    I am totally blown away with how well you have used the space in the cabin. Efficient layout, easy acess, and it feels warm and comfortable to boot. Well done. I like it a lot!

    You have a beautiful boat both inside and out, and I think a lot of other boaters would be envious of all your hard work to make it so cosy and homely.

    You truly have one of the very best laid-out designs I've seen Johnny. I love the garden tub and shower, love the large refrigerator, love your curtains and love the oven. It is easy to see, a whole lot of planning went into your boat. Well done you !

    • @ProjectNarrowboat
      @ProjectNarrowboat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I did spend a long time planning it all out but it was inspired by the first boat I ever viewed. The curtains are Ikea, cut into 3's, a lady friend sowed them all up for me :) I used cheap Ikea curtain poles and got the short arms that hold the bottom poles from B&Q.

    That was worth waiting for. The style is really elegant and unfussy and the materials are fantastic. That’s the nicest bathroom I’ve seen on a boat. Bet you stay in the bath for hours.

      Cheers Gary, I like seeing how people have done things too - I guess there is no "best" layout for a boat, it's always a bit of a compromise in a space like that, but I am pleased with it.

      @@ProjectNarrowboat I was lucky enough to design the complete layout of my interior as my boat was a burnt out shell.
      I remember sitting with graph paper and little 2cm by 2cm squares trying to workout where beds would fit and sizes of kitchen etc. Those were the days :)
      I really like your open layout of the saloon and many hot water radiators - I don't have those, just a log burner and Phoenix is only 37 foot.
      I so wish i had watched more of yours and others videos when I was designing my layout but TH-cam wasn't really a thing then 🤣
      Stay safe, well, warm and happy sir 👍

    Very, very nice (as I knew it would be, since you have such a great eye for detail.) Those floors are probably the best I've seen on any boat, and, oh my goodness, you not only have a separate office, you have a freaking 🛁bathtub!🚿 😍SOLD!!

    • @ProjectNarrowboat
      @ProjectNarrowboat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The floor was the jewel in the crown in many ways, definitely worth the effort of hand laying every bit of parquet. The bath is a little treat when I have the water, and actually gives me a nice big shower area the rest of the time so it's quite practical really. The office, well, it's good to have another space to go to other than just the saloon the whole time.

    Aww JL you’ve done your boat interior fab - nothing less than we’ve come to expect. Thankyou for sharing your home with us nosey folk 🤣. We are still working on optimising the best use of my spare space as storage on our NB- it certainly makes you think about having specific spaces for things and not hanging on to clutter. We’ve just got too many tools but it’d be Sod’s law if we took them back to the house we’d surely need them on the boat the following week. Hope you’ll be heading back up towards the north this year as we’d love to have coffee and cake with you - take care

    • @ProjectNarrowboat
      @ProjectNarrowboat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A typical narrowboat compromise there with the stern steps I'm afraid. I did want them much deeper but I'm always in and out of the cupboards there, for tools etc and if I had made bigger steps I'd have to move them out of the way everytime. They're "useable" anyway.

      Hi john, good question. There are inevitable compromises with any layout in a space like this, but overall I'm very happy with it. I specifically wanted a long lounge and a separate office area. If I do another boat though, I'd just do it completely different, for a change!

  • @johnmcgaw2753
    @johnmcgaw2753 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Johnny, thanks so much for the tour. I've been curious as have many others to see they whole vessel. You've done yourself proud providing every 'mod con'. A dishwasher AND a bathtub indeed! One thing got me wondering: do you actually do your video work on that tiny laptop screen? Have you considered a larger monitor, perhaps mounted on a swing-tilt arm above the desk. I've found that fitting in the biggest monitor possible is important as, ahem, one advances in years. I've moved up from a 17" to a 32" over a couple of decades trying to keep pace... Oh, almost forgot: did you fit out the whole boat yourself or did you modify it from an existing design? TIA

    • @ProjectNarrowboat
      @ProjectNarrowboat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like a bigger monitor but of course it's power consumption, so I stick with the laptop especially on dull winter days when the solar is not doing much. I had the boat built to my specifications, and it came to me already ply lined, the wc and bath was in too, and the electrics and plumbing. I've done everything else, central heating, stove, kitchen, paint etc etc.

    Excellent skills in making your boat very very nice.
    My opinion is that the lounge, bathroom, kitchen,toilet and stern spaces are 100% perfect.
    My only disappointed space is your bedroom which I presume is inherited when you bought the boat. My reason for saying that is two fold. Boat construction techniques are poor and inherently manifest themselves in the bedrooms on boats.
    In line beds are the poorest design because of the prevalence of moisture trapped between bed and hull and moisture trapped under mattresses which all suffer with. Lessond to some extent by having a cross boat bed and eliminated with a free standing bed altogether which I favour if I were building a new boat
    Going back to my comments on boat design being poor in most cases that is no steel treatment and spray foam trapping moisture causing acceleration of corrosion. This is my No 1 criticism of boat building
    Dispite my opinion you have made the best job of making the interior of a narrow boat very comfortable and it is a credit to you
    Very well done

      Hi David. Agreed, the bedroom is the weakest area. I wouldn't like a cross bed only for having to set it up last thing at night when I'm tired. A solution would be to have a reverse layout and have the bed up by the bow, headboard to the doors so some space all around. But then I wanted the saloon there for doors open in summer etc. Always compromises.

      Hi Glynn, I don't think it's quite in that price bracket but I do have it how I want it, which is priceless.

      @@ProjectNarrowboat It was a joke with reference to Rugby boat sales channel, but she really is a beautiful boat.
