5:40 the best way to deal with the conversion is not thinking in terms of "multiplying vs dividing". Just think about for which the number is bigger or smaller. 1km is 1000 meters by definition. So the number associated to "km" is always the smaller one. You just have to "make it smaller" by 3 digits. It's so easy that it almost doesn't look like a division.
@@Dutchrebuild Well, in my mind there is not a direct correlation between the word "kilo" and having to use division to convert to it. In fact, if kilo means 1000, it would subconsciously suggest that I have to multiply. Another misleading train of thought: "A kilometer is bigger, mutiplication makes things bigger".
jut to say that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way you pronounce "kilometers" - the way the word is pronounced in the UK has more to do with cadence and accent more than anything. the way you pronounced Kilometers with the emphasis on the *o* is by far the most common way of saying it in southern england.
I had a good friend of mine fall for this nonsense, so I started to look into it more--in hopes to save him from it, I guess. Then I discovered that there have been psychological studies done that there is a direct relationship between narcissistic personality traits and conspiracy theories. But, wait, there's been other psychological studies done that say there is no such relationship. But after three decades at the felt, in casino cardrooms, as a poker player, I don't have much respect for the mental-health industry anyway. There has not been one mental health professional I have met, that I couldn't empty their pockets. In using my skills as a card player, I have noticed a common theme with people that are attracted to conspiracy theories: they're suckers. They're self entitled people that can't handle the fact that shit-happens. So they're unhappy that life didn't pan-out exactly the way they wanted, so it's some insidious cabal working against them. It doesn't take a graduate degree to reckon this. There is no reasoning with ego and self-entitlement, and that is the sole attraction for conspiracy theories
The real question: Is the Earth an Equilateral Triangle, Isosceles Triangle, Scalene Triangle, Acute-Angled Triangle, Right-Angled Triangle, or an Obtuse-Angled Triangle?
Just a quick comment about the pronunciation of the word 'kilometer' (although it's already looking like a battle lost). When we mention devices (barometer, thermometer, speedometer etc.) the emphasis is on the second syllable. On the other hand, for unites of measurement (millimeter, centimeter, kilometer..), the first syllable is emphasised. Having said that, I don't think there is anything particularly illegal about saying kiLOmeter, judging by the number of people saying it that way.

Really? But if kilo means 1000, then a kilometer means 1000 meter. I can't make it any simpler.
@@AlexGeek Or how about.... I have some *2m* long objects at home, but I don't think I have one that is *2000km* long.
@@Dutchrebuild I think you meant redundant.
jut to say that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way you pronounce "kilometers" - the way the word is pronounced in the UK has more to do with cadence and accent more than anything. the way you pronounced Kilometers with the emphasis on the *o* is by far the most common way of saying it in southern england.
It's the same in Canada.
JP insulting shoes? Shoes are at least useful!
The reason there are so few 1-star reviews is because the vast majority of anyone buying this book would be a flat earther themselves.
Now we need the grifters to ask for free space flights for a "Final Final Experiment"
I bet the amount of 1 star ratings has multiplied by now
Quite harsh on shoes yes.
YUP! No less a personage than the MIGHTY Eric himself has said "If I divide 1 m by 1,000 I get a km, NO I get a mm."

That Flat Earth FAQ cover looks a lot like a football pitch. Perfect for moving the goal posts on.
Earth is not flat, its a Triangle !!!! 😡
The real question: Is the Earth an Equilateral Triangle, Isosceles Triangle, Scalene Triangle, Acute-Angled Triangle, Right-Angled Triangle, or an Obtuse-Angled Triangle?
You ascribe to Toblerone Theory?
@@billyhills9933 Great theory.
@@billyhills9933I like that theory but live in fear of the day when the Earth gets gobbled up by a tobleronosaurus.
Actually, it's a pipe.

I heartily recommend 3 ply firmament...much softer for those of us with round rather than flat posteriors! 😂😅
It is pretty disgusting to find out Eric DoucheNozzle wrote a kids' book .. the idea of him anywhere near children is creepy.
I love the fact that this guy has dedicated and sacrificed his life to fight the fight against flat earthers.
If a flat earther has not been to space, they have NOT done their research
I would have liked to have seen some of the 5-star reviews, for contrast. Some of them are probably also hilarious.
SciManDan mentions a few at the end.
I should really be sleeping, but new SciManDan video!
I did consider purchasing one of these books, for a laugh, but remembered that I would then be contributing to the authors profits.
Just a thought, how do those popup "Review Rater" extensions rate these FLERF-affirming "Customer Reviews"?!
05:35 Translator here. Both pronunciations of the word are 100% correct.
Oakley showed how stupid he was by saying the same thing... he couldn't understand why you would divide by 1000 to get meter to kilometer.
I challenge flat earthers to explain the tides on a flat world. I'll wait..
I challenge flat Earthers to take my laser level to the lake

@GordonKahl-ly5qy that's a good one!
@@comfortablynumb9342 Yep, the globe Earth is an easily observable phenomena.
Unfortunately when FLAT earthers are offered tools to prove it they refuse every time.

@@Diponty That's one excuse, but why would they go to the effort of thinking up excuses when they can just ignore the challenge?
Australian here, everyone here pronounces 'kilometres' the way you said it initially so don't stress over that one!
"Flat Earth - FAQ Eric Dubay" is my favorite book title. 😏
" The truth behind the great NASA conspiracy " 😂
I wish we could hear reviews from Dubay's yoga and Wing Chun students.
I personally would never leave any review on any of Dubay's books. 😂😂😂
Twist: in 200 years Dubay is praised as a brilliant satirist.
and yes it is Kill -Om -Iters
I think I should create a Flat-Earth version of the Nautical Almanac and sell it to flat-earth believing sailors.
Wouldn't it be a real "final" experiment for those? 🤔
No Dan, your pronunciation of Kilometres is absolutely fine in British English. The supposedly corrected pronunciation is for American and other variants. Honestly, as a linguist, I'd argue that either is correct, but the most common British pronunciation is indeed how Dan pronounces it.
I've got used to it, but when I was younger I stressed the first and third syllables. For reference, I grew up in Cheshire, and if you asked my former classmates I'd expect about half of each pronunciation.
I am becoming increasingly convinced Eric Dubay is a government plant to discredit legitimate conspiracies.
Hmmm....interesting a conspiracy theory that almost makes sense!
Disinformation agents hired by the CIA to confuse spies and other foreign governments, they were huge in the 80s and 90s. You know, like the Bob Lazar types.
There is some logic to that idea, however the present flat earth movement has been around for about 200 years. It started as a religious anti science movement, and to some degree, still is.
They would have to be pulling it off under the nose of, or with the cooperation of, the Thai authorities.
If that was the case he’s hiding his INTELLIGENCE very well!😂
You wouldn't expect many one-star reviews. The large majority of those who would give a one-star review are not likely to buy the book, or even read it if it was gifted to them.
Amazon doesn't peddle the books. Most sellers are independent
Somewhere I actually have a flat earth book signed by the author with a pretty funny inscription.
I got it out of a bookstore dumpster!
Eric Dushbag's books are an interesting snapshot in time - from back before the flat Earth conspiracy theory was ended by the Final Experiment.
Kilometers is like Potato, Tomato and Vase. People have multiple ways of saying them, just pick which one you like. I use the one you said was "wrong".
This gonna be good. Another fantastic Saturday Session.
I pronounce KMs the same as you.
Dan I am now intrigued about the 5* reviews 😂
The first one has a great cover, I give you that.
