How to turn on Autopilot:
So you just got a Tesla and want to try out autopilot but its not working. I’m going to show you exactly how to use Autopilot. You need one thing showing on your screen to turn on autopilot; a gray steering wheel without it you will get this (yellow failed engagement). When engaged successfully you will see the blue steering wheel and two blue lines on the center display. If you don’t see the gray steering wheel make sure autopilot is turned on under your setting and insure that you are not pressing down on the brake. The first pull is going to turn on adaptive cruise control that will keep your speed relative to traffic in front of you. The second pull turns on autopilot. Again, you know if it was a success when you hear the chime and the steering wheel turns blue.
Next you might be wondering how to turn off the autopilot or how to take control back. You can simply take control by turning the steering wheel, pressing on the brake, or lifting up on the drive stalk. It’s important to not that if you just take over the steering wheel the adaptive cruise control will still be engaged. Taking over by the brake or drive stalk will turn both features off.
To adjust the speed while autopilot is turned on, its best to use the right scroll wheel but you can also use the touch screen controls. Simply scroll the wheel up or down to adjust the speed.

Please make a video on model 3 full self drive how to operate for beginners
Thanks
Concise and to the point with no bs. Thank you for this
Happy to help!
Who the hell is that one thumbs down 👎? That person didn’t watch this video. Great video thumbs up 👍
Probably einhorn or Spiegel
Haha, Thank you for your support! Glad you liked the video!
This was so helpful as I just got my Model 3 a few days ago. Very well done. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
This is the Best of the best video instruction for autopilot on TH-cam, others just show off their knowledge more than teaching me how to setup and use it properly as a new owner. Thank you so much for your time making this valuable video instruction. Subscribed and Like!
So happy this helped you! Exactly what this video was intended for! Thanks for your kind words and subscribing 😊
Re-Upload adding a missing part, how to turn on Autopilot in the settings. Thanks again to my subscriber, Robert! Thank you so much for everyone that gave this video a thumbs up! A simple thumbs up goes a long way for TH-cam's algorithm. If you are new to Tesla, WELCOME!
I have a Q for you about figuring out the Auto Pilot Screen on a pre-owned Tesla. I found a 2018 Model 3 the dealer sent me a pic of screen and DOES show Auto Pilot, Auto Steer, Navigate on Auto Pilot etc. How could I tell if this has full self driving or not? What would the difference be?
Just got my MY, now I know how to set up autopilot. Thanks for the video.
You’re welcome! Hope you enjoy your Y!!!
Besides yanking the wheel I didn't know how to turn it off!! Thank you! I'm the new guy figuring it out
First like and comments
Thank you 😊
Just got my model 3 performance yesterday and learned a few great things from this short video. Good job!!
Thank you 🙏
Thank you for helping me because IReally want a Tesla when I grow up
You're welcome!
Great video! Thanks for sharing 👍
Great detailed and straightforward video. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words 😀
Great vid mate. Thanks. Get my Model 3 LR AWD in February(ish).......so much to learn about this amazing car.
Thanks so much Steve! I know you’ll love the Model 3 & it will be worth the wait.
Thank you so much for this!! I needed this.
You are so welcome!
I needed this. I could only turn on autopilot and was confused why I wasn't getting autosteer. Thank you. I've subscribed too
Thank you for subscribing! Happy to help :-)
Great video! I just got mine and this was very helpful!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful
Thank you so much for how to use it. I just try tesla model 3 long range yesterday
Glad I could help
Thank you for making this so easy…! I’m so intimidated!
You can do it!
Just got my brand-new model y. Very helpful 👍.
Awesome! Glad I could help!! Enjoy your new Y
I just got my MYP last week and I definitely didn't know how to activate auto pilot, thank you!
You’re welcome!
Very helpful video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!!!
Thank you!! I could NOT figure that out.
You’re welcome
Thank you so much for this video, appreciate it
Happy to help!
Same here. I just got my model Y so learning how to enable Basic Auto Pilot. I knew about engaging/using the stalk double click down, but need to set it up in the menus first for it to work.
Now I need to find out what and how sets the distance from other vehicles when slowing down behind them. Not sure how to do that yet.
Nice 👍.. for spacing, click the right scroll wheel from left to right
@@ALLElectricChannel Ah!!! Outstanding. Thanks for this information. Take care.
Many thanks … you solved this for me easily 😊
You’re welcome 😉
Thanks! I was struggling to turn it on with my new Y. Now I know why :)
Glad I could help!
Thanks. I just rented a model 3. I dont think I've EVER encountered a vehicle where I had to ask someone how to unlock and re-lock the car when leaving, lol. Not to mention, the autopilot feature.
The voice command functions have come in handy. Anytime I couldnt find a button I just voiced the command which worked well.
Yes, voice command is great! I hope they add more features in the future. I see many people using only voice commands when Tesla has the Robot-Taxi Network
Great video and really helpful
Glad it was helpful!
love the arrow "thwap" noises
Saw O’Reilly Auto Parts ad before this video & made me think of your last video about supercharging 🤓
😂🤣😂
Great video! I didn’t know I could tap the speed limit sign to set the speed or press up once on the stalk to cancel AP!
Thank you!! Glad you liked it
Great video, helped alot!!!! I was lost
Awesome! I’m happy to help 😃
This is so fire yo.
Helpfully
Thanks dude!
You’re welcome!
Very straight to the point video. I haven’t seen my autopilot do lane changes. Is that normal ? Or do I have to pay for autopilot.
Thanks for the refresher course! As a former Model S owner, the new Model Y is missing an autopilot stalk and I'm hopelessly lost. That and with the pandemic I haven't been on a highway in a few months so I haven't engaged autopilot since I took delivery...
Happy to help!
Thank you! I just got my new Tesla and was thinking it was broken. Yay!
Glad I could help!
Just got Y. Helpful. 😊
Preciate'cha bro
Omg, thx so much for this video! I almost complained to my Tesla dealer that I don’t have autopilot 😬🤦♂️
Glad it helped!
Thank you 😊
You’re welcome
Thank you 🙏
You’re welcome ☺️
Great guide and series idea. But pls elaborate on the difference between autopilot and autosteer. Thx
Auto steer is part of autopilot. Auto steer allows your car to drive and steer by itself. Simple to think of auto steer and autopilot as the same
My mom really was struggling ty a lot :D
So glad this was helpful!! Always happy to help a Mom out
How fast over the posted speed limit can you go on the highway? What about in a construction zone? +5 for both? Does it recognize the construction zone speed limit signs?
Thank you
You’re welcome!
Thank u so much
Happy to help!
Thank you for video. Just got my car 2 days ago....tried Autopilot and it would not engage. Now I know why, thanks again. Have not had time to play with all the features.
Awesome! So glad this was helpful!!
Takes awhile for Autopilot to adapt. According to Tesla: ".Before Autopilot features can be used for the first time, cameras must complete a self-calibration process. Calibration typically completes after driving 20-25 miles, but the distance varies depending on road and environmental conditions." When you have the gray steering wheel, Autopilot is usable.
Thank you so much
You’re welcome
Great basic lesson
Thank you 🙏
helpful for my Tesla rental car thnx
Thanks for the video. I am a new owner and I was frustrated!
You are so welcome! So glad I could help. Enjoy your new Tesla!!
Have you noticed that with 2019.24.4 the autopilot seems to break briefly when passing a car or just out of the blue?
Broooo thank u!!!
No problem!!
Nice timing on the video as Elon stated most Tesla service center appointments have been questions about using autopilot.
Listening to the Q2 call accelerated my plan for the video
Yes
thanks
You’re welcome
Thanks for this video. I will not be waving my hands like when I see another Tesla; I see 1000 Teslas a day here.
Thanks so much. I also weren’t able to try it yet. I don’t know why they don’t have a voice assistance in the car for all the functions. 😞
Glad I could help
Can we disable 'adaptive' part of the cruise control tp get classic cruise control behavior if needed? I need to get used to it, but I see the car randomly does jerky braking in adaptive cruise control mode...
Yes, you can in the settings
Very helpful, Thank you !!
You're welcome!
Thanks - got my car 3 days ago. I sort of found out what you showed. However the AP is most useful on highways and whenever i change lanes it disengages the autosteer - even if I put on the indicator. Even my Niro PHEV with LKAS and adaptive cruise control resumes after I have changed lanes post using the indicator.... Can the model 3 do something similar ?
I think it won’t change lanes unless your car has the upgraded software, FSD (if you just got your car) or EAP (for people that bought their car last year).
Not sure is it was mentioned but you must be in Park in order to do that. Change the ""AUTOPILOT" settings.
me, me. This video was for me. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Very glad it was helpful!!
Thanks
You’re welcome!
My 2019 model 3 standard doesn’t have this.. I have the click down once but when I do it twice nada
Please make a video of how to operate full self drive on model 3 for beginners?
Thanks
Will do once I get it in about 2 weeks #ElonTime
Wait, I am confused, your car stopped automatically in traffic while in autopilot? You don't need to disengage the autopilot and do manual control? I am scared to hitting someone, so didn't really tried it
Bit confused with terminology, is auto pilot free/included in purchase?
I believe fsd is the one that cost crazy.. Right.
Researching for cybertruck pre-order.
Yes, every Tesla now comes with Autopilot. FSD (Full Self Driving) is currently a $10,000 option.
does this need the full autopilot upgrade or is this the standard one
What I show in the video is just standard autopilot (what comes with every car).
Did you pay an optional extra for autopilot, or did you get it stock with the car?? I am in England by the way
I paid extra 5,000$ In California
Currently Autopilot comes with every Tesla you buy.
Really helpful! Some videos are a bit too advanced and i needed a basic video
Glad it was helpful!
Does this work with model y
Edit: I tried it on my model y and it works!
My dad drives a model x so he’s the reason I got the model y, it’s not to small and not too big just perfect, I have the performance trim
Yes! Operates the same as all other Teslas
Me too, my dad had no clue how to work his Tesla model 3 long range, this video really helped!
What does relative speed mean?
thats interesting
Thanks. Hope it helped
How do you park While it's on auto pilot ?
Autopilot is used on the road. In a parking lot you can use summon to drive your car around remotely. hope this helps
👍
If I'm behind a car at a light and I'm on autopilot, it restarts as soon as the light turns green without intervention. Is there a "restore to autopilot" when there's no car in front of me? I'd like to not have to re-set autopilot and just have it resume where I left off.
Hey Frederic! This is coming in a future update "stoplight detection". We should see this soon ( Maybe with V10 rollout in August or later this Fall).
Judging by the unmaintained sidewalk overgrowth I would say that it is safe to assume that you are driving in the deplorable City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. You will never see that here in Miami, Florida and we don't even pay a state income tax.
haha, nope. This video was taken in Virginia.
allman brothers
So I guess it only works when a destination is pre set?
No, What I show in this video works on any roads that have lines. Autopilot will not route you to a destination.
Is this with full autopilot??
What do you mean by "full" autopilot?
Cool I asked my dad if he can buy it for me and he said yes
Sweet!
I will get model x for 81,000
so whats the difference between autopilot and 6000 dollar enhanced full self driving capability?
Autopilot enables your car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically for other vehicles and pedestrians within its lane.
Full Self-Driving Capability includes Navigate on Autopilot: automatic driving from highway on-ramp to off-ramp including interchanges and overtaking slower cars.
Auto Lane Change: automatic lane changes while driving on the highway.
Autopark: both parallel and perpendicular spaces.
Summon: your parked car will come find you anywhere in a parking lot. Really.
Coming later this year:
Recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs.
Automatic driving on city streets.
Enhanced Autopilot (software that was offered up until last year had everything except the “coming later this year” section. Traffic light 🚦 and stop 🛑 & auto drive on city streets.
I’m just not getting a notification 😂
so can you auto plot he to work still not work
Lots of electric motor rolling resistance (regenerative braking) on these cars, 98% of the time I don't need to use the brakes.
That’s what make these so comfortable to me especially in traffic
Good day, I would like to ask if you are interested to test Tesla products as we are importer/ 3rd party Tesla accessories manufacturer. Thank you
sure send me an email: allelectricchannel@gmail.com
Navigate on autopilot is not available in standard autopilot.
Correct. FSD must be purchased
There is no good way to disengage just Auto Steer. A clarification: When you press the breaks or lift the gear column you you disengage the Auto Steer AND cruise control. When you forcibly turn the steering wheel in Auto Steer then only Auto Steer is disengaged. Very unfriendly jumpy way of doing it. One of the main reasons I'm not happy with this car.
I can't wait until the prices go down to afford a Tesla
Used ones are dropping quickly. I've seen some other Model s with 100k miles for $25,000. Keep in mind those had no Autopilot features.
Re-upload?
Yeah, a subscriber commented and let me know it was missing a critical part for new owners (how to turn on AP in settings). I added that part of the video and re-uploaded. Thanks again to Robert for the suggestion!
Yeah looks like it
At the beginning, he says that this video will not get into "Navigate on autopilot", because this is just for beginners. Then, shortly afterward, he states that. you should pull the stalk down twice to get a blue steering wheel which indicates that you are in autopilot! Confusing!
Navigate on autopilot and autopilot are different. Nav on AP is for highways; will change lanes and take exits for you. AP will keep you in your lane.
I have a tesla model 3
Me too!
Great video , but how do you stop the fucking snapping ?
Who else her but do not have a Tesla
😂 thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed
Do you have one
STOP THE SNAPS.!.!.! Otherwise good
Thank you for your feedback. Many other people also didn't like the "snaps". I'll be sure not to add that with my future videos.
bad guy
