But I think the writers now hope to try and end it on a cliff hanger to generate even more demand for a second season. Like the Gavin and Stacey recent special. The problem is though when it doesn't get renewed the ending becomes a mess and can sometimes even ruin a film or TV show if you can't land the right ending. Sanditon made this mistake, they were so determined to generate interest in another season that the finale was just so abrupt and disappointing. Nothing really getting resolved and major characters just disappear.
