As they were planning to invade Germany through Poland and use autobahns, Christie-suspension made it possible to run high speeds ,and only put the tracks on when in Germany. As all materiel positioned at the border was intended only for attack, and not for defense, they had little use when Hitler decided to attack first, even though he knew that it was too early. Stalin had waited in vane for the Operation Sealion to start to start his own attack, and the timing got wrong for him. All that can be found from a speech Hitler made after the Operation Barbarossa had started, and from the archives of the Soviet Union.
