    Watching these videos always puts me at ease. We are starting CM 1st grade with my first born (of 4) this fall and I love how relaxed and excited I feel about it. These videos could not have come at a better time for me. Thank you!

    This came at the perfect timing! Thankyou so much, Sonya! This is our first year starting at the beginning, with 4 children grades 1,3,5, and 7. We are thrilled to find a curriculum that uses the Bible as a guide! God bless you!

    I would love to hear your plan for a 9th grader going into the high school years.

      @SimplyCharlotteMason  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With our family-style curriculum, a 9th grader will be following wherever the family is at in the history and Enrichment subjects. That just leaves a few subjects that need to be done individually at a 9th grade level. We have a full list of recommendations for those subjects here: simplycharlottemason.com/planning/curriculum-guide/individual-graded-subjects/

    Thank you for this. My husband gives me alot of free reign in our homeschool, but he's a little confused as to why we're not studying American history yet when he knows we were in Gen. And and ancient Egypt in the fall. Hopefully showing him this video will help him understand that I DO have a plan and that we WILL get to America, and specifically Kansas history.

    Hi Sonya~
    I want to make my order for this schoolyear! Unfortunately, I either need someone's help over the "phone"; or, if you are willing, a step-by-step video of how to order for a complete year (or term)? I'm not sure I can do it without one or the other.
    Much gratitude,

    My oldest is 5, so we have not started formal lessons yet. But she is followed by a 3 year old and 5 month old. I was curious to see if I start her with genesis at 1st grade and then 2 years later I'm saying the next child in, do I place them in history where my daughter is? Cycle back to genesis later?

    • @SimplyCharlotteMason
      @SimplyCharlotteMason  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly! Your younger ones can join the history cycle where your oldest is when they are old enough to begin formal schooling. Once you finish Modern Times, you'll repeat the cycle and your younger children will join in for Genesis then.

    I'm loving the idea of this. But what if your student is starting in 9th grade, and therefore doesn't have 6 years to play with?

    • @SimplyCharlotteMason
      @SimplyCharlotteMason  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Holly! We believe one of the goals of education is not to cram as much as you can into a specified time but to bring students into a relationship with the feast laid before them. It will be important that if your student is an American high school student, they complete both Early Modern Times and Modern Times. These 2 guides each provide 1/2 credit towards American and World history as well as 1/3 credit towards Bible. You can schedule the sequence however you prefer (starting with whichever guide and moving forward) provided they complete those 2 guides in high school.

    I'm considering starting the 6 year history cycle but my oldest is going to be in 11th grade and needs World History.. Would I just start with EM and MT then start the 3rd year with Gen... ? My boys will be in 5, 9 and 11th next year.

    • @SimplyCharlotteMason
      @SimplyCharlotteMason  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a great question, Kimberly, you can certainly start where is needed right now for your oldest and use that as a family for all of your children. I highly recommend reading through this blog of ours as a supplement to this video which explains the 6 year history cycle in a written form for you to see visually and how to use it with multiple children. It explains how you can do as you are already doing to map out when each child would then go through which resource: simplycharlottemason.com/blog/using-the-6-year-history-cycle/ please let me know if you have additional specific questions I can help answer.

    I really like how this is laid out, but we are in Canada and need to include Canadian history and geography. Do you have any recommendations for whether or how much of the series would work for us? Would we just need to supplement with something for the last 2 cycles?

    • @SimplyCharlotteMason
      @SimplyCharlotteMason  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Carly! We encourage Canadian families to omit the US history portions of our Early Modern Times and Modern Times history guides and in its place, add Canadian history. Canadian geography is covered in Visits to North America (scheduled in Early Modern Times).

    • @SimplyCharlotteMason
      @SimplyCharlotteMason  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you might want to start with Matthew through Acts & Ancient Rome or Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation & Epistles in 8th so that you'll hit Early Modern and Modern Times in high school.

      @SimplyCharlotteMason  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, You can start at any point in the 6 year history cycle. It would be recommended that you proceed in chronological order from where you start and keep in mind that students often need credits from the Early Modern and Modern guides in high school. Depending on the readings completed and the quality of narrations your seventh grader is completing, you may be able to give them high school credit in middle school as the book lists for the guides are divided for grades 7-9 and 10-12.
      This link provides more information on why there is a six year history cycle and where to start: simplycharlottemason.com/planning/curriculum-guide/scm-curriculum-faq/

    I don’t understand why the cycle repeats itself? Are you not covering everything as you go through it and don’t move on until the subject is complete? For many of the examples you had, you just repeated what was already learned previously, that doesn’t make sense to me? Could someone help me understand why you wouldn’t either do something else or choose a higher level coursework if the child really wanted that deeper dive into history specifically?

    • @SimplyCharlotteMason
      @SimplyCharlotteMason  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Mindy,
      Most CM homeschools study history on either a 4 or 6 year cycle. For example, you might study the Middle Ages in 3rd grade and 9th grade. While the time period is the same, the books assigned are at a higher level in 9th grade and any narrations would be of a higher quality. Our history guides are set up to provide lesson plans for grades 1-12. There is a family read aloud and then students are assigned individual books based on their grade level. You can see an overview of our curriculum at:
