    Tips on how to remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve and glow plugs on a 2007 ford mondeo 2l diesel 140 bhp engine. The exact same engine shown in this video can be found in a 2005 Volvo S40 2.0d. Volvo calls it the D4204T, and used it in the 2.0D C30/S40/V50 range from 2004 to 2012 with only a few minor differences .. The same engine is in the Peugeot 407 2.0HDi and the Ford Focus/C-max 2.0tdci

    Excellent video. Thank you. Two points I found-
    the corrugated pipe on the egr has a clip that had to be removed to allow removal of the egr.
    also the missing bolt in the bottom of the egr on this video is an m5 Allen bolt.
    The Allen bolt wasn't accessible with a standard Allen key, so a low profile or modified Allen key was needed. The bolt doesn't have to come all the way out as it clamps the egr in a slot, just loosen enough and slide out.
    I love your videos and can't begin to tell you upw useful they are.

    I just did this today on my 2010 ford focus tdci lv. It has 235k kms and never had the glow plugs changed. Definitely well over due. Thankfully being from Australia we don't get the crazy cold some of you do. So with a few cycles and a little more kick from the starter its managed good so far. However I after a few forums and your video I decided to give it a crack, since here Labor for this job is well over $600. Let me tell you, I definitely found out why. Plus the our mechanics don't guarantee the plugs won't snap.
    I made sure to take my time, and did the job over 2 days.
    I now know why the bottom bolt is missing, it was pain to get it out. 🤣
    While I did the glow plugs I gave the egr system a good clean.
    Do I recommend this? Yes only if you have some mechanical skills and proper tools. But super risky. Good luck to all.

    I'm mechanic, but not a car mechanic. I noticed that my Mondeo had blown glow plugs and it had had few errors from egr. I originally though that I'd do it myself, but when I noticed where all they are. I pretty much immediately reserved time for car mechanic that did both of them at the same time. I strongly suggest same to all, unless you have very good equipment and good place to work :)

    I made it myself, if you warm up the engine, put some lubricant the previous day and do it with a lot of care, you would not have any problems. It is risky but you can save a bunch of money. Then put cooper past to make it easier for next time...

I measured it on cold engine it was 380 psi on three cylinders and 340 on last one, do you think it’s ok or i have a problem in one cylinder? thank you for answer and nice videos about that cars

    Your right being at the back of the engine that looks a absolute pig of a job to change because I would imagine the access underneath isn’t great so your probably working from uptop in a awkward position across the engine bay and hurts your knees and back been there a few times on other vehicles.

    Hi ive got the head gasket to do on my 2.0 tdci 2007 galaxy whilst in the car. I was thinking about removing the black turbo pipe. But as access is so hard. Was thinking about removing the bolts from the exhaust manifold to the turbo. 1 above and 2 from below. What do u reckon ?

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, those three nuts that hold the manifold to the turbo look an ass to remove in the car....i think it would be easier to remove the turbo still bolted to the manifold...funny thing is...my next video which should be out later today is removing the turbo lol...you read my mind

      The wet clutch Powershift transmission on the Mondeo seems to be a whole lot more reliable than the dry clutch Fiesta one. Change the oil and filter every 40,000kms and it shouldn't give you too much trouble 👍

    Amazing video!And I think only one on TH-cam.Would love to replace glow plugs on my Volvo. Same engine.The car has 140k miles on the clock and I doubt that they where changed ever.Max what I have done on that side of the engine is EGR has been removed( without cooler) for cleaning purpose.Should I risk?Resistance 0,7 Ohms on all plugs.

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if they are all working and the car is starting fine i would leave them alone lol

    • @nemocap2958
      @nemocap2958 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank Alan!Most likely I won't risk))However,good resistance not always a sigh of well working glow plugs!Glow plugs are almost always on when ignition is on despite of common opinion that modern diesel don't need a glow plugs up to -2,-5 degrees..I tested on me engine and with coolant temperature +46 degrees,plugs were on for 7 sec.I m afraid to think how they look like after 10 years of constant use even having a good resistance.

  • @radulescu21

    Do these give an error or something if they're on their way out? Just got a mondeo with 170.000km and they were never changed. Currently is starts right away from 0 degrees, but after sitting overnight in about -5 or lower, it would need to crank it 2 times in the morning. 2 normal short cranks that is, as I don't insist on the starter if it doesn't want to start right away. 2nd try fires right up. Does this sound about right for these diesels in negative temps?

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sounds perfectly fine, diesels don't like the cold

    • @ciogon
      @ciogon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the hard part of this job is that stupid allen bolt below the egr..this engine doesnt have it.,.because someone was smart before and didnt put it back...and that bolt can be removed only WITH A SPECIAL MINI MINI WRENCH...and the plugs are identified by "finger feel"..i did it by feeling with my hands(im a motorcycle mechanic..)..a little tip for you guys is to put penetrating oil on every plug with 1-2 days before the day you remove them..drive the car and the oil will penetrate the threads...and second tip ALWAYS DO THIS WITH WARM ENGINE...so the aluminium head will be expanded...and dont screw this up.."because you will be in a world of shit...":)))
