Non-guitar players and those who haven't practiced this style of music really underestimate the efficiency of muscle memory. There's licks that I can play so well that I don't even need to try whereas others that are 'simpler' are just impossible for my dumb hands. Props to you sir! Very well spoken. Well said. I don't know how I ended up on Lucas's channel, but I have been a Jared Dines fan for a couple years. I guess I saw him im thumbnail so I clicked it. I stand behind Lucus 100%, as anyone should. Jared did him wrong on so many levels, setting him back tremendously. Breaking down exactly what he is playing, how he plays it and how the audio hits the concert attendee was perfect. I'm not familiar word any of that but he break it down Barney style for me and I got it. He kept his cool, educated everyone and provided his side very professionally. I hope the best for Lucus and as well as RoS. I will be adding them to my Spotify Playlist.

Not a fan of rings of sturn, but the drummer has extreme talent. After seeing this, i must say that i have new respect for the guitarist as well. There have been many accusations against the band, and guitars being faked. But if you see this, despite the band not being my cup of tea just know i have a new found respect for all, and for each of you individually. I hope to catch you live in Illinois some day

I heard him say “Excuse me” like “excusay may” at a show trying to squeeze past me. He was pretty nice. He did make a couple of mistakes during the show, so I never doubted it. He probably did do studio magic for the albums, but he definitely could play them regardless. Who doesn’t use studio magic anyways?

oof biggest DT fan here, but I disagree. Petrucci makes a lot of mistakes, and received a big backlash in the last few years for just "jumping" faster parts of his songs. But idk in the last 10 years he came back to playing almost 100% how he plays in studio

I've only seen them once for the recent Metropolis anniversary tour but Petrucci was the guitarist that made me want to learn more than just "how to play fast" and if you listen to overture 1928 from Live Scenes From New York he makes a pretty noticeable mistake at roughly 2:45, a couple other slips on that song but the day I heard that when it was just playing in the background was the day I realized he's still human. absolutely nailed it for the anniversary tour, and I'm gonna leave my issues with James alone except to say that I agree with what's been said. can't speak to issues of him rushing but just saying there's recorded proof of him playing it nearly note for note with only one real flaw. sorry for the long pointless comment

When you said people made an argument of you not "picking" the descending notes, I (as a guitarist) had a serious face palm moment. Any guitarist can see that your playing is real. Just because it's standard practice that a lot of main-stream artists have limited musical skills doesn't make someone who tirelessly dedicates their life to their artistic skill fake. There are some insane guitarists out there guys, who are (generally) not known in main stream music. If you thought you're an insane guitarist because you can play a Nirvana song you're in for a rude awakening.

That also confused me, as the only way I’ve ever known to play that godless times part is in a continuous descending part using a scrunchy or wrap to clean up the noise. Furthermore, if you know that solo you can tell with the timing he is playing and if he were miming it that well it would be pointless effort because his timing is perfect. It’s funny because I have learned some of their licks by ear and sight..... if it was mimed I wouldn’t be able to do that.
Such a civilized and diplomatic response, much respect. This whole thing reminds me of Arthur C. Clarke quote; "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." I hope you are not discouraged from making music in the future as well, and Rings of Saturn should definitely find their way to perform in Finland some day.

I heard him say “Excuse me” like “excusay may” at a show trying to squeeze past me. He was pretty nice. He did make a couple of mistakes during the show, so I never doubted it. He probably did do studio magic for the albums, but he definitely could play them regardless. Who doesn’t use studio magic anyways?

A quick disclaimer: I have watched Jared Dines' videos for a long time but only go back and watch his earlier stuff, don't watch any of his new stuff as it is mediocre at best
Also, I do like Rings of Saturn's music, but with very little research and very little knowledge on this subject, I previously assumed that there was some level of 'fakeness' going on with both their live sound as well as their recorded sound, after watching this video my view has completely changed due to the level of transparency and facts on display

oof biggest DT fan here, but I disagree. Petrucci makes a lot of mistakes, and received a big backlash in the last few years for just "jumping" faster parts of his songs. But idk in the last 10 years he came back to playing almost 100% how he plays in studio

I've only seen them once for the recent Metropolis anniversary tour but Petrucci was the guitarist that made me want to learn more than just "how to play fast" and if you listen to overture 1928 from Live Scenes From New York he makes a pretty noticeable mistake at roughly 2:45, a couple other slips on that song but the day I heard that when it was just playing in the background was the day I realized he's still human. absolutely nailed it for the anniversary tour, and I'm gonna leave my issues with James alone except to say that I agree with what's been said. can't speak to issues of him rushing but just saying there's recorded proof of him playing it nearly note for note with only one real flaw. sorry for the long pointless comment

When you said people made an argument of you not "picking" the descending notes, I (as a guitarist) had a serious face palm moment.
Any guitarist can see that your playing is real. Just because it's standard practice that a lot of main-stream artists have limited musical skills doesn't make someone who tirelessly dedicates their life to their artistic skill fake.
There are some insane guitarists out there guys, who are (generally) not known in main stream music.

You’re 100% correct. People who accuse these artists of faking are generally inexperienced players or non-players, and cannot comprehend the path that these musicians have taken to achieve their skill.
That also confused me, as the only way I’ve ever known to play that godless times part is in a continuous descending part using a scrunchy or wrap to clean up the noise.
Furthermore, if you know that solo you can tell with the timing he is playing and if he were miming it that well it would be pointless effort because his timing is perfect.
It’s funny because I have learned some of their licks by ear and sight..... if it was mimed I wouldn’t be able to do that.
