      Yes!! They totally were! They’re dark with yellow bands like that when they’re tiny babies! J kept saying “are they lizards? Snakes? Lizards?” I was like, “YES! Lizards!” Lol.
      Side note: we want to have lunch with y’all when we’re visiting St. Augustine from Texas in 3 weeks! 😬

    Nice. I usually go to Black Point Wildlife Drive on Merritt Island NWR near Cape Canaveral. The seasons should be very similar. August is one of the slowest months with mostly gators and blue herons like this drive. January should be insanely busy with lots of variety of ducks, eagles, hawks, maybe some owls. I could not tell but I think I saw an anhinga at one point and a cormorant at another, but they should be much thicker in the winter with the influx of migratory birds. They all love these refuges. If you see a really big bird it might be a sandhill crane as they are in the Orlando area year round. Very often those areas also have black vultures and turkey vultures. Lots to see and you really aught to check again between Christmas and Valentines day. Thanks again for finding a new area that I can check when I am down there. If you are ever in Missouri check out Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area, near Columbia, MO. It is a wetlands restoration area run by the state of Missouri. Best wishes.
