  • Driver in purple BMW survives crash down mountain. Taking a break from all the big wrecks and rollovers with another car fishing adventure. In today's episode, Alex is dispatched in Big Flipper, our 75ton rotator, to fish up a BMW they said was 500 feet down the mountain. These estimates are almost always off, sometimes more or sometimes less. Alex used his range finder to more accurately estimate it at less than 200'.
Using his new repelling gear, Alex made short work of this job and with the help of our BA car straps got it safely back up to the top of the road. From here he was able to lift up the entire car and rotator it then set directly onto our flatbed driven by Vicente. A couple of tumbles due to the wet foliage, but otherwise a perfect car fishing adventure.
Driver was OK believe it or not. You would figure by the damage to the older car it would not be pretty, but even more unbelievable is they picked up the car 3 weeks later and paid in cash lol. Now that is something rare! What did you guys think of this fishing job and Alex's new hiking equipment?
And don't forget to head to www.pepestowla.com/shop after the video and grab the new 2024 calendar along with some cool Pepe's swag to represent your favorite tow company!

Imagine your job application asked a few odd questions, you know the normal. Okay with heights? Solo repelling? Extreme heat? Rattle snakes? Yah the typical rotator operator questions! Nice job.

WOW!!! THIS is really amazing watching Alex setting himself up knowing all his equipment is capable of extraditing or retrieving this BMW from down a mountain side and watching him descending to the car site carrying heaving weighted equipment and getting himself tangled among the debris of broken branches and scrambling to find his footing. After setting up the vehicle he has to climb back to the top [you need a lot of strength, energy and fitness to do this job and prayer as well to keep safe] Now he has to getting the vehicle slowly up to the top. Watch via the drone was amazing like watching a 'whale' being dragged through thick bushes of kelp lol. Final lift onto the towing trailer. I would have hated to have been the driver of that vehicle and yet he survived, thank you God for allowing me to survive. Amen and Amen!!! They need crash barriers along that mountainous road. That was just amazing Alex -great day for fishing!!!

Alex, you might want to use a double figure 8 knot on the end for loops off your outrigger, then its significantly easier to undue as a double overhand can bind up super tight under tension. Glad you have a good kern mantel rappel line and harness. Be safe hermano !👍

What I can't understand how we were taught when we were young, NEVER climb in your car when you see the weather is bad. If you all ready on the road pull off and wait a while to see what the weather is going to do. With all the damaged cars and no one serious hurt may GOD bless each and every one and those who are responsible to pull the cars away. GOD knew and send his angels with every one on the roads.

Hi Alex. One has to wonder how the drivers and passengers get out of there. Perhaps there is a trail going down towards the house judging by the number of vehicles that go over that edge.
About the rope. Ascenders might be more useful when you are going back up again as basically you are hand over handing it so the ascender would slide up the rope with you and only grab when you slip back. You'll have to put it on a Prusik loop though. They work in pairs. A quick trip to a climbing wall could show you and your backup drivers how to use the gear.
You could probably rig up something that held the spool horizontal off the side of the truck so it would unroll as you pulled it out (eliminating coils) and would be convenient for rolling it back up when you are done.
Very interesting job and skill set you have developed. Take care and be careful. Great watching you work. Great editing BTW.

You might consider getting some shoes with cleats to help with the climb.

And I thought I was the only one who had to bust out the climbing gear for the job. As an electrician, I need to harness up and climb up poles, up and over equipment. Nice job.
