    Thank you for sharing your process. Your voice and explanation are so clear and watching your hands move really helped cement the technique in my brain. Gorgeous yarn and finished projects. So lovely.

    Another great video, thanks for sharing how to chain ply. And watching you do the math on the yardage and grist made me realize that I want to figure that out for my future skeins of handspun so that I can research knitting patterns that I can use. Happy spinning!

      I am glad you found the information useful! I know most people’s eyes glazed over when I start talking about math! Lol! I tried to sneak it in there! 😁

    Hi , I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️
    Thankyou so much for sharing this video podcast and your expertise with us.
    I'm a fairly new Spinner and had been wondering how I could make a Self Stripping Yarn, without using a Braid.
    I have plenty of colours but no braids. So your video is just what I needed.
    I love your Fingerless Mitts and Matching Cowl, they look amazing.
    Many, many thanks.
    Happy Spinning Fibre Friend 🎡🐑🥰
    Take care and stay safe

    Oh, that's so fun, seeing you use algebra in real life! I figure grist the same way, solving for x. Miss Armstrong, my high school algebra teacher, would be so proud. I love the yarn. I think there's a sample pack sometime in my future. I am a new spinner, and I your videos are so helpful to me. I really like how I can clearly see what you are doing, and you explain what you are doing so clearly as well. Thank you! harpingJanet

    OMG, math! 🤪 Spinning & knitting math make my brain go 🤯. I am SO bad at it, lol. I need to find an app that I can just plug numbers into and it will do it for me!
    I do love the yarn, the color repeats were gorgeous

      I knew math was going to get a lot of people. That’s why I snuck it in at the end! Lol.🤣🤣🤣 I know that you can look up grist for some of the common fibers. I did it for Polwarth a while back.

    Beeutifull! I'm going to work up similar but make some socks. Thank you for the math on grist. I usually cross my fingers and hope I have enough.

    • @jkfiberarts

      An easy way I a lot when making socks and haven’t started the second one is to weigh the finished sock and weigh the remainder of your yarn and you will know if you have enough for the second sock. This might help too- 3.5 oz of fingering weight yarn is enough for most socks( cables use more yarn). Spin happy!😁

    Pretty! Great idea for the small bits of fiber I have. I was thinking of using my drum carder but this is a fun alternative. About how many grams were each of your little nests, sorry if I missed it?

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t weigh them. I had 5.5 oz total and 6 colors so around 29g each color. Then I divided each color into quarters.

    I have been watching your videos and LOVE them. I don’t see you take the yarn back out of the orifice and drape it down to see if it makes a U shape without twisting on itself. Is this just a preference or do you feel it isn’t a good indication of a well balanced yarn when spinning? I do it this way, but I seem to get 20 degree twist but I want to increase to 30 degrees. Thank you!

      When plying I use a spinning tool to measure my ply angle. When you wind onto your niddy noddy, and then wet set, the yarn will lose some of its energy and twist. I use the technique you describe all the time, I want my yarn to twist very gently back on itself when plying. That is different than a true plyback test, which is for spinning singles. Part of your trouble getting the angle of ply you want, may be that your single doesn’t have enough energy. The plyback test is for use on your singles. It will show you what your plied yarn will look like with the twist you currently have in your single. . I have a video called spinning a consistent 2-ply that might help you.

      @@jkfiberarts Do you use the U method in a video. I would love to see it since I am a very visual learner. Many thanks! I will review that video again!

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@traceytowner176 I think what you are calling a “U” test is the ply back test. Are you using it on your singles or when your ply? I don’t aim for a “U”, you will see it in every spinning video I do. For the single I want it to look like my final yarn. It gives me a good idea of what I will get WPI and twist. I also use it when I ply, but again, I am not looking for a “U” because that yarn would not give me the angle of ply I want, and I want a little energy left over, as it will lose some during the setting process. When I take my yarn off of my niddy noddy it is a balanced yarn.
