my first solo trip to copenhagen | exploring the city & spending time alone

i don't think i knew what i was signing myself up for when i spontaneously booked tickets to copenhagen without a plan or a companion...but i'm so glad i did!!
copenhagen was one of the most charming cities i visited on exchange and i truly think i was able to admire it for all that it was because i went alone and got to choose exactly how to spend my time there. just after landing back in paris from my mallorca trip, i made use of the short period of time in the city by trying new foods, exploring new neighbourhoods, and enjoying the scenery of the seine and eiffel tower which never gets old. also tried the tiktok famous restaurant, pink mamma, but unfortunately was quite disappointed.
the next day i dashed out of the middle of my class to catch my flight to copenhagen (one of many rushed journeys in an attempt to leave WITH the plane and not get left behind), and was immediately met with the gorgeous and simple beauty of the city. my first day here was full of sunshine, nature, amazing weather, and lots of pondering as i walked around the river, various parks, streets filled with shops, and nyhavn, picking up yummy food local to denmark along the way.
this was only the beginning of my solo travels to copenhagen. the next few vlogs will show the rest! i hope you enjoy and if you ever get the chance or an itch to go on a solo trip, i would be the first to say do it, no matter how near or far the journey - spending time alone is one of the most curiosity-inducing & healing things you can do 💖

The first park you went to in Copenhagen is Ørstedparken. The lake in this park is actually a remnant of the moat than surrounded the medieval part of Copenhagen up to the time where they started to dismantle the fortifications surrounding Copenhagen. This started in the mid 1850's and was completed in the mid to late 1880s.
The lake in Botanic Garden is also a remnant of that moat as is the lake in Tivoli Gardens and Østre Anlæg behind the national arts museum.

i wish i knew this sooner!! i think i saw parts of the old moat in all the places you mentioned - the historical knowledge would’ve helped me appreciate the lakes more 🤓
