This is a trip - I had one of these when I was very young and I barely remember it but seeing it again brought the memories of messing around with Hangman and the Draw program flooding back to me. We had a Tandy 1000 back in the day with a Dot Matrix printer loud enough to wake the dead.

That's true, I really like HOME music. Great thing is that some of his music is royalty free, and on the channel where that music is offered I found other cool music like the one in this vid

Our first family computer! I remember playing hangman, making up fake contacts for the address book, and writing my first short stories. I also had my parents buy Letter Munchers because we had it in school. I miss you, Tandy!

I think, that Deskmate 3 was better than Windows 3.0.... and if Windows didn't became so popular in that time, maybe everyone use Deskmate 10 today)

This GUI is chaotic.
Still better than what was usual at that time. Just think of the overloaded websites with lots of blinking content and stuff.
Was it Y2K ready? I see some dates in mm-dd-yyyy format, and even it manages to calculate the Yom Kippur date for the year 2018. Dunno if it's correct, but it's quite interesting though.

I used this on an INTertan 286 pc . 12.5 mhz
I would play "Wheel of Fortune", "Jeopardy" and use "Print Shop" with the loud printer! Fun!

I always had Tree view set as my default in Deskmate. I don't know why but it made navigating easier for me.
I used this a little bit. But all the applications on it had other DOS alternatives, which were much better and wider usage. It was like toy.
Had this bad boy on my Packard Bell 286 PC! Amazing that such a full featured operating system would run so well back then. I couldn't have even dreamed of running Windows 3.0 on the same machine.
This really looked nice, but OS/2 was the true badass (I got a video on that as well!)
@@FlyTechVideos I only ever tried OS/2 in the mid ninties. We never used Deskmate except as a novelty and to justify the trackball mouse my grandfather had purchased with it. I was pretty young and would use the mouse to draw and play Hangman. I'm pretty sure we ended up using Deskmate, also, because grandpa lived in Radio Shacks and they would have pushed the Tandy software.
Windows 3.0 could run on a 286 with 640k RAM, CGA monitor and no mouse. I know because I did it. So don’t you tell me that it can’t be done 😠

MS-DOS version 3.1 or higher
you see? you see?? you thought I was lying about it but there it is in black and white. your packard bell 286 would’ve ran it fine with no problems. in fact the version that I had came on 320k 5.25” disks so don’t you try to tell me that it wouldn’t because you didn’t have a 3.5” floppy drive yet 😤

@@FlyTechVideos WINMDL is an important system process that loads some drivers on your disk (in old windows versions).It is normally unnoticeable, but its settings can be changed with the WIN.MDL file. This file is hidden, so you should make this file visible with a setup disk.

I did this so long ago, I have no recollection on the installation process. I got my image from Winworldpc (iirc)

This was out on Tandy 1000 machines WAY before Windows 3. Tandy quit making computers and just sold them. Their last ditch was the Sensation 486 line. Those had a shell called WinMate which made 3.1 look like crap. (not hard to do)
