it's at
Yeah, I began in 2020 with KT18 and I really liked it, but it got stale after a while and then KT21 is just too much complex for my tastes. I mean the rules in a more basic sense are actually really great, but the game muddies everything up with secondaries, stratagems, items, so on and so forth.

OPR is sooooo good plus their minis a awesome. Was a 40k man from the 90's but opr games are so much more engaging and fun!!
"They're just in it for the college tuition." 😆
This was great fun, seeing combat resolved so quickly; rather than handfuls and handfuls of dice producing little effect.
That was a great comment by Ash! 🤣
Damn, this looks ten times better than current 40k, the I go you go I think is the future of table top wargaming.
Onepagerules really helped me getting back into the hobby big time. Every month the Patreon releases a set of scenarios for both of their main games which go beyond capturing objectives.
It's just fan house rules, you could add unicorns for all it would matter
Loved this! Please please please play more of this and age of fantasy, love seeing your older models in play.
That Eternal Dynasty army looks great! Just a couple of minor rules notes, heroes don't need to be attached to units and in deployment the player who won the roll off places a unit first then the players continue alternating in placing one unit each until all units have been deployed.

"They're just in it for the college tuition." I resemble that remark.
OPR saved my Space Wolves from going on Ebay. I was heart broken with how much time I spent painting them for GW to throw normie-marines out the window.
Glad to see OPR GF! Love the flow of the game.
Have been waiting for you to try this!
Will be watching shortly.
The game that is a better rule set than 40k. FINALLY!!!!
Omg yes

Finally! OPR is so much better. More, please.
@ 17.05 - you can see in the left hand side of the screen on the lower shelf, a Relicblade measuring Gauge. Relicblade is a neat game.
Omg yes yes yes!! I was just commenting on this a few weeks ago and I can't wait to see how this plays out
Love the Depeche Mode reference!!
So happy to see you cover one page rules. It’s my go to game for friends who haven’t played war games before. Quick easy simple and I can use alsorts of models, plus the points generator from patreon is great. By far my favourite is gang fight

OPR, AT-43, Starship Troopers, Dodgeball AND a Dune reference all in one video? Well played!!
What an awesome surprise! I'm a big fan of one page rules, and I think they have done a great job making rules that are simple but still fun to play. Great to see a battle report and with some classic minis to boot! Thanks Ash!

Best set of Wargaming rules out there! Period !
Great game. I like how quick and streamlined the rules are.
I was hoping to see some OPR games here, they have recently caught my eye and feel like a lot of just good casual dice chucking fun.
Two hobby loves: GMG and OPR!
I LOVE IT! Thank you so much for highlighting this Ash!
Got back into tabletop wargames about a year ago and my buddy only wanted to play 40k. After a couple games i convinced him to try OPR and we have never gone back. 40k is fun to list build but when it comes to actually playing OPR takes the cake for me

Happy to see OPRs Grimdark Future being played. Please continue or maybe show other OPR rulesets. Cheers.
I’ve yet to play a game, probably going to be a solid when I do, but I absolutely love OPR! The rules are so streamlined and fun. Great game. Thanks!
Thanks for finally doing a OPR Let's Play. Looking forward to you trying out the various fantasy rules or perhaps the campaign rules.
Thanks for the great video!
Some friendly rules notes:

That was an incredibly fun watch. Thanks so much for this vid!
13:30 I believe you roll 6 dice on the defense roll for the two hits. You roll one defense die for each wound
Very excited for OPR content! I find it much easier to play as I can use my various models, plus in their patreon they have a custom unit point calculator that enables you to make special characters and heros, or entire army lists from scratch.
Thanks for the OPR content. Great to see it from you guys.

Grat to see this ... Im very intrested in playing the skirmish version of this.
Finally! I would live to see you do more of their games.
OPR is a great gateway to minis-agnostic quick playing sci-fi and fantasy rules, with a big player community testing and tweaking the rules and army lists, all free to get started
Great game, love OPR and they also have rules for solo play. I hope we see more of OPR games.
WOOH old AT-43 minis! If I still lived in the north I would come play you with my AT-43 Karmans.
Always good to see you tackle some of the smaller rulesets. I am surprised to finally see OPR on here but very cool. I would have preferred the skirmish level called GFF-Firefight but hey, I'll take what I can get. :) Kudos.

Last but not least: love your army and how you touched up all of them!
I love the scheme for th Eternal Dynasty! Also, OPR games battle reports are really fun to watch for me, so keep 'em coming :)
Now that you have tried Grimdark Future. I’d love to see you try out FTL from one page rules and see how you feel it compares to stuff like BFG and A Billion Suns.
Amazing start to finish. I hope it gets more people playing OPR
I'm very interested in this system and I would really like to see more videos on this from you, including something like an in-depth review of the rules or discussion of the system in terms of it being a valid 40k equivalent.
How cool is this, GMG and OPR!
Oh Snap! Ash and OPR? Thanks buddy for the video!
Would love to see more!
Both your units and enemy units block LOS for shooting, so the lizards would have blocked some of the fire at the commander. Great game and look forward to seeing more in the future.

Wow, this was so fast... almost looked like a skirmish... very refreshing maybe I get my minis out of the basement.
This was great! I kind of want to see you guys play Age of Fantasy Regiments now.
Over the moon that you are doing this!
Well played guys. One thing to mention, I think that you forgot to apply the -1 to hit (against shooting and melee) from shield wall on the oni's.
OPR is brilliant!!!!!!🎉
I discovered OPR recently and I'm very intrigued by it. I'd be very interested in learning more about it. I also already see a number of things that it has and does better than 40K. 🙂
Omg I absolutely love that game 10/10 content
Looks AWESOME!! I'm going to play this game!
@3:17 I feel personally attacked. Really cool review! Models are ace too.
Hahaha I think you and Bob would get along great Derek. He immediately reminded me of you!
I thought that law school dig seemd a little TOO on the nose... Great content as always
Give that Medic a battle field promotion!
Loved the batrep. Grimdark Future from One Page Rules is like 40k lite... no rules bloat, just casual gaming. Putting fun back in the hobby. Just my 2 cents.
OPR is great, particularly the full rulebook with optional rules to up the complexity of tactical options.
Such a great ruleset
Gonna have to download this system, you guys should play some deadzone or firefight from mantic games, pretty easy to follow without crazy 40k codex shenanigans
What WERE those black and yellow dice? They seemed cool!
been playing this with gundam high grade kits
Lol! Excellent stuff. Thanks. Loved this
Love OPR. All army lists free on site with list builder, all factions updated at same time. Do Age of Fantasy next.
would love to see a campaign with this stuff!
Video necromancy!
Have you tried the new 3.0 rules?
I've heard good things about their new Space Fleet game too.
Real basic question - most of the OPR army lists only show 1-person units. What are the rules and figure-limits or instructions for correctly forming squads in these cool-looking rules? (I note the fantasy OPR lists seem to have more 3- or 5-model units listed). Thanks in advance!
You may be looking at Firefight, which is the skirmish level game with smaller units
I use fantasy OPR prints for Kings of War
Looks like the main difference from 40K is unit activation and the removal of Strength vs. Toughness. At first glance it looks like other statistics have been removed, but they're effectively still there as special rules ("Tough" is 3 Wounds; Qua 4+ with "Carnivore" is like BS 4+, WS 3+, etc). I will give it a try, I've owned some Veer-Myn models for several years and not played with them. The fixed unit sizes could be a problem.
More!
More please!
This game save the hobby, far far better than the 2 GW Core. I dont put my 40k stuff on ebay only for play this game( a real Simply game, not like 40k with 4-5 books faqs, comprendium and campaign you need)
Super fun I’ve been playing age of fantasy
Great to see OPR being played. Don't sleep on the OPR GF Titan Lords, its pretty cool if your into Giant Robots.
I don't think it's been mentioned - it seems like you selected a spell for your psychic officer before battle, but you're supposed to have access to all 6 faction powers at all times
I love grimdark future, it is the glue that put my local gaming community back together
This is the way games should be.
that was allot of fun!
It's awesome!
Yes!
space gong fu!
UNA lives again!
Are you going to do other of the OPR games?
Please more OPR.
Those tokens where did you get them? EDIT: old board game tokens lol
