Very beautiful trench lighter got a new life - Restoration ASMR

In this asmr video I will show the restoration of a very old miniature women's lighter DIY. This beautiful vintage lighter came to me non-working and in very poor condition. Its surface is covered with dirt, the metal is oxidized and partly covered with rust. Due to the fact that the body of this antique lighter is made of bronze and brass, it has survived to this day and has not completely rotted in the ground. Once upon a time, such lighters were made to order by craftsmen and are very often unique and exist in only one copy. This lighter is very tiny and delicate, fits perfectly in a small women's purse. I found several such examples on the Internet. The fashion for such lighters was during World War I, around 1900. Therefore, it can be assumed that our women's lighter is more than 100 years old.
It is very good that the construction of this antique lighter remained intact and there are no broken parts. This greatly facilitated the process of full restoration. The main task was to carefully clean all surfaces, repair the mechanism, replace the rotten spring and filling (wool, wick) and polish all the parts of the lighter using several methods. At the end, collect all the parts and check the serviceability. The restoration was completed successfully and our beautiful women's lighter is working and looks perfect.

@Kirito109 I think it's real, I've watched a few of his videos and I didn't feel that any were fake.
Usually the fake ones have lots of mud and rusty plastic, one problem with rusty plastic is plastic doesn't rust.
I did have some doubts that it would be so restorable. But what a result. Gorgeous outcome. I really like the way you left so much of the original material. Watching from North Carolina

If the lighter is predominantly brass, where did the encrustation of iron oxide come from?
Hi! The lighter has steel parts and they rust. Also, brass oxidizes over time and has this color
@@TheRestorer - so did you find it like that, and not pre-rust it = committing fraud with it, due to the amount of fraudsters on TH-cam I am suspicious of things being “restored” that have that amount of rust on them ~ making them look faked ☹️

@TheRestorer thanks for the lesson. Nicely done! Keep in mind I grew up using wd40...huge fan! I've been learning a lot about restoration for some time. Here's a helpful tip for you: yes vinegar and baking soda can remove rust along with wd40...however depending on the metal vinegar can eat right through the metal! I ruined a project...really upsetting but the owner knew it was a possibility and surprisingly not upset.
Let me introduce you to an amazing product superior to wd40! Never thought I'd say that! Evaporust and Metal Rescue...not only is it safe on skin and the environment (it's neutral and can be filtered for multiple uses!!) But it removes the loose rust and hardens the metal to help prevent future rust! I absolutely love the stuff! You still knock off as much loose rust with a wire brush. Then soak the metal item in the solution (I use a plastic or glass container with a lid) then wash it off with Palmolive degreasing dish soap. The metal will have turned grey or black from the process but it comes off with light sanding.
