- In today's episode of Unfiltered Stories, we have the privilege of hearing from Mari Neli as she generously shares her journey with us. Mari's story begins with being adopted into a family that placed overwhelming responsibilities on her young shoulders. Growing up on her adoptive family's farm, Mari faced the challenging expectations of laboring like an adult while still a child herself.
Join us as Mari openly shares the difficulties she endured, including neglect and a lack of proper nourishment, which profoundly impacted her formative years and wellbeing. At the tender age of 12, these hardships resulted in Mari being placed in a mental health facility. Mari's story sheds light on the vital importance of ensuring adopted children receive the love, care, support and protection they need to thrive. Her experiences serve as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of childhood adversity and the need for greater awareness and resources to support adoptees and their families. Mari's resilience and courage in sharing her story offer a beacon of hope to others who have faced similar challenges.

HOW IS THIS AN INSPIRING STORY?
As a mother.. I will and can't ever comprehend how anyone could hurt children and animals.
I'm disgusted and enraged
Please don’t compare human children to animals. That’s ridiculous
@@AmberColeman-gq1wnhow was she comparing animals to humans? It also wrong to hurt animals.

If you really love animals as you say advocate for them.
Be active.
My adoptive family was also very abusive. I was doing all of the cooking and cleaning in the house when I was in elementary school. I will never understand why people want babies to be born into this world unwanted and unloved.

How do people like this get approved to adopt children? I’m sorry this happened to you & your sisters.
Sometimes, there are so many kids available, they are practically given away. In my state, there are so many kids in the system that the county child services office puts signs out on the roadways asking people to take them in. Like they're giving away kittens or something.

Years ago, the process wasn't rigorous. As long as you did not have a criminal record and could provide housing and show some income, you were good to go.

oh please mant families work together each doing what they can, could have been far worse
I am so sorry that you went through this! Adopted children should be checked on at least once a year until the child is at least 16, so that this doesn't happen, and I expect it happens a LOT more than is known. How horrific and brutal her "parents" were!
Agreed. Every month the first year, then every six months, then every year.
Once a year is too less, frequent checks should be made and they should be asking teachers, doctor and nurses etc for feedback . Orphaned, adopted , fostered , disabled kids should be kept in check strictly
They don’t even check on children who are being knowingly abused.
lots more more brutal than that
@@bhvgcfx459 Really? That is so terrible.
I felt like I needed to be thankful for my adopted parents, so when they worked us on the farm from dawn to dusk as grown men, when we were treated less than their biological kids, when I was slapped across my face, when the woman lashed out at me because the man paid to much attention to me, I would tell myself at least I'm not hungry, at least in not being given drugs. I was so traumatized when I came there that I didn't understand that what they were doing was wrong to the point when people spoke out about how they treated us I would defend them. I carried this thought that I had to appreciate that I could be in a worse situation, even if they didn't love us.
My adopted father's brother saved me in my late teens, he seen how they were and came saying he needed to borrow me to help on his farm but when I loaded up and asked what we were doing he just said we are gonna go trail riding, it turned into a regular thing, every chance he had free he would come and get me and I'd get a break from the back breaking work, the only time they couldn't spare me was during harvest.
The day I turned 18 my uncle let me move in with him, got me a job, helped me get a car, would take me to dental appointment, would loan me his vehicle if mine broke down, I didn't know it at the time but I think he suspected what was going on because he made sure I felt safe in his home, I felt safe around a man for the first time in years, I needed someone and the universe provided that for me and I am still beyond grateful for him, it still took me years into adulthood before realizing I didn't owe them anything for feeding me and putting a roof over my head, I remember how they would threaten to send us back to foster care and many other things I could never imagine telling a child, It was freeing to be able to say they were terrible people and I owed them NOTHING, I'm now happy, married with two beautiful little girls, own my own home, I married into a kind and wonderful family (my biological family is dead) but i still struggle with depression and PTSD, my older brother didnt make it past 21 and took his own life, my younger struggles with drugs and mental issues but i try to be his safe place, he lives in an rv on my property currently, i think it affected him the most mentally because he was only two when he went to the farm and had no outside reference, he pushed back the most, my older brother would just run away, after multiple attempts they stopped even looking for him at the age of 17, he lived on the street for a little while. I'm thankful to have made it so far, even if I struggle with survivors guilt a bit, I miss my older brother, and wish he had made it
everyone on a farm works from dawn to dusk, sorry your life wasn't all luxury. children born into families are the same but they don't complain, sounds like you should write a book, poor you

I also was sexually, emotionally and physically abused by adoptive parents who I also worked for. I’m 61 and still dealing with the emotional baggage from my childhood. These people that think that children are so blessed by being adopted happens often, I’m sure, but definitely not always!

If a person is abusive to animals, they’re abusive towards children
My adoptive family was horrifically abusive too. They even hired people to kidnap me.
It’s much more common than people think. Adoption is inherently traumatic no matter what.
People need to do away with the notion that adoption is some amazing thing and adoptive parents should automatically be praised.
I am so sorry that you were treated like that you are right some people do believe that adoption is this selfless act when I certain cases it's not
Certain parents who give birth to their children abuse too. This adoptive stereotype is unfounded. The cases of adoptive children abused get more publicity. We have both birth and adoptive children and love them all equally!❤
@@italianmama7616 of course birth parents abuse their children as well, I never said they didn’t. What adoption stereotype is unfounded? That adoption is inherently traumatic? That’s absolutely not unfounded. Adoption *IS* inherently traumatic. It’s a proven fact and denying that fact only hurts adoptees and makes their lives even more traumatic.
Cases where adoptees are abused absolutely do not get more publicity than non-adoptees being abused. I don’t know where you’re getting that from. Adoptees almost never get justice for their abuse. Their abusers almost never face consequences.
And your last sentence about loving your birth children and adopted children equally literally just proves my point. That is the *bare minimum* you do as a parent. There is no reason for you to even make the distinction between your adopted and birth children except that you think you deserve praise or recognition for adopting a child. You don’t.
Loving your children equally is the bare minimum. I’m not going to congratulate you for doing so.
❤
@@sapphicalixI'm an adoptee too from 3 years old & believe me when I say that I went through way way more abuse by my mentally ill birth mother & her boyfriend.
Yes, adopted parents should be checked out more thoroughly & there should be surprise checks on a regular basis; but, not all birth parents are good people/parents & not all adopted parents are bad people.
This is horrible abuse.
I am Colombian and have worked with the adoption program from 2001 to 2012. Legislation on the matter has changed drastically since 1986 til today. I feel sad, heartbroken and very sorry that Maria Neli and her siblings went through such an awful experience. To loose one's birth family, no matter what circumstances caused the downfall, to end up being adopted by cruel individuals like these is unimaginable. 😢😢😢😢

Wow godbless this beautiful strong woman for surviving all this to be able to speak her life battles 🙏.
Let me ask this to anyone, once you get adopted no one ever checks up on you again? Bc that isnt right man. I am sorry this happened to you and your sisters 🙏. You are a very strong woman
She mentioned this was an illegal adoption….they were basically purchased as slaves. Child labor trafficking is still prevalent and scammy adoption centers are in on it.
When I was adopted, the cps caseworker had came only once and that was because my school had called them and reported concerns of me being beaten and punched in my face. I was actually trying to beg for help because I was being Sa by my adopted father and his biological sons. But somehow my adopted parents were able to convince them that they were wrong about the abuse. Later on they ended up adopting another family of 7 girls so I was now in a family of 15.
I remember one time when they had taken me to Chuck E. Cheese and they had left me alone and never came back to get me until the cops showed up to take me home. My “mom” claimed that she thought I was in the car when she left the restaurant. The sad part is that cps never even investigated the incident but they should have, it is now considered child abandonment and neglect.
Now I am happy and have no contact with them since 1999. I’m a mom of 5 young adult children and I Wii never forget what they did to me. And please don’t come at me, cause I’m never forgive them either.
@@Spooky_pookie that's so sad. I'm so sorry that happened to you. See that's why I asked bc it seems like kids get adopted and no one checks on them anymore. I hope things have changed since then. Have a great Christmas (or whatever if u celebrate) ❤️

Im halfway through this video & Im praying to God that somebody went to prison over this 💩 😡🤬🤯 And I wouldn’t wish prison on almost anyone! My husband & I adopted 2 sons, that were living, or temporarily sleeping, under a bridge with their birth mother. They were 15 mths & almost 4. We’re urban missionaries & we fed the homeless of downtown Houston 7 nights a week for 1 yr 10 mths. Anyway, it was 32 degrees that night & when we went to serve our precious homeless friends, we met the boys. They were dirty, sick & in clothes that were waaay too big for my oldest son, and girl clothes for the youngest. We took them home the first night we met them, and theyve been with us ever since. The adoption was final 2 1/2 yrs later. Our boys are now 14, and almost 17. We also have a 26 yr old daughter, and a 11 yr old son. We love our children EQUALLY! Theyre all 4 spoiled rotten, not financially because we’re definitely not rich in money, but we are rich SPIRITUALLY, mentally & emotionally! They’re spoiled with love, care & adoration. I cant imagine for a split second treating one of my boys less than our biological children 😩😢 They have enough trauma & emotional ups & downs as it is, due to their past…to think of someone adopting, or fostering children just to use them as laborers makes me feel nauseous. Its disgusting, and God dont like it one bit! Praise God that you’re a survivor & are able to share your story. I pray God blesses you with any and everything you can, and will, ever need!!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I am so sorry that your adopted parents were vile and evil people! You are amazing thank you for speaking up
It’s disgusting what adults can do to mess children’s minds up! I’m not from an adopted family but my own flesh and blood was messed up!!
Yes, mine too. I see people in this comment section that are saying that adoption is wrong and only adoptive parents do this stuff. And they use it as an excuse for pushing for abortion. Whereas I don't. Some people just shouldn't have kids. Some people can't have kids and should be able to because they would make such good parents. Sometimes, an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy happens, and the mother doesn't want the baby, but there are adoptive families that do you want that baby and will do the right thing. so yes, I am with you. My blood family was messed up, but I am so glad that I am alive. I was supposed to be aborted, and I'm so glad I wasn't. It's why I always say… When you see a pregnant woman, the one guarantee you can make is that her baby will suffer at some point in its lifetime.

GOD HAS A SPECIAL PLACE FOR EVIL SOULS
I used to think that too, but realised all the people that deserve a spot there will have a good time together because that’s where evil meets evil and they’d get along fine and work out ways to,have a good time.
I now like to think that they go to a place alone where every awful thing they ever did to their victims (humans and animals) is done to them repeatedly forever and ever and that they feel EVERY emotion 10x worse than their victims and finally that they never die, they just keep reliving whatever pain they caused.

Proverbs 28:9-14 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination. Whoso causeth the upright to go astray in an evil way, He shall fall himself into his own pit; But the perfect shall inherit good.
Psalms 66:18 If I regard iniquitie in my heart: the Lord will not heare me.
Isiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear.
(Iniquity is sins of the parents)
Adam was made in God's image. When Adam sinned he passed that sin to his children. Adam was in God's image. We are born in the image of Adam. We must recognize and pray for ourselves. Then pray for our children. Otherwise the children are made in the image of sin and born in sin. Their prayers will be an abomination and God will not hear them. He will not see them.
1 Peter 3:12: “For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.”
Isaiah 1:15 When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.
Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Proverbs 21:13 Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.
James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
These are just some. It is we who are wicked. Not God.
@GlowingInTheDark3 that attitude is exactly why God doesn't hear your children when they cry out to him. You are responsible for their suffering. Not God.

I was adopted by a white American family from the orphanage 2 weeks after I was born in Costa Rica. I tell anyone and everyone that my adoptive family was a blessing. This was January of 1972. They had two biological boys of their own, who of course were much older than me. They were already in elementary school. My parents have passed but I do tell people that I was ever so fortunate not to have been adopted by an abusive slave driving family. It's the luck of the straw for these kids. I had a lot of resentment for my own parents growing up because they treated us like slaves too. We were doing all of the housework, yardwork, and landscaping from the time I was around 3. My Dad beat animals too and would throw tvs and things and punch holes in walls when he was mad. We had mandatory spankings every night at 8pm sometimes with the belt depending on how bad we were. Had to stay at the table until you finish all of your food even if you sit there all night. My dad once pried my mouth open and poored beans in. I helped my cousins buck hay, do the irrigating, chores, etc everyday when I'd stay there in the summers. I honestly just thought a lot of this is normal farm kid child rearing minus the starving them and constant hatred.

Bless you. You are so incredibly brave and I’m so proud of you for raising your daughter and the commitment and challenges that it took.
For sharing your story…..thank you 🤍🤍🤍
Yep, this has happened a lot. People adopt children sometimes as legal slavery.
i'm so sorry you had to endure this, i pray you found happiness at some point.😢
happiness is always possible and she seems like a strong lady, i hope so too though
I hope after all this you know you never deserved to be treated that way. You and your siblings deserved SOO MUCH MORE!! You were a little girl, and should have been showed so much love and kindness!!
I hope you find deep solace and joy after experiencing such horror.
These adoptive parents should be in prison. Why didn't the other 5 children ever tell someone? 😕
They were manipulated with tactics of intimidation.
This just makes me sick to my stomach. My heart just breaks for you. No child should ever have to experience this.
Thank you for sharing such a powerful story that will definitely inspire others who know someone or have lived a similar experience/life. You are one Strong woman!
I grew up in foster homes...from the age of 1. In and out so many bc they tried reuniting us with our mom multiple times. Put there taken back. Over and over again. Then they tried adoption. By then i was older and it didnt work out. A lot of her story is similar to mine but different. I didnt do mans work, some good memories to be had, but awful times as well. Just knowing things could have been much worse. The psychological and emotional effects last a lifetime though.
Those natural born children of that evil couple are still alive. I wonder if they feel any guilt today.?
This is the saddest story I have ever heard. You are brave woman. You survived all these. Be strong. Heart felt
I’m so proud of you for speaking your story and the truth about how you were acting like your abusers. I’m so glad that you had that self awareness. Thanks for sharing your story ❤
I am so extremely sorry for all the pain you went through. I hope the process has changed significantly never to allow this again
Thanks. I found this inspirational
Im so sorry for what you and your siblings went through my grandmother after retirement from her Bank managers job she started fostering. She never let us treat them as anything less then family while in her home. And they were our foster aunties and uncles ( even if they were close to my own age at the time 5- 14) many kids were reunited with there natural parents many weren't but couldnt be adopted by my grandmother because her health started to turn left ( heart conditions) She adored all her kids and they all called her nana or memaw Shirley to this day she has kept up with many of those kids with her love they flourished many are married with children of their own and She is still nana or Memaw Shirley to their kids too. After over 20 years of not fostering her name is still excellent in the system from time to time they call but shes 20 years older now. Its because of her i would love to become a foster mother one day ❤. She always tried to keep siblings together when she could she loved them all for almost 10 years she was a foster mother . I made a promise will do the same i will love them for as long as they are with me and even after if they still need me. Just like my grandmother
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm very sad 😢 your Mom died and your Dad needed help for you and your brothers and sisters and had yaw adopted by people with NO heart. He probably never knew. I'm sorry you had to give your son for adoption. Hope he has a nice life and good parents. Hope all your brothers and sisters have nice lives. I 'm glad your husband helped you understand yourself. I pray you, your daughter and your husband are happy and have peace now.❤
I remember Bella Poarch’s story. It is similar to this poor lady’s story. Her only escape was getting into the military.
I had the most wonderful adopted parents, mom was an angel everybody in the neighborhood loved her and they never made any extinction between us and their biological children. We we al their kids and loved us all equally. In fact it's them my heart yearns for and not for the mom who gave birth to me.
Whenever I read positive adoption stories just makes mine worse because I was in an emotional abusive adoptive home and all I wished for was what you had
The fact that her sisters didn't help her or bothered to try to send help and warn them everything about those monster parents.
Sure. Let's ignore the slave-driving adoptive family and all their biological children who not only abused them for years but ALSO didn't alert the authorities or send help. Let's blame it all on the sisters who were abused, undocumented, and maybe didn't even make it on their own for lack of education and years of exploitation. Always blame the victims with some people.
Why adopt to then mistreat the child. Thars a special kind of cruel.
I am glad she respected her husband's love for her in not turning her in for cutting him and made herself change. She was acting out on things buried in her subconscious. The things she went through were swept under the rug and coming out in ways she didn't realize. She thought she was joking around cutting herself, but a part of her was serious until it turned for real trying to harm herself. I am glad she had the courage to face her past and try to be a better person in spite of it. I think she realized she finally had someone she could trust in her husband, and it helped her to calm down and face her issues.
I’m so sorry that this happened to you & your sisters ,I hope your life is a happy one now xxx

bro this is horrific, its hard to believe people this evil exist. Terrifying to think of all the vulnerable people out there, especially children and animals that those demons can pick on.
