I’ve learned to use tinfoil to form a make-shift channel up over the axel to let the oil drip from the filter down the foil into the drain pan. No messy parts to wipe clean after. 🇨🇦👍🏼
Excellent video. It's too bad they designed that filter to dump all over the steering rack. For vertically mounted filters, I get a 1 gallon zip lock bag and slip that over the bottom of the filter so all the oil runs into the bag as I spin it off. Not sure if you've ever given that a try but I've found it to be successful.
@@YellowVette04 Sweet! I learned it from the folks on the Ford Sport Trac forum about 15 years ago and have been using that ever since on vertical filters. It gets slick with hot oil running between the filter and the bag, so it can be a challenge to grip and turn, but it's not impossible. :)
I just got a 2016 1500 express with 39k miles on it and noticed that the oil dipstick has a riveted piece on the lower end of it, 6 inches up from the tip, normal/ not normal, what say you all
Sorry for the late reply. Try starting it and letting it run for a minute and then check level again to see if you need to add more. Hope you figured it out
I'm still learning like you. I grew up in a family that went to a mechanic for everything, so I'm trying to do some of the regular maintenence things on my own. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Not yet. I haven't had time to remove the grill and all that jazz. Hopefully soon I'll have time to put the HID kit in bc the stock headlights suck as you know.
Yea factory projectors. I think tradesman and sport had the blacked out version and Laramie had chrome... but I'm not sure. I don't know my 4th gen ram like I know my C5 lol. I like how they look too, but still suck at lighting the road lol.
Did you get any oil on that fancy Rangers sweatshirt? If so, let me know. I have a Flyers one you can borrow. 🤣. I miss my Ram. Oil changes were so easy! Nice work buddy.
That sweatshirt will be perfect for changing the cam out. It'll wipe my hands clean lol. This thing is so much easier. You have a lift but this oil change was done before I even get the vette on stands lol
The main reason I was looking for videos was to see if there was a trick to take the filter off without getting oil all over the fuckin place. What a gong show location for it. Lol
Lol stupid spot for it. I had some viewers suggest using a large zip lock bag to contain the oil and filter as it's removed. I'm about to change the oil again and will try that method.
I'm too lazy to get out from under the car/truck and open it and then get back under, so it comes off before lol. Don't think it matters much which order that's done in. Thanks for the comment 👍
First of all... you are a traitor .... how a corvette owner drives a DODGE truck!? 🧐... you deserve a Silverado man!! Haha... nice job ... to be honest that Filter is such a pain to remove OMG!! And I thought the Colorado was hard!! Hahah
Thanks for watching. This is a quick oil change for my Ram 1500 since I got it. Hope this is helpful for anybody that needs it.
Damn good idea I’m about to do this 👍
Next time put a bag over the filter and as you unscrew it the oil will leak out into the bag and not get all over everything.
Thanks for the suggestion. Someone else recommended that too, so I'll definitely use this next time. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Something about fresh oil being poured into an engine, just never gets old 👍

Thanks for commenting and thanks for the tip. I'll have to try that the next time I do an oil change.
About to do my first oil change on my dodge, this is the only video I had to watch. Good job man
I appreciate the comment 🤘. Thanks for watching and glad it helped

Dude that's a great idea!! I'm definitely doing that next time. So obvious but never thought about it. Thanks the for tip 👍

ayy goood lookin out!! Love the fact my SLT is a 2016 5.7 Ram you got the video for changing oil in a 2016 Ram.. thanks great VId
Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck with the change 👍
I've owned a few different trucks throughout my life. Changing the oil on them is nice and easy at least. No need to use jack stands most of the time.
Dude so much easier. I don't have a lift for the vette so this oil change was done before the vette would have been on jack stands lol.
I put a zip lock bag around the filter while I unscrew it so all the oil leaks into the bag instead of all over my truck
Great tip and something I never thought about. Someone else recommended it, so I'll definitely do that next time. Thanks for the comment 👍
and do you close it tight and put it in the freezer for later? ;-)
Good video. Plain and simple.
Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment

Drained mine on a level driveway. Let it fully drain out.
Only took 5 quarts to get to cross marks on dipstick. What am i missing??
Sorry for the late reply. Try starting it and letting it run for a minute and then check level again to see if you need to add more. Hope you figured it out
@YellowVette04 still not taking a full 7 quarts. Even after starting and shutting down, waiting 5-10 mins and rechecking.
@@ryanncushway8384maybe it’s a v6
Good job bro!! Thats crazy where they have the oil filter!!!! C'mon Dodge!!!!
I know man. I'm too old to be bending my body in weird directions like that lol.
Thank you don’t know much about this stuff but I’m trying to learn

Great video brotha!!! Thanks
Glad the vid helped. Thanks for watching and commenting 🤘
What's up buddy good video. I miss my white 2017 ram, new is not always better :(
It's a great truck but now you have a 2019 which I'm sure is even better
@@YellowVette04 the 2018 prolly best ram made
Did I miss a headlight install?

That was awesome!
Thanks for the video!

there's no great vaccum created if cap is still on
My kinda asmr.... I have a plan for a Corvette asmr.....
Lol I hate snow. What makes it worse is the amount of salt and brine they put down. The snow is all gone but the roads are painted white 🤦♂️
Lol that’s what she said
🤣
I let the Dodge dealer change mine let them suffer with that filter placement design
Better wipe that engine the truck is going to be jealous I know the vette don't look like that under the hood.
I was thinking the same thing when I opened up the hood 🤣🤣
I wish dodge put a 6.4 in Rams.
That would definitely be nice. Should offer it in the high end trim levels at least. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
They did in the TRX I can’t wait to sell my soul for the TRX 🤦🏽♂️😂
5w-30 is better
Thanks for watching and commenting. I generally follow the manufacturer's recommendations when it comes to fluids.

Bc it's SOOO much sexier than the Silverado lol. At least I don't have to Jack the truck up to change the oil, so that's a plus lol
