  • Come along with me in this video as I fix the oil leak that developed on Mrs.O's 2019 Kia Sedona with the big 3.3. Ended up being an easy fix and it wasn't the classic Kia oil pressure switch either.
    -Enjoy!

I’m gonna guess Eric bought this used so he didn’t get the benefit of the 10 year 100K power train warranty as this would otherwise be fixed for free at the dealer. As entertaining as his videos are Eric O seems to often make poor choices in his own vehicles. For example he bashes everything made by Chrysler/Damlier/Fiat/Stellaris, and their next bankruptcy creditor, yet buys a Jeep that he regularly hates on for how they’re complete junk. You get what you pay for.

I bet the rubber gasket swells as he heats up, and the plastic has to stretch a little with it each time -- and eventually the plastic work hardens and just stays stretched, and then when the rubber cools and shrinks again, it leaks; and that's why he said it doesn't leak anymore once it heats up. I think it's called "creep", when the plastic will slowly stretch itself into a new shape and will no longer shrink back to it's original form. So buying the housing was the right move; I'm sure it's distorted and not even flat anymore. Why you would bolt plastic to a hot block with boiling hot oil blasting through it? I don't have a clue.

BMW's have a similar problem (N54 oil filter housing - probably applies to other engines too). The gasket gets hard and then it leaks. A light application of RTV might be a good thing to try. So buying the housing was the right move; I'm sure it's distorted and not even flat anymore. Why you would bolt plastic to a hot block with boiling hot oil blasting through it? I don't have a clue.

@@calholli My 2005 Cavalier has the oil filter housing on the right side of the Engine (Yes a plastic cup near a hot engine) and you have to use a 32 socket with an extension just to open it to change the filter. eventually it did started leaking oil once it started hitting over 130k miles (225,000 KMS) and had to change the housing and gaskets It made it's last journey July 3rd 2022 when my tire blew out and crashed into a light post and into a grassy median on the highway (I bought used tires because i was broke and needed new tires to hold me over but didn't check the DOT on the tires they were probably Old tires because the tread was 60% front and 50% in the rear)

Good job, Eric. I probably would not have thought of getting the entire filter assy for the gasket - I guess that's one point for plastics - buying an entire aluminum housing would have probably been expensive. I'm sorta losing my love for o-rings - seen too many flatten out. If it had been a gasket, you coulda made one!

I'm always amazed at how the differences in local climates effects rust on cars. Where you live in NY, I've seen you post pics of vehicles from 2018-2019, and there's major rust on the frame, and other underside components. Yep, I get it about salt, I was born in Eastern Ontario, raised in Alberta, lived a couple years in Toronto as a young adult, I've seen them the roads like they were try to make salt pork. When I moved back to Edmonton all those years ago, I noticed how we use overall no salt on the winter roads, lots of sand. And I've been under my 2014 ram 1500, and the worst rust I found was surface rust. As I said, it amazes me how climate affects vehicles. Sorry for the long story, great channel, I always learn something new.

Always enjoy your repair adventures....It makes me sad to hear the hate and ridicule Jiffy-Lubes get on these channels. Mostly deserving as the pay grade they pay people who mostly have no prior automotive knowledge attempting to fast-track training because of the revolving door of staff turn-over. I worked at a Jiffy-Lube in Brantford, Ontario Canada for 5 years over 25 years ago in my early 20's. The franchise owner was a Welshman who was the most particular man I've ever met about everything. Our shop was literally cleaner from the storage loft to the compressor room to the floors at the bottom of the pits than any restaurant kitchen!! IMMACULATE! His attention to detail spanned to training of employees as well. We turned out quality work because of it. I am mechanically inclined which helped a lot as I could help greatly in training new recruits as well. The pay grade also caused the revolving door of trainees there as well. It was the reason I left for greener pastures as well. I know fast lube places can be sketchy these days and I don't even want to think about it as vehicles have become increasingly hard to service as well.....I guess I can say I proudly that I worked at a Jiffy-Lube location which was one in a million...:) Keep up the great repair work sir!

it is all smoke and mirrors, virtue signaling. The grid can't handle only electric vehicles ... in most countries.
I still would like to get a carbureted car with a distributor; mostly mechanical parts. Check out UTG/Uncle Tony's Garage for content based on old engines.
Also, in 'merica, a lot of people live in rural areas where electric cars just don't cut it. Average range of EV 211 miles. Imagine 150 round trip to work (lots of people do it, I know several) in a place where it can be -20F when you leave for work ... the EV probably won't make it to work and back because you are blasting heat, it is cold and that affects range/battery capability as well. So no combustion engine would be big problems. Just like that blizzard traffic jam that left people in their cars for a day; gas engines idle for a loooong time on a few gallons of gas; the battery is likely not going to last until it is cleared because you have to run the heat to stay alive.
So I just listen to the buffoons blabber like it always has been enough to know the bs going around, then I ignore it all; but my 'luxury' to ignorance is I have survived cancer and heart failure, I may not be here next year, not going to try to jump in the dirt faster by being 'worried' about morons spouting faux utopia/dystopia rhetoric. Batteries need a lot more dedicated science for car safety specifically before they should be readily adopted when are are moving to the amount of energy stored in EVs which will only get bigger. Fire containment/suppression built in, because you can't have a parking garage full of EVs, one starts to turn into a roman candle underneath the apartment building of the families that own those vehicles.
I'm all for the technology advancement, and I hope they can figure it all out. It isn't ready yet for the masses.
How does it feel when our reality feels more like a parody than it should? Idiocracy is feeling far more prophetic than it ever should've been as a satire.

Eric, there’s also a TSB or recall type document going on with certain KIA v-6’s, concerning the oil pressure sensor/switch that resides under the intake in the V of the engine. Often it gets misdiagnosed as a rear main due to how the oil flows from the switch. Also this failure scenario has also caused oil to be pushed between the insulation and wire at the connection of the sensor, which often pushes the oil up and to a group of two or three solenoids that are mounted over the front valve cover/serpentine belt area. Oil will drip down onto the belt and other parts and oil will get spread everywhere.
