The first park you went to in Copenhagen is Ørstedparken. The lake in this park is actually a remnant of the moat than surrounded the medieval part of Copenhagen up to the time where they started to dismantle the fortifications surrounding Copenhagen. This started in the mid 1850's and was completed in the mid to late 1880s. The lake in Botanic Garden is also a remnant of that moat as is the lake in Tivoli Gardens and Østre Anlæg behind the national arts museum.
i wish i knew this sooner!! i think i saw parts of the old moat in all the places you mentioned - the historical knowledge would’ve helped me appreciate the lakes more 🤓
