    10:56 The second photo on the right is often incorrectly labeled as from the Battle of Kursk.
    However the picture depict T-34/85s (which was developped in response to the clear lack of firepower of the T-34/76 against the new German tanks at Kursk), which saw combat for the first time in january-february 1944.
    The more credible caption I found for this pictures so far (there is also an othe pratically identical taken a few seconds before) is a that it is a Soviet assault during the Odessa offensive in April 1944.

    Spectacular video. Whatever you pay this editor, it's not enough. If they're a volunteer, send them cat pictures. I think they'll be happy with that. A delicious little sprinkle of memes to make the learning fun, great job.
    Also gotta love that cute caption about the T-34... despite its armour, it was vulnerable to the Ferdinand. Yeah, a lot of things in WW2 were vulnerable to the 88mm cannon. Infantry, soft vehicles, armoured vehicles, aircraft, buildings, bunkers, pillboxes...
    And then the tidbit about stuffing your MG (Spandau anyone?) down the main gun to fire through the armour. With the very German innovation of building a mount from a spent casing so as to not damage the rifling. Very efficient, Hans.

    20:55 yeah... people often forgot that the Marder was introduced in mid early 1942 where T34s and infantry attacks are proven to be the main challenge, along with the inability to soak up heavy Soviet artillery fire, its cheap price advantage can't compare to the German need of a heavy tank.

    The germans wasted LOTS of vehicles and soldiers due to Hitlers constant demand to attack as the only battle plan. As of 1942 they should have been defending and slowly retreating. That way they could have caused 10 times the losses to the allies while having small losses themselves.
    To illustrate my point: The battle described in the above video where Tigers and Elefants were pointlessly attacking against stationary ISU-152s. The russians had no losses while the germans lost a number of expensive vehicles.

    • @alexwschan185
      @alexwschan185 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but since the Soviets are taking such high casualties from these attacks, it seems like they would be dying anytime soon to those generals at the time.

    The video would be much better served without the martial music in the background, a unnecessary distraction from the softly-spoken information. It's even weirder to score a video about a German WWII assault gun with the U.S. Marine Corps Hymn (first music played). The info is great, but the cheesy music makes it seem less professional and serious. Please keep making the videos, but drop the music as it detracts from the seriousness of your project.

    Thanks for the video- nice combat record! you could have compared it to other anti tank vehicles for context. Likewise the availability ( Panther lost quite a few during Kursk)....the conclusion could be as a quick conversion to use the Tiger (P) chassis, this short production run vehicle provided limited mobility and great protection to best Anti tank gun in WW2....I would say a successful conversion, but that is generally not what the fanboy myth says.

    Too big, too slow, no range, unreliable and too expensive. But NO WAY would I want to be in a T34 trying to fight a unit of these monsters. All the downsides matter not jot when my shells are just bouncing off at 600 meters and I'm just WAITING for the moment when they hit me and punch a shell though the front armour, through me and straight out the back of the tank.
