    i think the biggest thing for beginners of music production is to experiment with everything and get use to all the effects tools sounds plugins and etc that you have at your disposal understand what does what and finding out why and when to use those tools and stuff. its all about practice and boosting that learning curve so that when youre ready to really discover your sound and make some legit music youll have all the tools and knowledge necessary for a solid foundation of music production.

    About that chord where you raised a note to one that isn't in the scale, it's called a dominant chord (or 7 chord). And it's not the only time you can use those non-diatonic notes. You can make any minor third into a major third and vice versa, which will effectively turn any chord into a dominant chord. Dominants lead to a major or minor chord that is 4 scale degrees up. So you have these chords here
    Ebm, B, Bbm, Bb7 (dominant) (no root note)
    But because of that dominant, you can actually move it to something starting on an Eb major because of that dominant chord. Here's an example
    Eb, Ab, Eb, Bb7
    You can make any chord you want into a dominant chord. And that will act as a pivot point to a major or minor chord that is a fourth above your dominant. So that second chord progression could be something like this
    Eb, Ab7, Dbm, Db
    Mixing and matching these dominant chord pivots at different times is how you come up with unique progressions that sound good and nobody is doing.

    For not so experienced producers I don't think structure should be the main focus as you don't really even have an understanding of how it will sound structured yet. It's still good to keep in the back of the mind. If you're new, I believe it's better to focus on getting an understanding of good sounds and getting good ears.

    • @mordulvaga
      @mordulvaga 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      he mentioned that but the thing is that you’ll never sound perfect if you arrange wrong. Using the wrong sounds is less problematic considering that you can sometimes get away with using “bad” sounds and have people not notice

    If you want to "use more sounds" you should look into orchestration. It's a "classical" technique like arranging, but the point of it is what kind of timbres work together, and which ones doesn't. Also, you might not be able to continuously layer 2 sounds, but you can change between them. Have them respond to each others melodies (as heard in DubStep a lot) will give you tons of extra detail and movement to your track.
    Also also, a quick and dirty way to introduce more colour to your track is to use the 7ths and sometimes 9ths. But, that requires a bit of music theory to work. So, for an interesting switch-up with minimal theory required; putting the 3rd or 5th of the chord (the middle one or the top one) in the bass will do the trick more often than not.

    • @visionsstudios8042
      @visionsstudios8042 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but sometimes there are nice sounds that you can’t just recreate. I’ve had a sound in my head that is like a wahpph sound and it continues and lowers in pitch and kind of makes it sound trippy to me but literally no plugin I have has it. 😂

    • @gustavbw
      @gustavbw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@visionsstudios8042 Sounds to me like a low-pass+pitch shift automation on a distorted reese bass. Also. A lot of times, don't look for a "preset" that got what you want. Look for the one that is closest, and then sound design it so it matches whats in your head :)

Like no bro like let’s be honest here, he’s right and wrong at different times a bit, but both at the same time too bcuz well one thing I’ll say and this is ofc imo is that people didn’t make rules for them to be followed every and all the time… THEYRE MEANT TO BROKEN HERE AND THERE!.. but just not for all of em like here’s an example of him sharing his opinion on something he claimed “YOU HAVE TO DO” (it’s at 3:14), like no that’s a personal preference thing but at the end of the day it’s on your part and totally up to you if u want to follow other peoples “rules” or do something different, go your own route / way with things…. Does anyone feel me on that or nahh??.. 🤨🧐🤷🏻

    Bro so I started making music and nothing ever sounded right because it just didn't feel like my own stuff cuz I was using other people's beats and other producers. so I put in the time and effort to learn how to structure a beat and learn good drum patterns and good melodies and honestly I seen a lot of comments on this saying why people should just stop producing and stop taking the time to learn, which I completely disagree with. people just expect you to be a professional when s*** takes time you just got to spend the time and effort and realize that this kind of thing takes sacrifices. I'm in the studio 24/7 working on beats and sometimes I might not come out with something but most the time I put something together that I'm happy with and something that sounds like me and I even teach people how to make their own beats. so everybody who's saying just stop and don't take the time and that you're wasting your time, the one thing I got to say to you is let them be as beginners and watch them grow and watch your ass fail.

    You highlighted the hats red and then made them stutter in about an eighth of a second and you made it do it at the exact spot you wanted it to. How did you do that part? And your use of the paintbrush tool was incredible. Explain the difference between that and the regular paste tool verses using the pencil for drawing every thing. I am only assuming you are a math major as well because you were dropping between 1/6 and 1/3 on those drop down lists like you intrinsically understood the fraction of the high hats. Any time we go outside of 1 eighth or 1/16th I'm lost 😄

    PRO TIP load your parametric eq of choice in slot 10 and avoid the limited abilities of the eq suggested in the video while still taking into account the gems he dropped about the importance of the order of your plugin chain
