    Anyone who thinks it’s not worth $60 doesn’t know better what they are getting into. What a relief for this remake to get a re-release because it counters the overpriced market for the GameCube version. Making this masterpiece of a game become way more accessible than ever on a huge selling Nintendo console.

    The size and scope of the original was already comparable, if not greater than Color Splash and Origami King, both of which were $60 at launch, so I doubt someone playing for the first time would feel particularly shortchanged by the $60 price tag.

      @@miyamotomusashi6450 as do I. TTYD is one of my favorites as well, but for me, $60 is still too big of an ask when I can still re-experience this story and world without spending a dime.

    This is definitely a remake. Not only is there new UI, characters and changes in dialogue(Bowser saying: "Lunkhead" instead of Airhead") but they didn't add anything to the title. If it was a remaster, they probably put HD in the title like Luigi's Mansion.

      A remake would also improve on outdated and clunky mechanics of the original. Few remakes like Destroy All Humans actually go out of their way to gut out problems by replacing them with brand new mechanics and balancing the game around them. Mario RPG from what I understand didn't add enough improvements from the OG and it really showed for me.
      I enjoyed RPG for what it was but it still stunk like an SNES game and as someone who never played the OG, I didn't really enjoy it all that much apart from a few areas. I still prefer the OG Spiritual Successor of Superstar Saga on GBA over that remake. And I actually loved the Superstar Saga Remake apart from the remastered OST.

    This game hasn't been available for retail purchase for aeound 20 years now. The only ways to play TTYD before the remake comes out now is to have the GameCube version, which can be expensive as hell depending on whose selling it 2nd hand, or to emulate it.

      AAA has been $70 more and more frequently over the last few years

    • @TheGravityShifter
      @TheGravityShifter 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Things are $70 more often than before now so it's not really correct. Also, a lot of the high costs come from overinflated budgets than actual inflation. Lastly, it's a remake... it has a LOT to live up to in order to make that new game price worth it since you're essentially buying it again.
      As someone who never played TTYD before but have really been wanting to, $60 won't be that much of an issue for me. But I also never played Mario RPG before and I got it at $60 and I didn't like that one as much as I wanted to because while it had some new stuff and QoL improvements, it was still the exact same SNES game with the issues of one to boot. Remakes are the perfect opportunity to fix a lot of issues the OG had and RPG didn't do enough to iron them all out for sake of faithfulness.
      If TTYD takes a similar approach to the way Destroy All Humans 1 and 2 approached their remakes, $60 would be SO WORTH IT. Because DAH 1 and 2 not only gave us the same game, but it also changed so much to make the overall experience so much better. Totally reworked combat and mechanics, new abilities, new missions that were cut from the OG, newly recorded dialogue from the original main cast of actors mixed with old recorded dialogue from the OG, it was perfection. Both even added cosmetic customization for Crypto and added replayable missions and mission Challenges!

      @@TheGravityShifter New games have been steady around 50-70$ through the years, assuming you’re not buying a delux version or anything. Of course certain games are more expensive, but they have stayed around $50-$70 within the past 20 years, basically untouched by inflation. I mean, Zelda ocarina of time was selling at $79.99 on release and that was almost 30 years ago. If we had adjusted for inflation rate, the same $80 game would be $145 today. A $60 game would be around $100 today if inflation had touched them. All I’m saying is be thankful games were not affected by that rate of inflation because almost everything else was haha.

    • @TheGravityShifter
      @TheGravityShifter หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@adameverill9945 It doesn't matter the math when first off more and more games are becoming $70 as base AAA Standard in the US (not counting how expensive they are in other Countries). Especially when everything else around games are a lot more expensive now. This basically makes $60 games today more expensive than $60 games were before the Pandemic.
      I'm looking forward to the game but I won't pretend $60 isn't steep to some level for Remake Standards.

    • @TheGravityShifter
      @TheGravityShifter หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@adameverill9945 The math doesn't matter when everything else around it like food, rent, bills, etc. are a lot more expensive due to inflation. The $70 increase was to push for more profit due to all these years of AAA prices being the same. But today in a Post-Pandemic world where we're looking at Recession in the face? Now that you have to spend even more for essential stuff, that's less money left over for games, effectively making $60/$70 more expensive than $60/$70 before the Pandemic. So while the price hardly changed on its own, $60/$70 has become a lot more valuable.
      I'm very much looking forward to TTYD and I don't mind getting it full price since I never owned it originally anyway and I'd like to own a copy where my money will go to Nintendo instead of a 3rd Party Seller asking for an arm and a leg for an old GC copy. But I won't pretend $60 isn't asking a lot even for a Remake since it'll basically be the same game that'll most likely be faithful to a fault.

    TL:DR version probably
    It keeps you from spending a fortune on the original version in case you don't own it.
    Also unlike the classic version you will be able to play it on bigger LED screens without issue or adapters that by themself also cost a small fortune
    I mean honestly if you don't already own a GC or a GC compatible wii and the game you're in for quite a steep entrance fee with the game being worth $150-$300 and the console $20-$100 needing a memory card, controller and a GC to HDMI adapter with decent quality. At the point you're willing to pay all of that you might rather get a new switch and the game and pay roughly the same. For a hopefully even better experience (I mean sure wait for the reviews from people like Kappy or Arlo to confirm the quality but if they approve, you'll be better off on that end)

    • @xxProjectJxx

      Sure, but I don't think that people who don't own the original were ever in question, y'know? If you don't own TTYD, then, yeah. This is the most accessible way to play it. Of course it's worth the asking price.
      Is it worth it if you _do_ still have the original? That's the real question. And, really, the answer is going to be dependent on who you ask, but $60 is steep. We don't have enough detail on the new content to answer, IMO.

    In regards to the game quality being worth $60, i'd say that whether the game is a port or remake is irrelevant- The base game is substantial enough to be worth $60, even if it were just a regular port. If it costed $40 at the time- then it was worth 7.8 hours of minumum wage in 2004 ($5.15 an hour) Currently, in the 30 states with the lowest minimum wage, a $60 game is worth 8.3 hours ($7.25 an hour) Overall $60 games are only half an hour worth of extra time at work compared to 2004 games and this is in the States with the *LOWEST* minimum wage- mind. Perhaps it feels like a lot more though, because we can't guarantee that a parent, guardian or friend will buy the game for us outright- and everything else we need to buy was hit by inflation soooo much worse. Though for the later point- i'd argue that the modern price of games has nothing at all to do with this- it's literally just every other industry that's gotten unreasonably pricey.
    It's not the $60 games that got too expensive- It's the overall cost of living that's been getting too expensive, and the overall difficulty it takes to even find the $60 or 8 hours that don't need to be spent on something else that's an absolute necessity, and even when you do have that covered- the remaining is competing with a whole lot of other things you may be interested in buying.

    It's worth noting, that what qualifies as a "Remake" or a "Remaster" is a lot different now since Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Resident Evil games took "Remake" and used it in a way that wasn't just. "Build the game with brand new assets that we make from scratch." They did it by completely redesigning the levels and core game-play to approach the original story beats in a brand new way.
    IMO as much as I feel that Paper Mario TTYD Switch is ABSOLUTLEY worth the price- I would call it a Remaster, as there is a difference between a Lion King 2-pack DVD set with special features, games and an Easter egg hunt- and a completely brand new telling of Lion King with different actors, different script, different art style and a different way to go through a story. (For context, I freakin' loved those Disney 2-pack dvds. and I would *OBSESS* over those extra features. So this is absolutely not a dig at TTYD.)
    Idk. It feels like if we call a game a Remake just for having new assets, and cinematic tricks and maybe just a handful of new features and QoL updates- then there's not a whole lot that actually separates what a remake is from what a Remaster is.
    I deeply appreciate the work it takes to make brand new assets and it looks beautiful here, but if they are only there to be more atmospherically and cinematically appealing- then they are functionally playing the same role as the quick up-rezing or texture change that you'd get in any other Remaster- even if it is a vastly superior and more stunning way of doing it.
