  • Skyline Trail | Complete Hiking Guide | Cape Breton Highlands National Park | Nova Scotia | Canada
Perhaps the most famous trail in all of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, the Skyline Trail is not to be missed. Located along the ridgeline of a series of mountains to one side, and the majestic Atlantic ocean to the other, the ending of this trail is where the efforts pay off.
Although this trail may be longer (either 6.2 km (4 miles) if you choose the out and back route, or 8.2 km (5.1 miles) if you choose the loop), the majority is quite flat and suitable for most members of the family. At the end, a series of stairs take you down, easily being the most challenging part of the hike.
We hiked this trail in September of 2020. As you can see, the wind can be quite the force, so it's best to prepare for windy conditions. In addition to the great views, you also have the chance to see moose along the way, as they are a common sight.
In addition to the moose, you can also see an active scientific study which looks at the effects the moose have on the area. Large sections of the trail have been sectioned off, keeping moose out. You'll be able to see just how much these creates eat of the landscape!

Such a lovely trail! I wish we got to spend more time here during our last trip to the Cabot trail. Next time I want to enjoy more of the trails in the highland park - especially skyline trail! It looks absolutely breathtaking! Such stunning views of the water. Amazing video as always Josh! Thanks for sharing! 😊

Beautifully edited sir, oh and awesome hike too! :) What an awesome local guide! I bet you learned a lot! That road looks like a perfect place for a bike ride. Great vlog sir, will have to add it to the list! - Shane

Better in a parking lot than on the roadside and that was a real nice wide trail to follow, with some nice colour in the trees. Nice that you did get to see a bit of sun at the end of the day, cheers Alan

So I see where Nova Scotia is on the map and where Highlands National Park is. So this is a totally different part of the province you live in obviously. This is a really beautiful hike by the way. I love how they built all these cool stairs and overlooks at the end of the trail! This was really cool Josh and thank you for sharing it.

Love Cape Breton, it’s my favourite part of Nova Scotia. Almost hit a moose on the Cabot trail last summer, gotta be careful they can come out of nowhere sometimes!

This is easily one of your beat videos. The set up in the beginning was great, informative, and beautiful shots. We are taking a 14 Day Road Trip to Arizona, but for the Giant Taco Drop 😂. This trail is something our family can do, just another 2 hours. How many videos until the Destination Earth Branding will show up?

That's a good question. Quite a few actually! I want to say in the PEI series, which would have been the next summer. So maybe just after this series? When are you going to AZ? Akane and are going there in a month!

    Questions from a Freelance Cartographer:
    1) Shouldn't this be considered a part 2 to this: th-cam.com/video/ioJx1AL6odE/w-d-xo.html
2/ Do you use a GPS unit to trace your hiking routes through the All Trails Application?

Oh yes, this is definitely not the first time I have hiked or filmed in this location. They are probably close to 10 years apart though -- which is wild! Regarding part 2, sometimes I do track my hikes with an app called Relive, but a lot of the time I forget to turn it on, lol.
