Indeed. Even dying and in pain, Puu still seeks to save others and that is truly who Yusuke really is. Seeing it from outside, Yusuke realizes that something like that deserves to be protected and cherished; ergo, he is worth protecting and deserves love. He is rescuing his own sense of self-worth.
The scene with Yusuke and Puu always bring a tear to my eye just so emotional really glad you enjoy the scene as well and I agree top 10 the music really hits so well Yusuke's VA really out did himself on this episode!
Part 4 of Yusuke screaming in a cave. Amazing. This is why Hiei is Kurama's most relentless hype man. Hiei was downright gleeful and he couldn't wait to explain Kurama's backstory. A real Yoko Kurama fanboy ready to explain why he's the best like all us commenters. Truly the whole team (Hiei specifically) is so funny and cute to me in this episode. You're so right about Hiei being aggroed until he hears Kurama. And the way he glares at his fingers when he loses rock-paper-scissors I die every time. His maximum edgy is balanced out how funny it is next to people just being normal around him (kind of like Azula imo)
Great emotional scene plus Kurama being amazingly cool. Funny rock/paper/scissors gag. Cool, emotional, funny, they even acknowledged Yusuke and Keiko's relationship, what else do you need? Amazing episode.
Trust, it’s SO great seeing people watch a staple of your life so many years later, the janken scene, hiei and kurama’s love hate relationship this whole tournament, and yusuke’s trial, she completely felt it
Been waiting for this one, it's probably my favorite episode in the entire series. Props for resisting any waterworks at the end, that scene's a gut punch but in the most gratifying way.
This episode and the first always make me tear up on every rewatch. Part of why I absolutely love this show. It has so much heart. Thanks for the reactions!
11:00 Hiei accuses Kurama of being more interested in the age-reversal than he is in victory. Instead of denying it, Kurama just gives him a sassy side eye like he'd been caught.
I usually watch sub but this is one of those anime's that I really prefer the english dub, it's just so good. Justin Cook really brings justice to Yusuke's character, can't imagine it any other way.
Crazy how that rock paper scissors scene literally happened in Dragonball Z on babidi's spaceship when they were deciding who would fight between Gohan, Goku, & Vegeta. Yu Yu Hakusho influenced so much
Yo, Yu Yu hakusho is so perfectly written like the pacing the character development the emotional side I don’t understand how this enemy hasn’t been revised like this is better than hunter X hunter. I really do hope that they revise his anime and I’m still alive.
This is great about Yu Yu Hakusho is that first episode imo is actually really good. But then it becomes a bit more silly next several episodes. But lays foundation for these later episodes when it does become serious to be all that much better.
I would agree with this episode being a top 10 episode. This episode has a lot going on. It was emotional, but it also has Yoko Kurama, which is always awesome. I saw you wince when he brought that death plant out. That thing is downright terrifying. Yoko was going to get the information he needed through that interrogation. I figured you were going to like Yoko when he showed up. He is a scary yet captivating character. You know a character makes an impression when you want to see more of them from just the little bit you do see of them. You'll have to keep watching to see if he comes back. I won't post any spoilers in case you read my comment. Yusuke passing his trial was pretty emotional at the end. Puu trying to help him by bringing him water was a moment that is quite touching. What caused him to pass the test was him being determined to save Puu from the falling boulder. Yusuke no longer was focused on his test. He was just trying to save Puu. Him tapping into his emotions may have been what caused him to absorb the spirit wave orb. He is strongest when he taps into his emotions, but he tends to wall his emotions off. When he does tap into his emotions, his power skyrockets, as seen in the past bouts. It also sort of goes back to the theme of him being willing to throw away/sacrifice his life for others or not put much value on his own life. He did it twice with Keiko in throwing his egg into the fire to save her, and again, when he fought Suzaku in tapping into his life energy in order to save Keiko. He also did that with Kurama with the mirror when asking to take his life instead of Kurama's. Even when Botan offered him an opportunity to come back to life at the beginning, he turned it down and had to be convinced that people missed him before changing his mind. Now you have him not being worried about Puu's well being over his own. Which he kind would be worried about himself since they are connected, but I don't think that thought crossed his mind in saving Puu.That is a theme to keep an eye on. This arc just keeps building up. There is still quite a bit more to go. You are going to like what is coming up.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the best at that imo, even Yoki gets his moment to shine, but Yuyu Hakusho definitely helped to lay the foundations of fully fleshed out Shonen ensembles.
Remember how kuwabara scored super high on Genkai's spirit awareness test? It was a Janken game. Kuwabara was going to win against Hiei and Kurama, easy😊
This is one of my favorite episodes and it just continues to get better and more emotional after this. No matter how many times I watch it, these moments hit the exact same as the first time I saw them. Maybe even more since I’m older now.
11:32-11:38 Kurama: Why do you antagonize him like that? You know he can kill you right? Kuwabara: At this point, it's a game. If he gives in, I win...and he knows that.
Out of everything in Yu Yu Hakusho, this scene with Yusuke and Puu in the cave has to be my favorite. When I was watching the dark tournament for the first time, I binged through most of it at night, watching each episode back to back. Because of this, Yusuke’s training seemed - at least for me - to last way longer. Hearing his bloody screams over and over again alone in the night, it definitely sticks with you that’s for sure. So, when Yusuke and Puu finally have this moment, it feels like a beautiful release from the grueling struggle up to that point. Moreover, the superb voice acting and music (struggle of sadness) really enhance the scene, immersing me like no scene in Shonen has before. Even while watching your reaction Melon I *still* got chills! I’m glad from the looks of it that you enjoyed the scene as much as me :) Happy watching & thx for the reactions!
@AniMelon this episode shows us that we too can be at our lowest points in our existence. The real question is this: do we stay where we are accept the pain and die, or do we rise, move forward and endure regardless of the pain? Its our choice in the end
This whole episode is on fire & shows how wickedly cool Yoko Kurama is while showing how heart wrenching Yusuke's trial is in order to compete with Togoro later on.
No matter how old I get, I STILL tear up when Puu tries to get water for Yusuke.
People imagine their cute pets doing the same thing
Yea I told you puu (and that ear water) is a tear jerker!!!🥲🥲🥹🤝💐🏆thanks queen here for it all over and over again 🎉
The scene with Yusuke and Puu always bring a tear to my eye just so emotional really glad you enjoy the scene as well and I agree top 10 the music really hits so well Yusuke's VA really out did himself on this episode!
Justin Cook is a really good voice actor for Yusuke Urameshi. Yusuke Urameshi is one of my favorite anime protagonist in anime
SCREW THIS TEST I'M GETTING US OUT OF HERE! CHILLS EVERY SINGLE TIME! The OST definitely helps but Justin Cook absolutely NAILED this scene!
Part 4 of Yusuke screaming in a cave. Amazing.

This show truly is a gem! I feel bad for new gen that chooses not to check out the classics that paved the way for their modern animes.
Great emotional scene plus Kurama being amazingly cool. Funny rock/paper/scissors gag.
Cool, emotional, funny, they even acknowledged Yusuke and Keiko's relationship, what else do you need? Amazing episode.
Neat call back detail that Kuwabara wins rock paper scissors because he has high spiritual awareness like during Genkai's tests.
00:48 Singing the opening in every episode is a must for this series.
I've been waiting 4 episodes for this moment. Puu is the G O.A.T!
Yoko has returned😭
"Screw this test! I'm getting us out of here!"
That scene will stick with me forever.
I know right... easily the of the best moments in this show
I always die laughing when she asks "Who is this love god?!!?" LOL
This made me love Arctic Foxes since 25 years ago.
The white, fluffy friends that like to dive face-first into snow are top-tier canids.
Twenty years later and this is still an emotional scene for me.
Yuyu Hakusho
One of the greatest anime of all times, right behind dragon ball
Melon be simping for yoko :D
Something her and Koto share.
Completely understandable
This is the power of reactions, I have watched this episode many times but this felt like the first time. 😭
Trust, it’s SO great seeing people watch a staple of your life so many years later, the janken scene, hiei and kurama’s love hate relationship this whole tournament, and yusuke’s trial, she completely felt it
One of the GOATed episodes for sure 🔥
Pu trying to save Yusuke and Yusuke saving Pu is one of my favorite scene ngl.
I've watched yu yu hakusho countless times and it still gets me this is a very emotional show with awesome action
Been waiting for this one, it's probably my favorite episode in the entire series. Props for resisting any waterworks at the end, that scene's a gut punch but in the most gratifying way.

literally their friendship is HILAIREOUS
Kurama HATES being caught.
@@BrandonPhilipps-r9b Lol, understandable!

Dbz Influenced the most out of any anime tbh
Yo, Yu Yu hakusho is so perfectly written like the pacing the character development the emotional side I don’t understand how this enemy hasn’t been revised like this is better than hunter X hunter. I really do hope that they revise his anime and I’m still alive.
I don't think there's a better combination of high quality hand-drawn animated facial expressions along with Justin Cook's voice powering them.
I love how badass Karma is in his demon form, and Yusuke, that was fire no lie.
This is great about Yu Yu Hakusho is that first episode imo is actually really good. But then it becomes a bit more silly next several episodes. But lays foundation for these later episodes when it does become serious to be all that much better.
things are about to get super ruff soon
That intro theme slaps hard right 🤣
I would agree with this episode being a top 10 episode. This episode has a lot going on. It was emotional, but it also has Yoko Kurama, which is always awesome.

That Poo scene with the water is forever ingrained in my core memory. It always gets me 😢
Puu not 💩 damn why did you have to spell it like that now it's ingrained in my memory
♫ "Tan tan tan tan tan
Tan tan tan tan tan" ♫
Lol
When Puu drop the water. I felt that 😢
I don't know other anime to values all the characters like Yuyu Hakusho! Yusuke, Hiei, Kurama and Kuwabara! So hard choice my favorite!
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the best at that imo, even Yoki gets his moment to shine, but Yuyu Hakusho definitely helped to lay the foundations of fully fleshed out Shonen ensembles.
My Hero Academia 😅
@Jekv-877bruh brotherhood is manga accurate. The first FMA is basically like 70% filler
Mine goes
Yusuke
Kuwabara
Hiei
Kurama.
They all great characters but that's how I rank them.
@Jekv-877 oh okay aggot i see what you doing
I CRY EVERY FCKING TIME!!! ive seen this 10000 times!!
Been waiting forever for you to start Yu Yu gurl!
Thank you for these uploads, very great your watching a classic anime
Feels episode for sure cried like a baby 😊 the dark tournament gets real from here on out get ready Melon
Rock, paper, scissors is like Japan's favorite game. I see it in a lot of anime shows.
I never noticed before but that is the voice actor that voiced ed in fma
Fantastic episode yusuke coming out strong 🎉
0:48 😂❤❤❤❤❤ i love this
I like Yu Yu Hakusho anime show! My older brother he watched Yu Yu Hakusho anime show! ❤🎉😊
Yes! Finally this episode has come!
Kuwabara is funny guy! 😂😅😂😅
@AniMelon to be fair, Hiei never cheated. He just does not like being cheated or lied to. That is why he wanted the re-do. He wanted an honest moment
He also just sees faster than Kuwabara can. If Hiei said another draw was slower, then it likely was.
True gamer moment, just learned the game existed, called it stupid and simple and is already competitive about it.
I'm pretty sure she was saying Kurabara was cheating for going slightly slower.
This episode still tugs at the heart with Puu
Remember how kuwabara scored super high on Genkai's spirit awareness test? It was a Janken game. Kuwabara was going to win against Hiei and Kurama, easy😊
I was wrong about which episode this was. This is my favorite and I also think it’s the best episode.
Yu Yu starts as a super natural investigation drama and truns into a shoen. The original hunter X hunter.
This is one of my favorite episodes and it just continues to get better and more emotional after this. No matter how many times I watch it, these moments hit the exact same as the first time I saw them. Maybe even more since I’m older now.
I remember Yu Yu Hakusho anime show! ❤🎉😊
11:32-11:38
Kurama: Why do you antagonize him like that? You know he can kill you right?
Kuwabara: At this point, it's a game. If he gives in, I win...and he knows that.
Hearing that in their voice is hilarious
This is still one of my favorite episodes
Same!! SPIRIT GUN!!! 👉🏾✨️✨️✨️
Love this episode
Time for Kuwabara to show his skills.
Yea, this is why YuYu is a top tier anime
Just watch, the episodes get even better 😭

What a phenomenal episode

Soooooo… you’ve made it to my favorite episode of the series 🎉
Top 10? This is definitely the best episode so far at least. One of my favorite moments in anime. Idk that moment with Puu hits me unusually hard.
Dang......I decided to eat onions and ghost peppers just as puu found yusuke *sniffles*
This whole episode is on fire & shows how wickedly cool Yoko Kurama is while showing how heart wrenching Yusuke's trial is in order to compete with Togoro later on.
It's amazing how well paced this show is at this point. So many memorable scenes can be packed into a single episode without it feeling rushed.
I like Yusuke and Kuwabara and Hiei and Botan and Keiko and Kurama and Genkai too! ❤🎉😊
I really like Kurama's fox demon form .
Gouki's shit talk of Kurama is funny. What we gonna go on date lol
I tell people all the time you gotta use rock your 1st time 🤜✋️✌️
Fun Fact: Yoko Kurama is the inspiration to Naruto's demon fox which is also named Kurama
Puu is best boy 100%
Makes me think when did they stop spamming the middle finger salute on anime
my eyes always seem to sweat on this episode....stupid onions 😢
I know. Who on Earth thought cutting onions was a good idea while I'm watching my favorite anime?
Animators never fixed that animation error where the screen gets all blurry in this episode
Yea I agree this is a top 10 episode, but there are a lot of contenders in the second half of the show.
Ep.47 HYPE!!!
Yu Yu Hakusho is funny anime show! 😂😅😂😅
@Animelon is as down bad for Yoko as I am for Botan lol Fortunately, my crush has more screen time.
Puu is the single best addition to this show they ever made. Real MVP. Most Valuable Puu.
I have rewatched Yusuke and Puu scene so many times it still gets to me.. so touching
2:01
Yup
I think the most epic moments in anime are when the hero digs deep not to save the world, but just one person (ex. S1E19 Demon Slayer)
Kurama reminds me more of inuyasha or his brother
Yusuke was going through it man but he found the will to survive and I respect that one of the best MC
This episode gets me every time I watch it 🥲
Kurama remains me of InuYasha
Yaaay! Thanks melon 🍉
Hello! ❤❤❤
Melon fox kink unlocked
妖狐蔵馬かっけ~
Not too many animes can compare to YUYu.
I toldya, Kurama is best foxboy.
Looking back on Yusuke's scene though, it's way sadder than I remember!
Yoko kurama is gonna be a rip this guy a part and it's gonna be amazing
Yooo just in time ❤ thank you ❤
He comes back later in the tournament and wrecks more
Lest go
FINALLY! THIS EPISODE! Yusuke finishing his training under Genkai🔥 🤌🏾😤
