- In this video we will discuss a variety of hands-on techniques for growing and working with Myxomycetes. Slime molds have fascinated me since I had first learned about them and I hope that fascination rubs off on you too.

Amazing! Just found some (I think) growing under our hot tub and hoping it will become our Bio class pet. Thanks!
That's awesome! They are so fun to experiment with and watch! Good luck with your slime
Very interesting, all mycological inspiration is always appreciated.
Very professional 👍😊.
Thank you, and keep up the good work.
Mush love 😋
Thank you it was very interesting.
This is so cool the maze thing always astounds me. Like we can just have little fungus pets if we want and I love that
Why does the link to the product say it is not available is this just me or is it broken?
hmmm ....very interesting. 💚
I don't know when or why I subscribed to your channel, apparently I once watched your video before this about the AC, but I do not remember doing so at all. That aside, I'm glad I did, looking at your other videos I will surely watch all of them and enjoy every one. Thanks for the neat video! I have some oyster culture in a shoe box on agar, though I moved away for some time, so I wonder how it will be doing when I finally get back to it, it must be about one year since looking at it.
8:07 as a Rick and Morty fan, I absolutely lost it when you said shleem. Is that actually a real word? I tried googling it but only Rick and Morty comes up 😂
Everyone has a plumbus in their home.
So... What temp do they grow the best? Would an atmosphere with enriched O2 make them more or less active?
Where can i get the bright orange slime?
if you drill a 5/32" (4mm) hole in your lid the syringe filter fits perfectly & will not pop out.
you will need to give it a good push to fit it in the hole & drill a clean hole.
Does plastic expand and contract in the pressure cooker though? I thought I read that even if one drills the perfect holes in one's lids, it is still advisable to set syringe filters and rubber Self-Healing Injection Ports with RTV silicone to ensure no external air gets pulled in around the hole, rather than through the filter.
I could be wrong. I drilled many perfect holes in my lids and the SHIPs were incredibly snug, but I figured if they will contract too much when PCed, then I've defeated the purpose of making the lids in the first place... so I just went ahead and RTVed them all in.
So....I have been growing P. polycephalum for a while and continuing the culture. However, when I try drying it either on oats, paper, agar or card....NOTHING seems to come back to life. I have dried it multiple ways and tried several methods. Any idea what on Earth I am doing wrong?
How do I remove mold that appears on the oats?
And if I want to kill/ reduce Certain part of the mold so that it is not so large how would I do that?
Also how would u dispose of the slime mold when it done using a specimen and don’t want to make it dormant?
I have a terrarium and slime mold grew in there by itself
Do you have to change the petridish
Do you have to reply parafilm or can you use the same strip?
I reapply new parafilm, used parafilm doesn't stick well and tends to tear. But a roll of parafilm is fairly cheap and will last a very long time
The listing on Etsy is unavailiable now. Where should i buy it from now?

How do you sterilize oats?
You can pressure cook them in a mason jar with a tyvek filter glued into the lid with hi temp silicone.
How do I make sterilized oats?
It isn't strictly necessary to sterilize them, but if you want to reduce the rate of contamination, you can load the oats into a mason jar and pressure cook them. Drill a hole in the lid of the jar and glue a patch of Tyvek (USPS envelope material) wlusing high temperature silicone. This will keep the oats from getting saturated with water from the pressure cooker while letting them get to pressure and temp. 30 minutes at 15 psi should be enough.
Does dried out slime mold need air
Since it's a dormant state, they shouldn't. But I seal the sclerotia in petri dishes with parafilm, which breathes. So it won't hurt
Dont they consume bacteria growing on the oats more than the actual oats?
No they eat the oats themselves, after they finish with one, there is usually just a tiny remnant. They are generalists though, so they'll eat most bacteria as well. Myxos especially enjoy eating fungi too.
Can they be dangerous to humans?
No, slime molds are not dangerous or pathogenic to humans
If you have allergies maybe remember your immune system can overreact to anything that gets inside your body
Well, but if I don't want to buy the kit?, and grow a wild mold I found? Then this video won't be very useful..
The same principles apply. You would just start with a chunk of wood with a wild plasmodium on it
