Connie Francis is one of the most gifted female singer of all time. She has such a tragic life, But always continued to entertain everybody. She deserve to be in the RRHOF. No Ifs, Ands, Or Buts. She inspired so many female singer of today.
Yet the female singers of today never give her a big thank you...

Connie had a beautiful voice and she was a really big star in the 1950s and early 1960s. I love that Wings of Pegasus always bring back the greats like Connie to young people who may not be familiar with her and other golden oldies.
So sad that Connie had such a difficult life after 1970, but she’s still going which is fantastic.
I agree. I'm so glad my Parents exposed me to their music and my older Sister exposed me to her music. In each generation ,there's some great music ,that's timeless.

She was huge from 58 to 64 chart wise but fell only due to MGM not promoting her on purpose. They hated how she was in control of her contract and career. They screwed her. The Beatles can't take up the whole chart. They could be #1 and she be at #2 to 100. That's my point!!! Lol people gotta remember that and know that MGM sucks. They are controlling and are ungrateful. She was still all over the tv and putting out amazing music and much of it was way better than the hits. ☺
Connie could sing anything. Incredible voice. One of the best ever in popular music.
I've always said Connie had a cry in her voice and no one does vocal breaks like she does. It's many times better to see her sing songs live rather than listening to the recording. She puts so much feeling into her songs and it's great to actually see it.

Connie still around in South Florida. I've seen her out and about on occasion and my mother and her worked shows together as vocalists.. Big voice and plenty of hits.
Who is/was your Mother? I've seen Connie in concert over 200 times, and have been to her home in Florida.

Hi Rory I am so sorry to hear about your mom passing away. Remember that we are souls in these bodies. The body is the temple and it ages and dies. You will see her again when it's time. Your mom was the singer of the Ted Lewis Band 1955 to 1960.. Where can we all hear the songs? Is there CDs? I can't find anything online. Your mom was a beautiful woman, I saw the obituary🌹Rip. It's very cool that she spent time with Connie and vice versa. 👍

she averaged 7 LP's each year, which is unheard off even today. 80 albums 1958-1970 US only... 3000 songs That video you see here is from the PATTI PAGE SHOW in 1958.
Connie Francis is one of those singer who people overlook but she was a great singer.
Older generation like me I remember all her records but what is missed is she is a truly great singers. The current generation rate hear a voice like hers. Only singers like Celine Dion, Barbara S, and KD Lang are better in the last fifty years.
She was never overlooked or underrated. In the late 50,s and early 60,s Connie Francis was one of the biggest names in music and sold millions of records. I still have several albums.
I had the pleasure of meeting Connie , she was my girlfriend’s roomate in a well known “ rehab” in New Jersey. She was clearly medicated, but she was a total sweetheart and sang songs for me. The experience broke my heart. Nice people suffer the most sometimes.

Always loved Connie's ability to achieve both vibrato and crying tone, somewhat nasal to her voice. In addition to the fact that she can hold a note like no other. Amazing artist. Love her always..

Connie Francis, the one of original pioneer woman of Rock and Roll. No one had her style and people forget how popular she was. Like some artists of her time, sidetracked by great tragic personal issues. Thanks for recognizing her she should never be forgotten

I was so happy to see that you did a reaction to Connie Francis. I was just a little 5 year old girl in 1958 when I first remember hearing her sing. I watched Dick Clark's American Bandstand with my teenage sisters then and acquired an appreciation for lots of different entertainers at a young age. Lipstick on your Collar was one of my fave Connie songs. LOL What a pretty lady. My older brother brought something up a few years ago which I find is terrible. With all those hits she is still not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Unbelievable.

I love your analyst of Connie’s voice and vibrato! She has the ability to express emotion that no other singer can do! She came up with style and sound when her dad forced her to record “Whos Sorry Now”, she didn’t want to record it, so she sang it with some attitude because she didn’t care, and as a result developed her own sound.
I’m confused on where you got the chart numbers for her hits in USA, because “who’s sorry now” “stupid Cupid” “lip stick on your collar” and “where the boys are” were all number 1 songs for her here in the states.
She had a nose job done in the late 60’s, and when she sang in buildings with air conditioning it affected her voice and she couldn’t sing well...after her rape and attack she was getting ready to go back out and tour again, but had surgery as you said to repair this condition which as a result left her without a singing voice for about 5 years. The drs miss diagnosed her as Manic depressive for decades, which affected her quality of life and career, to keep her level she had to be on lithium, but to sing she had to cycle off the lithium so she could have emotion and control to sing, and when she did that, you never knew what connie you would get, if she was on a high it wasn’t a fantastic concert, if it was a low, she just didn’t care what she sounded like or would cancel shows. It wasn’t until the last decade the drs rediagnosed her as suffering from PTSD, from the rape/attack she had back in the 70’s...and is now much more healthier mentally now that she’s being treated for the right disorder.
She’s an amazing artist that has been forgotten and looked over so many times. The emotion and feelings she expressed in her music was always compared to Judy Garlands abilities!

Thank you for this, I was introduced to Connie in hi-school. My industrial arts teacher was a big fan of hers and this song was one of his favorites of hers. I've been an avid fan since 1984, what a great time.

I wish you'd analyze Brenda Lee. She was known as Little Miss Dynamite. "I'm Sorry" was her signature song. "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" was her biggest hit which she recorded at 13 years old.

She did cover that tune, but it was originally done by Brenda Lee. Be sure to catch her version. I believe she was only 16 when she recorded it, and it was her signature song.

I love this woman! What a voice! I was 5 years old and remember her! How old were u when the “Gonnies” came out...? What a tragic life she had to live after becoming a success! What the world missed when she was horrifically attacked. Now tell me, isb’t this a perfect and natural voice with beautiful vibrato and diaphragm singing. What a voice...listen to her crescendos! And her perfect vowel enunciation! Love ur show Fil! My era!
I'm so glad you spotlighted this incredible singer, the greatest of her generation. She really epitomized that "crying tone" that you described so well, that kind of romantic Italian sound that nobody did better. I just wish you would have used a higher quality vocal track than this one, so I'm taking the liberty to attaching two more of her videos so everyone can hear her tremendous range if that would be alright, Fil (but I believe that this video was of her actually singing LIVE if I'm not mistaken, very rare for TV). Connie is still alive, now 82-years old today, having had a very tragic life in spite of her stellar success. I hope that she realizes just how many people still love and admire her.

I was born in 1962. So I had to stop and listen and I discovered her range and style and winsome quality. I love how she sings in different languages. Classics appeal to all generations. And anyone who appreciates stellar pipes and touching vocals will appreciate her. Her Neapolitan medley is one my favorites.

My grandfather had a Connie Francis LP, and as I grew up I got to love her voice. Same goes for Dinah Shore. The variety of these analyses is terrific.

One of my favorites. I saw her in concert about 14 years ago. She was having a little trouble with her voice, and she said so.
It's always reassuring and exciting to hear a singer or guitarist or anyone who you know for sure has a ton in reserve. No point in starting strong with nowhere left to go. Even at the end here it sounds like Connie still has a couple of gears in hand if she needs 'em.

Ah, Connie Francis, one of a kind. I was eight when this came out, joined my family then and began to get exposed to 'radio' music. I love how my parents used to love those old performers and how that love passed down to the children, all of us I believe. I wonder why though, the same thing didn't happen with our children and today's younger generation. My tastes, and a lot of my generation (I'm 70) are very eclectic ranging from classical right up to date whereas modern tastes appear to be very limited in their timespan. You Fil are an amazing exception!

Wow - she had a scholarship to med school and her father prefered that she stay in the music business, don't hear that too often. I hadn't heard of her troubles in the 1970's and 80's, absolutely tragic and a testament to her strength of character that she managed to come back from that.

Hi Fil! I still have my old Connie Francis stereo albums! I adore her! She was a big part of my youth! What a gorgeous voice! She was in love with Bobby Darin back in the day...that was a big deal then! Thanks so much for doing one of my favorite singers! I will always treasure my old records of hers! Saved them all! ✌️
Albums? What are those?? Just kidding. I still have mine, by the dozen. Did you know that those old records actually sounded better than any of the "high tech" CDs of today?? Yup. You can't beat the old analog recorded music for sheer beauty and depth.

Did you know that vinyl records are making a big comeback? They have ever since people realized that when they began digitalizing music, that they only managed to "sample" only a portion of the actual recording, losing much of the "warmth" and beautiful overtones and undertones that were lost in the process. These guys actually spend tens of thousands of dollars on this "new" old equipment that we used to know and love. So, enjoy!

I am a huge fan of the ladies of the 50s and 60s. This song "Where's the Boys Are", "My Happiness" (which is my favorite Connie Song), Patsy Cline, and Kay Starr are 3 of the voices I've modeled my own after, especially Patsy.

On the flip side of her 45, 'Lipstick on Your Collar' was a song called 'Frankie'. That was and still is my favorite song of hers. I was about 10 yrs old and had a crush on a neighbor boy named Frankie. My parents wouldn't let me play with him. BTW, American Bandstand was a great treat after school every day!

I saw an old interview of hers a long time ago where she said Bobby Darren was the love of her life until her backstage manager father pulled a shot gun out and told Bobby he was not going to let him ruin his daughter’s career by running off with him when she was starting to make it big. Bobby went away and subsequently met and married actress Sandra Dee.
Wow, I never gave any thought to Connie's technique and skills singing this old standard. There are probably many singers and songs that I need to listen to again. Thanks for that. Would you look at Etta James singing At Last? There is a live version from 1993 Ross and Roll Hall of Fame Induction . It may not be from her prime years, but she could still sing.

I remember reading that she was the top selling female artist worldwide until Madonna came along. I know she recorded in 15 languages. But, I'll be damned if I can find anything that says she was the top selling female artist now when I look. Darn it. Where the Boys Are was my fav by her.
