As someone who grew up on a farm in the Australian bush middle of nowhere. The scariest line in this film is when Mickey asks "Where are all the animals, how have we not seen any for two days".
No matter where you go in the bush there's always birds or lizards or whatever. If you're somewhere all the animals avoid... you're in the wrong place. The animals know, they live out here.

Every time I watch this film, I see or hear something new. I had not heard Mike say that but it makes a lot of sense that the animals are the first to know/first to go.

Remember what the old man said near the beginning? He said the killer would make one child stand in the corner and listen as he killed the other child first. The witch did this too.
And remember when those two guys fishing said the witch carried away the bodies of five men? The witch is very strong. So the witch knocked Mike down, then picked him up and stood him in a corner so he would hear it kill Heather first.

I also think the cracking sounds in the night from all directions was the witch rearranging the forest around them so they could never actually leave no matter how long they walked in a straight line.

Biss you get points for pointing out that when lost in the forest, find a stream and follow it because people are always around water and when you reach other people you can figure out how to get back to the car. This was before everyone had cellphones with GPS maps, but the physical map they had could have helped them more if they were marking their path on the map as they progress. At least they mentioned that after a certain point in time people would realize that they were missing and would hopefully start a search. It's important to tell someone where you're going, how long you intend on being gone, and where you're leaving your car so they have a point to start the search. If you don't know anyone in the area, you can write all of this down on a piece of paper and leave it face down on the dash so a police officer can find it when searching your car. It also establishes a beginning for the timeline. We also know that Josh was a smoker, so he had a means of creating fire. It was Fall given the lack of leafs on the trees. They could, as a last ditch effort, start one hell of a fire. Humans have a tendency to go and investigate when there's a big fire out in the middle of nowhere. Not only do you stay warm that way, but you also send up a column of smoke for would-be-rescuers to follow to you.
This movie sparked a lot of conversations about what to do when lost in the woods, and lots of kids got a crash course in what do to. The fact that you already knew to follow a body of water was awesome. Many don't even know that step. I'm glad you reacted to this movie.
Biss, why don't you make a video where you tell us some scary stories you've heard while growing up in Romania!? I bet people would love to hear them!

  • @zammmerjammer

This movie taps into our primal fear of being hunted.
Anyone complaining that "we never see the witch" -- a good predator remains unseen. Humans can mount a defense against a predator we understand, when we know its size and capabilities (doesn't mean we'll win but at least we can try something). A predator that is relentless and unknown -- that is a fear going back to even before caveman times.
Ironically, the people who sneer at this movie for being "boring" or "dumb" are exactly like our three doomed student filmmakers -- they've been living in the city too long and are too naive to even IMAGINE that something brutal and deadly could happen to them.

The 90s was the decade of the Indie Film with the advancement of technology that was affordable, and the explosion of the video stores, both the big guys like Blockbuster and the Mom & Pop stores, where almost anyone could get their movie on the shelf. This one did have a limited theatrical release, but word of mouth turned it into a phenomena. Blair Witch was the local Indie film maker's fantasy come true.

This movie gets me pretty good. They do a good job at making you feel isolated, and then ramping up the tension as everyone starts to break down. In film, not seeing the antagonist can be far more horrifying than seeing them, because your imagination takes over.
This movie was a massive success. 60,000$ budget returned almost 250million. It spawned the 'found footage' style of filmmaking. Even if someone does not enjoy the movie, those stats are worthy of some respect.
It absolutely got inside of the heads of many people around here. When it came out, everyone was talking about it.

I was a little kid when this movie came out and this was the very first found footage film and it scared the shit out of everyone. Some people sent condolences letters to the cast members family they thought it was so real.
I feel like this would be a hard movie to react to because you really need to watch it in silence to let it draw you in and make you feel like you are there and everyone is doomed with no escape. There’s also a ton of little clues and Easter eggs hidden within the movie.
The TH-cam channel Film Theory had a really interesting theory that the whole thing was an elaborate plan by the two guys to murder the girl. You should watch that now.

It wasn't the first found footage, but it was definitely a stepping stone in the genre. A previous landmark would be "Cannival Holocaust", considered to be real to the point that director Ruggero Deodato ended up in court, and, though not technically found footage, in a similar vein, BBC's "Ghostwatch" messed people (including myself) up big time in 1992.

As you probably figured out the movie is more about what we the viewers don’t see and the idea that we won’t ever know what happened to them. I was one of the poor souls that had trouble watching this back then simply because it gave me motion sickness from it being all on a shaky, hand held camera. The fans of this movie liked it because of how real it felt and how the tension and fear comes from not knowing what is stalking them and the way the characters reacted to the fear by arguing and going kinda crazy. The horror fans that didn’t like this movie hated it for much of those same reasons. If you’re a slasher movie fan then you might hate a movie like this because we don’t actually see anyone get killed. If you’re a classic horror movie person you may hate it because we never see the “monster”. I’ll give it credit for its making phony “found footage” thing marketable. Other films tried doing that for a few years afterwards.

Saw this film in 1999 when it was released at a very small, out of the way theater north of Nashville, TN with a friend. There were probably less than 20 people in attendance. I had already seen "Curse of the Blair Witch" on the Sci-Fi channel and it had peaked my interest. It inspired so many later films that its importance can't be underestimated, regardless if you liked it or not. Obviously it was originally inspired by earlier films, but its impact was far greater than those based on the hype surrounding it. I enjoyed this reaction, but to be honest I think I only watched the movie once or twice on DVD because I had purchased it upon release.

      @nocrot1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I would agree with that, but what explains what happen with what sounded like kids laughing and them being chased? Heather even screams "what is that!?". Meaning she saw something that she couldn't explain. If I add in what we know from the true sequel(The Blair Witch),[SPOILER] I'd say she might have seen the same tree like monster that was in that movie.
The Blair Witch movie kind of explains a little of what's going on.[MORE SPOILERS] The characters think that the witch has powers over a given space. In this case, the woods. And the witch can manipulate the time and space of the woods. What the three of them were hearing at night was the topography changing. It was the trees snapping as the land was shifting. Which is why they seemed to be going in circles. They were following the same direction on the compass, but that does no good if the witch can just change the topography.

    Love the sweater 👍🏻
One guy earlier was telling how kids were taken two by two. One kid was made to stand facing the corner. That may give an explanation as to why Mike was doing that. -shrugs-

I live in Maryland and it was before the internet was common. We used encyclopedias. They had missing posters all over Baltimore for them. Watched the mockumentary that we thought was real. Saw it in the theaters oh no the only movie that has ever scared me because the promotion was so good

Something else: At the end IS HEATHER who has the camera and she is kind of close to Mike. The thing is that Mike's camera has a mic so her voice is coming from the basement. Her voice sounds even louder than it should when she finally found him because of the echo in Mike's camera

This movie gives a good scare but when i saw it in the theater i got nauseous from the camera moving quickly thru tre trees giving me motion sickness !🤮 Great reaction Biss! Loved the documentary style of the movie. Loved how biss was telling them not to touch the ornaments in the trees then... Oh your f#*@kd! Haha good advise! Luv ya Biss ❤️💛

Good choice Biss. One of my favourite horror movies.
The beauty of this movie is how it scares with the unseen. You are given enough information to know they are in danger but not what is hunting them and how it manifests. There are a good number of different theories that you can read about online that are quite interesting.
To answer your question about sequals; there are a couple but both are quite bad and. as far as I can recall, don't reference the first movie much or at all.

The Blair Witch Project movie budget was initially between $35,000 and $60,000 with an eventual worldwide box office of just over $248 million. Nearly 25 years later, The Blair Witch Project budget and profit return have kept the film as one of the most profitable horror flicks ever.
After finishing shooting the movie, they returned there DV cameras to the store for a refund. That is how tight the budget was...

By this time I saw this in theaters, I'd heard it wasn't real. But nothing like this had ever been done before back then, not to this scale. Missing Persons posters of the characters were used to market the movie. There was even a website about the "case", which made it seem more official because the internet was still new. The actors never appeared in public until the premiere. All this put together made you wonder: what if this is real?
The closest real life thing to this would be the two Dutch girls that went missing in Panama in 2014. The leg bones of one was found, and so was her camera. The first photos were just of them hiking, but then there's a weird series of night photos, some taken looking up at the sky. Nothing scary, no strange figures in the back. But knowing that these two girls were in the pitch-back middle of nowhere, alone and probably scared to death, and one was found dead, you feel like "omg what if this ever happened to me?" The psychology behind that fear is what makes this movie scary.

Definitely you should watch the reboot version of this or whatever they want to call it or prequel sequel Blair witch one that's the newest one it gives you somewhat of an explanation and then the Blair witch books of shadows is pretty good too for a sequel but the ending of this first one Man you jumped it got you a bunch of times😂😂😂 I love this movie because of the desperation towards the end for each character they all go through a character arc especially the girl explaining how scared she is at the end of the movie in that scene or she's apologizing saying it's her fault officially she's so scared to close her eyes or keep her eyes open phenomenal acting in this movie The ending is such a good plot twist cuz it leaves it to the imagination of what you assume happened to everybody❤

My conclution about this and I don't know if you share: There is something "weird" in the forest because of the myth but people keeps forgetting about Rustin Parr. He was sent to the gallows for this, the police found out seven kids buried around his cabin. For me the murderer of the movie is a creepy guy following Parr's legacy.
There is a mini fragment of an interview:
Police: "Do you think that the voice of the woman in your head telling you to do this was the Blair Witch"
    Parr: "Maybe it was".

Just early in your video 3:24. You keep commenting how "real" it feels. I saw the TV Show mocumentary they did before I ever saw the movie. I also saw the movie by accident, my girlfriend and I had free movie passes to see The Astronauts Wife and they had technical issues so the entire movie theatre saw "this movie" and it scared the Hell out of us. It started the type of Marketing they sometimes use today. I honestly bought this hook like and sinker up until an awards ceremony where the 3 cast members presented. This is just one spooky movie and if you hand those sticks out somebody's camp site they still have a bad day... Thanks for giving this horror movie some love!

Nice to met Jimmy skeleton, that movie was an innovation in terror movies, love your reaction as usual Miss Bisscute💓💓💓💓. For future reactions in Halloween please🙏 react to the movie: "Lost Boys" (1987) and also "The Frighteners" (1996), both of wich offer a "comic horror" that i know you will like. As a Mexican fan of your channels, i don't know if you are familiar with our tradition of the "Day of the Dead" wich is celebrated on November 1st and second. For those days, I recommend you react to the movies: "Coco" and a classic in Black and white ( with subtitles) called: "Macario (1960) first mexican movie nominated to the oscars. You will surely like it 😉👍😁

I watched this opening night in the theater and it was good at the time. Now I find it kinda boring after a few times seeing it. There was a huge media blitz at the time claiming it was 100% real, so excitement was high in the audience. I remember thinking as things start to go south, if I were there I’d just start a huge forest fire. I know you’d be in lots of trouble afterward but better to be rescued and face some charges than be hunted by some supernatural force while starving. If you start a big enough fire, someone is gonna come investigate lol

First ever found footage movie and done SOOOOO well. Just COMPLETE dread. No jumpscares, not monsters. Just being place there in the characters' terror as the witch fxcked with them. Mattpat of the game/film theorist even made an awesome theory that it was all a plot by Mike and Josh to scary & kill heather then frame it on the witch since (in universe of the film), they all disappear.
