@@helenkennedydesignsI have noticed that some (as you do) twist the stitch when mounting and some do not. I will be using this CO for 2X2 rib at the beginning of a🧣🙏
@@ilonarosenason2475 Hello! You are right, some twist and some do not, either is fine as long as you are consistent during the cast on! You can make this 2X2 rib by rearranging the stitches! I must do a video!
I Just join it and then use the yarn tail to disguise the join, any other joining techniques tend to make this join more obvious! I'll be releasing a video next week on using this cast on for 2x2 rib and I show how I disguise the join in that one..
That’s a very different way of casting on to the way I use (which is the only one I know). However, because knitting top-down socks is a current favourite knitting project, I will try this when I start my next pair. Thank you.
No, sadly that doesn't work. You need to cast on for 1x1 then rearrange the stitches as you work, think of groups of 4 sts, k1, cross two stitches over so you get k1, p1, then you should have purl left....does that make sense?. I've jut made a video on it. I have to edit it but I'll reply to you when its out!
@@helenkennedydesigns Thanks for the rapid reply. I do understand your description and I’ve viewed other TH-cam clips that detail the steps. It’s a bit fidgety, but I plan to do it.
You can remove it if you want to, remember to have an extra stitch at the end, and if you need your round to start K1,P1, once you have your two stitches cast on, start the cast on with a k1(instead of a P1) as the slip know stitch will be lost, causing a shift in pattern at the start of the round, does that make sense?
@@helenkennedydesigns Yes that makes sense. I'm going to give this a shot on the second hat I've ever maid. I just finished my first magic loop hat. It was shorter than I needed it to be and I didn't do any ribbing on it. So this looks like perfect thing I need to make a stretchy rib so the hat won't curl. My main concern is making the slip knot invisible. If I'm understanding it correctly if I needed 102 stitches I'd cast on 102 stitches not including the slip knot. It wouldn't need an extra stitch if I was already planning on removing the slip knot. When you joined the round did you just knit the first stitch cause it was the slip knot? I just want the pattern to look as symmetrical as a spiral can. So trying to figure out how you hid the start.
@@Bobbakerfield Congrats on your first hat! Yes if you treat the slip knot like it doesn't exist then it should all be good. Hope it works out and you like the cast on!
Hi Hannah. I'm sorry I don't pick, but this cast on uses the same basic movements as a knit and purl stitch, just that you insert the needle between stitches rather than through the loop so in theory you should be able to work this cast in using your usual knitting style. As for 2X2 you cast on in exactly the same way (1X1) but then rearrange the stitches so you get 2X2. So work a knit stitch, next two stitches swap places so instead of being p1, k1, you cross them over to get k1, p1, work those two stitches, next stitch should be a purl...so then you have k2, p2....etc hope that makes sense...try it out probably makes more sense if you actually do it!
Wow we are just so lucky to learn new methods of knitting .
Thank you so much.
I will use this method when I knit socks.
you're welcome! hope you enjoy using this technique.
I live this! Thank you!
you are so welcome!
Thanks 🙏
you're welcome! Hope it was useful!
Just came across this channel. I kind of like the way that Caxton looks. I’ll have to give it a go. Thanks for sharing.
So glad you like it, I hope you enjoy giving this cast on a go!
Never seen this before, but I’m going to use it from now on, for hats or other things. Very doable and looks nice.
yes I find this method much easier than things like the tubular cast on! hope you like it!
Thanks for sharing I will definitely try this new way 🎉😊
Awesome! Hope you like it!
Excellent tutorial, very clear🙏

That's really cool looking 🫠
and super easy to do!
Any tips on how to make it in the round?? Looks great but just wondering how to join to work in the round for top down. Thanks so much.

Oh Fantastic! I hope you enjoy giving it a go! it's great for top down socks and hats etc!
Love this, can't wait to try it!

Great demonstration and explanation. Thank you!
What’s the next step if working in the round please?
You should be able to work your rib K1, P1.
Is preparing for 2x2 rib a simple matter of casting two purls alternately with two knits?
No, sadly that doesn't work. Can you remove the original slip knot once you are done casting on? Or is the original slip knot just not visible once joined in the round?

Does it work for k2 p2 rib as well?
Not quite as well. I might make a video next week to show the 2x2 methods!
