    As the most of the capitals, Kyiv is not cheap as other ukrainian cities to visit. It has a many overpriced tourist places such as that restaurant. Even 30$ for a hostel per night it is pretty expensive for Kyiv. Usually a whole studio flat costs 20-25$ on airbnb. With a european lowcosters such as Ryanair and Wizzair (for example, Kharkiv-London flight started from 10 euros) the trip could be really cheap. I suggest you next time to visit Lviv and Odessa, Carpathian mountains, Black Sea, Dnepr river, etc, etc.
    As for the bills in restaurants, I must say as ukrainian, it's a tourist prіce. I'm sure you can find a better borsch and "chicken kiev" cheaper an tastier, even in Kyiv.
    And it looks like you had never taste a true ukrainian cuisine... NOT in that hipster's places like you have visited ;)
    And I must add, it's really sad that americans doesn't know anything about what happened in Ukraine in winter of 2014 and after that.
    I suggest you at least to see "Winter on fire" movie on Netflix. th-cam.com/video/RibAQHeDia8/w-d-xo.html
    You always welcome in Ukraine! Come back any time, it so many places to visit in Ukraine ;)

      I agree. I was in Kyiv three days ago and if you not careful and very selective it can be expensive, catering for the tourist and the new rich and its all relative depending on where you come from, but for a foreigner if you make a conscious decision to do it cheaply, it can be done very cheaply. Had a massive dump of snow so that limited a bit getting around, but I loved the city, people were great and definitely be back. Agree Uber is the way to go or the public transport which I found very efficient, especially the Metro.

    • @barman_ua
      @barman_ua 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Bobskiboy85 For a foreigner, the city transport could be tricky and uncomfrottable. But the prices is unbeatable - ut to 0,30€ for a city bus or a trolley. But in Kharkiv is even cheaper - 0,16€ for a Metro, 0,22-0.30€ for a bus ticket, 0,10€ for a trolley. Cup of good Espresso - 0,50€. Breakfast - 2-5€. Dinner (not in a hipster's place) - 3-8€. Desert 1-2€. Chocolate (100g) - 0,70€. Payment by card (if available) is mostly profitable due of good VISA/Mastercard currency exchange rate.
      And if you live in apartment and you like to cook: 1 kilo of chicken filet - 3,00-3,90€. Beef - from 4€/kg filet. Good cheese - from 5€. Milk - from 0,60€/liter. Bread - 0,50€/500g. Sparkling water: 0,30€/1liter. Very cheap vegetables, mostly organic. We don't overpay for "organic" food, - we dont have to, because the soil is so good in Ukraine: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernozem
      Language sometimes could be a problem, especially with elder ukrainians. But youngsters know at least a basic English.
      People are mostly friendly. But as in any country, you always could face with some degenerates - well, it's life. Feel free to ask for a help or assistance. Find a friend from a locals who shows you a real Ukraine, and come back again. The Ukraine can surprise you, for sure! ;)

    I lived in KYIV for two years the summer is fantastic but winter starts second week of October lasts UNTIL middle APRIL......IF YOU'RE LUCKY. I moved to ODECA last October coz I'd had enough of minus days and snow the previous year? What a DIFFERENCE! It was still like spring in ODECA until last week of November!!!! There were a few days minus in December a few in January and as I write this on 27th Feb 2019.......we had 3 days minus 7c concurrently! That's the coldest it's got! I went to see my friends in KYIV on 10th February to stay for 5 days and there was ice rain in the day which Stang my face and snow at night. My friends said some areas had been snowed in since third week of December previous year........soooooo I decided to come back to ODECA after three days the cold was so bad! It was 11c warmer in ODECA upon my arrival. ODECA has only had 8 days snow all winter and never more than a morning here or an afternoon there. And it melts quickly coz of it's location and everything keeps MOVING. My advice is KYIV is ok to visit May until September after that DONT

    You could go to the Tower of Sophia's Cathedral. It is just 60 grn. It is used as an observation deck, the views from there are amazing and the Tower itself is interesting too
