Donna Loren was the one-and-only "Dr Pepper Girl" from 1963 to 1968. She was signed to a long-term contract with the soft-drink company to sing all television and radio commercials, do all magazine and billboard advertising representing them in every capacity, sometimes sharing the spotlight with American Bandstands Dick Clark. This relationship led to her touring in Dick Clarks Caravan of Stars with other popular acts like The Supremes and singing solos in the popular Beach Party films starring Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. Later, she became the starring female vocalist on the popular 60's American live rock n roll TV show "Shindig" as well as appearing in various singing and acting roles in popular TV shows like Batman, Gomer Pyle, The Mothers-In-Law, Red Skelton, Milton Berle. This commercial was one of the first of many filmed in Chicago by Grant Advertising. Dr Pepper's ad agency chose to place the product in five of the iconic Beach Party movies which gave Donna an opportunity to be seen in those films, helping her to rocket to stardom. Ironically one of the songs from the film Beach Blanket Bingo called "So, Do the Zonk", is carried over as a theme in the Dr Pepper commercials as the animated character always exclaiming ZONK! Her years with the company posted Dr Pepper's largest sales gains in their history to that time. Donna has released over 22 singles, an LP, 5 CD's and has been featured in numerous compilations. I think Donna Loren is one of kind!
Your very welcome
I taught Donna everything she knows about Dr. Pepper. 😊
Love those cowboy boots she's wearing!
The trumpet was very popular in commercials and music in the mid sixties. You seldom hear it in anything now.
The trumpet segments in these Dr. Pepper commercials is very influenced by Al Hurt's song "Java". Or maybe Al recorded these himself - ?
I remember getting soda out of the machines in bottles, then poping it open from right there on the machine with the bottle opener. And it came with real sugar not corn sweeteners.
