I am an American who has been living in Luxembourg for the last 6 years now. It’s nice to see people come here and experience it since it’s often not on anyones radar. Just want to add that you said the main language is Luxembourgish - however there are 3 “national” languages : Luxembourgish, French & German. Naturally, Luxembourgish is spoken widely - but I would counter that French is more prevalent (though that depends highly on what part of Luxembourg you live in). English is widely spoken, but largely just in the capitol, which is where most expats live. I live in a small border town called Grevenmacher - on the German border. German is the main language here, followed closely by Luxembourgish and then Portuguese. Expats make up just under half of the population of the country - but in the capitol, we are largely the majority. Also, don’t be deceived by its size - Luxembourg is the birthplace of the EU. It’s big in history, both recent and ancient. Great video 👍
Actually luxembourg has only one national language which is luxembourgish. French and german (and luxembourgish) are defined as administrative languages.
@@BobbySpencer-BBDGTL as a luxembourger i wish you good luck. Anybody who is not a native french speaker is most welcome to become luxembourger! So a bit of info on the WWI and WWII monument, it's actually the gold statue of the woman at the top. It was a WWI monument and was hidden/lost during the German occupation. It was hidden to avoid the Germans from stealing it, but the person who stole it died and it was lost for many years. She was found in 1980 when they were doing building work and she was put back on her pedestal. She represents Luxembourgish freedom.
The stone read: stone in honor of Goethe, which was erected on November 3, 1935 by the Luxembourg student association. A bronze image of the "Goethe head" is attached to the front of the monument. The following words of the poet are engraved on the back: "Here is so much grandeur combined with grace, so much seriousness combined with loveliness, that one would wish that Poussin had used his wonderful talent in such rooms."
Btw Gab, you often explained your viewers abt the SchengenZone. Schengen is a small city in Luxemburg where they signed the schengen contracts.its bordertown of 3 countries:Luxemburg France Germany
I visited Luxembourg and stayed overnight as part of a European tour when I was 18. Since I don’t remember much about it, I am glad that you are taking me & your other viewers on a virtual tour there now.
The Monument of Remembrance, also known as Gëlle Fra, was opened in 1923 as a memorial dedicated to all the citizens who volunteered during World War I. Situated in Constitution Square, it stands as a 21 meter-tall obelisk, and features a bronze statue of the Greek goddess of victory, Nike, dramatically holding out a wreath. Two other figures at the foot of the obelisk represent the soldiers of Luxembourg; one is dead, and the other is mourning his compatriot. This statue strongly conveys the sense of sadness and loss felt by the people of Luxembourg during the war, whilst still representing the freedom which rises up through the misery and pain. It is an enthralling and thought-provoking monument to visit whilst in the city. The Battle of Imjin river was battle in Korea. It is dedicated to the thousands of Luxembourgers who volunteered for service in the armed forces of the Allied Powers during both World Wars and the Korean War.

At 22:31 of the video, there is the Britannia Pub. It’s owned by an English man and many British ex pats meet up there In Luxembourg. I think there is more foreigners in Luxembourg than the natives.
The percentage of foreigners was about 47 percent for the country in 2021. Luxembourg-City is another matter with 70 percent (of 125.000) and more than 140 nationalities. There are, in total, eleven counties/communities in Luxembourg with more foreigners than natives.
Nice walk around the city. Another half hour’s walk toward the airport would have taken you near the American Battle of the Bulge cemetery in Hamm where about 5,100 are buried, including General Patton. Luxembourg got invaded twice in the war-May 1940 and December 1944 and paid the price.

Hey! Another small country lies in the center of Vilnius, Lithuania. It’s name is Uzupis. Founded in the 1990’s. Much to see in the old town of Vilnius, where many historical films are made.
I have great memories of Luxembourg. Grew up close to the boarder on the German side and frequently went to Luxembourg with my parents, e. g. to buy coffee, cigarettes and petrol (cheaper there). Always enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the trilinguality (Luxembourgish, French, German), which gives the country a very international vibe. Luxembourg city is a bit more francophone than the rest of the country. Enjoy your stay in Europe!!
Great video. I went to Luxembourg back in the 80s with my family and I remember it made a big impression on me too. It's a shame you couldn't get inside the battlements and other fortifications as they are extensive and a lot of fun to explore. The bit you saw was just a tiny part, as I recall.
My grandfather and son went to Lucembourg on a camping trip a couple of years ago. They had a great time. When you have time visit some of the old countryside castles and surrounding nature. It doesn't get more "old Europe" than that. It's like you are walking through some medieval movie.

Beautiful clean little country, the HQ of a few major Global corporations such as Amazon are there. Many people work there and commute back to Belgium/Germany/France due to the high cost of living in the Duchy. Along with many EU institutions and European colleges you'll find English is spoken by almost everyone... Great video Gabriel as always, I’d prefer though if you could also show the hotels, rooms, breakfast, meals etc., you are having in each country you visit. Keep it up mate!
Wow. First you didn't show the inside of the church; then you couldn't get into the Bock Casemates; and then you didn't show any of the castle... That's really disappointing... I guess I'll look it up somewhere else lol. Still an interesting place though..
I was even considering moving there from Eastern Europe. There were many opportunities to get a job there in institutions of EU. Visitied it a few times, loved the national mix there and size of the country. However i didn t like the weather and missed some coast line:) . You can t have it all. They used to have the cheapest petrol in Europe for a long time. Surprised and not surprised that it looks like a ghost city :(
I remember years ago driving along a stretch of road that formed the border between Belgium and Luxembourg, forest on the Belgian side and petrol station after petrol station on the Luxembourg side. Alcohol and tobacco were cheaper there too.
Firstly, you're great and inspiring. There's alot of talk of inflation these days - prices going up. Have you noticed this when booking hotels recently?
I have been looking for where my last name comes from for over 40 years and just recently finally found that Luxembourg is where it is. I found a musem with my name in it and an intersection. Never seen it anywhere else. Thought it was German forever. Can't wait to visit there. I lived in Spain for 3 years and traveled all around there and Germany when I was young.
By the way, in your discussion of small countries you didn't mention Liechtenstein, which comes perilously close to being an absolute monarchy with one of the wealthiest royal families in Europe - a scary place when you dig beneath the surface, despite its locations between Switzerland and Austria. You also don't mention Tuvalu and Nauru, which are both less than half the size of San Marino.
Hey Gabriel, I have not been to Luxemburg but will put it on my list. About that church door being locked, you probably didn't know the secret word you had to whisper into the tiny microphone on the handle. Lol
Hahahah he is in the city centre wherever he went he was still basically in the centre where they have preserved very well the castle look it's amazing but he went on a dead day hahah....but this is only one part there is also very modern buildings and other parts and a lot of nature and lakes

Enjoyed the tour even though I’ve been here over 40 years nice 👍
You should go check out the small towns in Luxembourg
Excellent work.. I watched the salt mine video from Poland last night.
Thanks, glad to hear it.
Alcohol and tobacco were cheaper there too.
stunning city!!
Firstly, you're great and inspiring. There's alot of talk of inflation these days - prices going up. Have you noticed this when booking hotels recently?
Hello greetings amigo beautiful country
I have been looking for where my last name comes from for over 40 years and just recently finally found that Luxembourg is where it is. I found a musem with my name in it and an intersection. Never seen it anywhere else. Thought it was German forever. Can't wait to visit there. I lived in Spain for 3 years and traveled all around there and Germany when I was young.
Very cool.
Lol
Really really nice video.....lots of love😍😍😍😍
You should visit the American cemetery where Patton is buried.
So this country seems to be one big castle after all :")
Hahahah he is in the city centre wherever he went he was still basically in the centre where they have preserved very well the castle look it's amazing but he went on a dead day hahah....but this is only one part there is also very modern buildings and other parts and a lot of nature and lakes
Great choice of beer!
There's another small country in Europe called Lichtenstein you might not know of
Yep, I might have passed through it while driving or at least came very close a few years ago: th-cam.com/video/r0fMJwrLG6w/w-d-xo.html
