    For me laptop user with a mix of AMD 780M IGPU and RTX 4060 DGPU! this aspect of CachyOS is key: "We are providing precompiled nvidia modules for every kernel. We are not relaying on nvidia-dkms anymore since Mid of November 2023. This helps to avoid issues with compatibility or the compilation with nvidia-dkms." Believe this can save lots of headaches (if done well of course). Great video A1rm4x!

      Hi. I also have 780M and 4060. I was wondering if there is battery life optimized kernel for AVX512? I would ideally be able to switch between different power levels, but is there way to make custom CPU speed limits? In Fedora and Kubuntu there was no way to fully power down 4060 Nvidia with Optimus GPU switcher and EnvyControl, how is this working in CachyOS?

    CachyOS is AMAZING. So many Arch based distros are beautiful and maybe add a few helper tools, but that is just theming and tools you can add to any Arch install. CachyOS is different down to its very foundation- it is a real quality distro that stands out substantively.

    I've been using it for more than a year now, its optimizations are noticeable, the staff is very responsive and updates are fairly punctual (there are no long delays for important packages as seen with ALHP). They also aim for sane defaults with is a refreshing user-centric approach. Have I mentioned the performance improvements, ah - I did. That is a big plus of course.

  • @k.b.tidwell
    @k.b.tidwell 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I had ran Cachy a year or so ago for a little bit, but I never got down in the weeds and really understood the optimizations made by the team. It's very worth it if you do! They have put a LOT of work into the improvements, and the wiki explains each pretty clearly. I installed it again last night on a Thinkpad, and I'm stoked to really see how much computing improvement I'm going to be able to get with that older machine.

      took 5 installs to get it to work today. wasn't at all better for me than what manjaro does (yk having 8gb of ram in modern day requires an os using less than a gig at all times) i can say most arch distros won't do this but i was trilled to see it download my 391.157 driver no questions asked. once i get off this 2012 laptop i might be happy to switch. but i'll also be on a Radeon so it really wouldn't matter.

    I had a great time on Garuda for a month and a half before it broke and I switched to Arch. My experience is that Arch variants with menus like this don't have you do the core command line interactions that teach you how the OS works. I'ts always a problem when something breaks, because you haven't learned how to fix it.

    • @whiskytangi
      @whiskytangi 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It applies to how fast the package manager can find packages, install, and resolve issues if any are there. pacman is really good at this and zippyr (openSUSE) is notoriously slow

    Salut A1rnax, j'aurais une question je pense passer à Arch prochainement et je sais que tu as utilisé EndeavourOS pendant longtemps et maintenant CachyOS depuis un certain temps. Laquelle de c'est distribution tu aimes le plus et est la plus stable et facile à faire la maintenance. Merci beaucoup et très bon vidéos en passant. 👍

    • @A1RM4X
      @A1RM4X  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Salut Gabriel! Pour commencer et apprendre a maintenir Arch, je conseillerai EndeavourOS parceque la distro est moins customisée. Une fois que tu as la distro en main, et si tu en sens le besoin, tu peux passer sur CachyOS. Pour profiter au max de Cachy, il faut comprendre ce qu elle propose et ca me parait plus difficile sans avoir certaines bases sur Arch (moins de support pour les debutants sur CachyOS).
      Pour la stabilité et la maintenance, aucune difference. C'est du Arch avec repo Arch (solide si tu sais ce que tu fais).

    Tried CachyOS myself and... It's a great project, and looking at the comments, people enjoy it and see the benefits. In my particular case, though, I got more issues, than Nobara. Wake from sleep ends up with black screen, Nvidia Wayland does not work at all, app startup time differs anywhere from 1 sec to 5 seconds. Spectacle opens so slow, that sometimes I wonder whether I pressed the keys correctly or not. Other than these issues, which I'm sure are fixable, this is a great distro. I'm just looking for a perfect distro for my setup, which would work the best out of the box. So far it is Bazzite. Will try BlendOS now, and I hope it's my final distrohop before anchoring to it or back to Bazzite 🐰

      The way I understand it is that it basically performs a speedtest on all the available mirrors and orders them based on best to worst connection. Then when you download packages, etc. it will attempt to use the highest ranked mirror first and if that's not available, it'll try the next one down, and so on...

    Ça a l'air sympa comme distribution, comme tu le dis, mais le problème, c'est qu'il faut presque être administrateur système/dev/testeur juste pour avoir un OS qui te permet d'utiliser "100%" de ton matériel. Je préfère avoir 10% de performance en moins et que tout fonctionne, que ce soit stable, et passer plus de temps à jouer qu'à tweaker. J'ai beau être passionné et avoir les mains dans Debian toute la journée, le soir j'ai juste envie que ça marche. On commence doucement à y arriver malgré l'EAC, mais de façon générale, ça commence à être acceptable. Avec l'IA, je ne comprends pas que ce ne soit pas plus exploité pour scripter et automatiser tout ce qui est possible, y compris les patchs du git que tu as montrés. En tout cas, merci. Petit à petit, tu changes mon avis sur Arch, mais pour moi, la bonne méthode, c'est celle de Valve. Ça n'avance pas vite, mais ils évitent les régressions. et merci de parler de linux avec enthousiasme sans le coté fanboy c'est cool :). Bonne continuation !

    I don't know what they have done with this distro but it was the slowest distro I ever tested for gaming. Even Mint and Debian 12 stable (whith not any hack) is faster. The sharpest distro I ever tested for games is Solus 4.5 sadly it lacks many tools.

    I'd be insane too - If I could endure Cachy for 60 days. Cachy is a good project. For a while now - I've tried to stick with Distros from larger companies - with more substantial development teams..... Simply put - I stay away from the new kid on the block.

    Tried CashyOS and as a relatively newish user to linux as a desktop i dont think the user experience is great out of the box. .deb files wont install, zip wont extract, dark mode doesn't trigger and thats just the start so far. I know these are minor issues but if you cant get simple things working out of the box then the user adoption is crap. So far I'm impressed with Mint as a desktop.

      Hey! CachyOS is based on Arch Linux: you won´t be able to install packages from Debian / Ubuntu (.deb) on it.
      I am happy you are enjoying Linux Mint. Welcome to the Linux gamer team!

    Is this a sponsored vid? Praising CachyOS over marketing slogans is pointless. Couldn't see anyone post actual benchmarks comparing CachyOS to Arch Linux.

      Sponsored by who? There is no sponsor in this video and if it was the case it would be disclosed in it.
      For the benchmarks, just check any of my LIVE broadcast and you will see how it performs: I use it as a reference because it just gives me the best results in 1% lows and minimal input lag.

    The author of this video didn't mention one very important thing: one of the core developers is not only from russia, but he is still there. So I wouldn't be so sure that somewhere in the CachyOS code there is some kind of malware. Also, would you be so comfortable to use a distro from terrorists?
