  • Does Run Walk Run help conserve energy? Like many things in life... it depends. Learn how the rate at which you use calories during a run depends on more than just run walk ratio. And ratio may not matter at all!

    Are high run/walk ratios worthless? Watch now: th-cam.com/video/DTDlpc48Ubo/w-d-xo.html

    That is very useful for ultras! 3/1 feels comfortable on long runs

      Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad you have a ratio that works well for you.

    Appreciating this numerical, experimental approach. It puts some numbers to questions we had only theoretical suggestions for, until now. Thank you!
    I might even try something similar myself (when fitness allows) - it'd be interesting to see how consistent the results are. And obviously the more data points the better an idea one will get of factors such as degree of variability etc...

      Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it. Yes, more data is better! Good luck with your own experimentation.

    I am thinking of doing a run/ walk experiment this summer too. Love your work.

      Thank you, Dan! I’m glad you liked the video. I might repeat my experiment in the summer and I’m also thinking about testing different walk times vs ratio. We’ll see. Thanks again for watching the video!

      Nice. I'm planning to lock in walk time like you, test HR and pace over a set course over a few weeks.

      That sounds like an interesting experiment. I'd enjoy learning about your results.

    Very interesting. How did you split between running and walking. I imagine that makes a difference. E g. 2000m running, 1250m walking, 1750m running for a 3:1 ratio... Vs some different split.

    • @TheAgelessRunner
      @TheAgelessRunner  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Jens... I always use time. So for a 3:1 ratio, you might use 60 sec run, 20 sec walk. I'm currently using a 4:1 ratio of 2 minute run, 30 seconds walk. Of course, you can use distance, but that's a bit more challenging to regulate. If you're not using time, here is a quick start method video: th-cam.com/video/M8KT_js3RTY/w-d-xo.html.
      And here is my run walk run playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLC8vL4GhTV1hc23K2kxG7FCfmnIxisck9.html

      Thanks, Stephen, for the feedback. This video was definitely more towards my data-loving side! I appreciate you watching it.
