I grew up in an era when bands were writing albums.....not singles......albums. I am such a huge fan of BAND-MAID because they have recorded more albums that I can put on and let play through without a skip than any band in decades, in fact almost half a century. I also absolutely love that they don't limit themselves musically, so many different styles of music not just on albums but how they do it in individual songs. Let's face it, music is all about the "feels", music inspires emotion and BAND-MAID gives me the full range of "feels". Like no other band in my lifetime.......I LOVE BAND-MAID!

@@Big_Al_63 They would have felt right at home on FM radio stations in the 1970's. Today they would not only be the greatest rock band out of Japan, but one of the easiest cases for a place in the Rock & Roll HOF. Oh, that's right... it's already happening.

Saiki and Miku's vocals have always meshed so well together. But to my ears, on this cd, the vocals of both these ladies are on a higher level. Also, Miku's guitar parts can be heard so much better, and you can hear how much she has improved as a guitarist. I can't wait for you to react to "The one". It is my favorite song on the cd.

Epic Narratives is very melody-oriented. Some of them, like Letters to You, are really beautiful and elaborate. But perhaps what attracts me the most in this song are the voices. Those harmonies... wow. The girls are singing at their best and it shows.

5:24 Nerd facts - The olfactory nerve projects to the medial temporal lobe, which is also where episodic memory is located. Olfactory function is a chemical sensation that allows people to detect and perceive odorant. And Episodic memory is a type of long-term memory that involves conscious recollection of previous experiences together with their context in terms of time, place, associated emotions, etc.

My favorite from Epic Narratives. It reminds me of my two favorites from Just Bring It: Don't You Tell Me and Secret My Lips. All fairly straight forward, well crafted midtempo rock songs. It is so nice how they construct complex patterns within the song, while maintaining the simplicity and straigthforwardness of rock and roll.

  • @frankandre4385

Miku's poetic and often multiple meaning lyrics are always distinctive...But it's nice to hear Saiki's more straightforward and easily accessible sentimental lyrics ! ❤️

Thanks as ever for your insights and enthusiasm. Incredible, beautiful song. Features one of my favourite-ever Saiki moments - that bit of grit in her voice in the second verse. And yet, it's in my bottom-third of tracks on Epic Narratives, just because this album is ridiculously, outrageously good.
I can't wait for you to hear The One!

I always get that feeling of Kanami's mentor Carlos Santana in so much of what She does. The honey like flow and the beautiful phrasing in her solos. She is truly the most creative young guitarist out there.

I must admit, from the first listen, this has been my favorite song from Epic Narratives. A beautiful melody is highlighted by Akane's marvelous tom work, Saiki's distinctive, emotive vocals, Kanami's ear worm riffs, Misa's thundering yet not overwhelming bass tones and Miku's flawless rhythm accents. And finally ...the hidden gorgeous harmonies. Thank you, Miss Picc-olo! A huge treat ! ❤️

Band-Maid trademark - we feel the song's meaning without knowing the lyrics. Wow. The Flappy Pigeon really has a great sharp grungy sound. I first really noticed it in a fancam video of Choose Me that was shot in front of Miku. Hearing her play it in relative isolation made it sound like a new song to me.

  • @philcalvino884

The major/minor tension immediately hit me: the nostalgia or longing for something, which line up with Saiki's lyrics. And then you add in the beautiful vocals, Akane's accents, MISA's searching lines, Kanami's solo, and other features, and you end up with a transcendent song.

  • @roqy
    @roqy 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

Kanami hits you in the head, Saiki and Miku hit you in the chest, Misa and Akane kick you in the gut. Resistance is futile. They will have their way with your emotions every time.

Thanks again for your reaction Miss Nitt Picc. I have to say you have way more will power than I do, once I got my copy of Epic Narratives I started listening to it immediately and it’s the only thing that has played in my car since. Now I love this song, it and Toi et Moi are my two favorites ( at least for now ) for different reasons. Like you I hope they make a video of this song and I can only imagine it would be beautiful. The melody evokes a nostalgic feel ( yes it’s not just you ) but Kanami is very emotive in her playing and she does things that are memorable in such a good way and add all the things that the entire band does is a recipe for some of the best music you will ever hear. Thanks again for the reaction your reactions are one of the things that I look forward to each week. Have a good week with the kiddos.

Just as, for example, Atarashii Gakko, an energetic dance group are not afraid to stand still in their dances, Band-Maid have never been afraid of moments of silence, and they've never been afraid of simple things (no matter how much they are woven into complex soundscapes). All great artists, I believe, strive to find the complex, the expression of human experience, in the simplest of forms. It's happening here. So, just as a scent, a taste, a breeze, so can a single note or chord can transport us into a complex state of reverie and nostalgia. When someone as gifted as Kanami and the other musicians (instrumental and vocal) in the band start to explore those realms, as they have suggested they will in this new chapter of their life as Band-Maid, I believe we are in for some music that will long outlast us all and bring joy to whatever is left of the world in future years.

You don't say things that are off-base too often, but I do think you're wrong when you say, "We're not here for my nostalgia." Of course we are! Every part of your perspective informs the analysis you do of these songs, and nostalgia is fundamentally formative, right? So bring on the nostalgia -- it's part of what makes you you, and therefore part of what makes your reactions so worth listening to!
