Kevin, I love your apartment! That actually looks very cozy and homy, especially the bed! You know how hard the bed in China is hahaha. Something about your genuine personality that always keeps me coming back to your channel. I, too live in China, have a full time job, lived nomadic life prior to that and try to post TH-cam videos weekly. I can relate so much to your latest video "How I Make Money Travel Abroad." Daily vlogs would be lovely! Keep it up, Kev!
Thank you for actually taking the time to reply and respond to each one of us! I myself even havent been able to keep up with people's comment. Looking forward to your vlogs. Let me know what I need to improve on my content. That'd be really helpful and appreciated. Thank you Kev!
I appreciate hearing about the non-material lifestyle you have. I live in Mesa, Arizona. Im a single father 51, with two sons that live w me full time, ages 11 and 19. I have had them for 9 years this year...it was not until recently that I began to become happy with what little i had...when i bagan to recognize my accomplishment in the energy i invested into my kids as they are turning out to be AMAZING people. My lack of material things a huge house and huge bank account made me streesed...not any longer.. i noticed my change of hear of the last couple of years as i began to want to move to Idaho or Washington and to build a small house and to build a self-sustaining lifestyle with the ultimate goal of living somewhere in Asia when i retire (hopefully at age 57) Im going to travel to Shanghai, smaller towns in Thailand, and the Philippines and then make a decision on a place to live half-time. Who knows maybe ill meet somebody too. Your apartment makes me appreciate my $800 per month (all utilities included), 2 bedroom apartment in a city that has THOUSANDS of apartments for over $1600 a month......i used to say every day when i first moved here 2 years agothis month, that i despise this s-hole.....now im glad I stayed because in saving money ans getting ready to buy my first truck for my trucking business (im a truck driver). This business will allow me to take my job with me when i move to Washington! Im grateful to see a young man who is also grateful. . .and be glad you dont live in the usa right now...we are a land of fat, lazy thinking, isolated almost coddled people whose minds are addled with mind numbing patriotism, xenophobia and unseen state dependancy.....we in many ways are a sinful and yes even evil people.....universe help us all.
Oh wow. I live in Taiwan, and I thought my studio apartment was small lol. Living in a small space is good for me because I used to hoard a lot of things in my bedroom when I lived in the US. I've managed to significantly keep my level of accumulated junk down. My apartment is also in an ideal location: it's around the corner from 2 busy streets that's full of great food options and everything I need (like groceries, pharmacy, medical clinics, etc). and it's a 15min walk from work. I also get free lunch at my job (which is a good thing because I eat a lot lol), so I can save a lot of money in a month if I'm not traveling/doing a lot of outings.
I just moved to Shanghai. I chose an apartment in the French concession that costs 3800RMB but is a little larger. The building is very dirty, dingey and sticky but apartment is nice, bright, and clean. I can hear my neighbors washing dishes and the baby crying. I've spent the last 3 days acting spoiled and crying over how I'm scared I can't adapt. You're right though, we are fortunate to even have a space to call our own. I am thankful I saw your video. A lot of my colleagues are living in modern, large apartments and I was feeling like I made a bad decision. However, I know I am privileged to even have shelter at all. Cheers.
You're right to feel a little upset about the ruckus. At times it'll be tough Erika. I've since upgraded to an even larger apartment in the same neighborhood and I still hear my neighbors and sometimes get frustrated. But at the end of the day, we're both blessed and ya can't forget that. Cheers
The way you reasoned that many families live in a space like this and its all you need- made me question my lifestyle and made me feel humbled. what a great guy!!!!!
More vlogs of daily life please, you're very pleasing to watch. Especially with how humble you are. Keep it up! Saw one of your videos last year on facebook and decided to bingewatch all your $20 videos all morning!
Man, i've been following your channel for a while and i've got to say your attitude towards life is something really inspirational. Watching your videos always boosts my mood, no matter on what topic it is. Cheers from Hangzhou!
Loved this!! I often complain about not having enough space, yet you have far less & you're still living the life!!! Awesome. Heading to Shanghai in April, then Beijing.
Videos of local sights and scenery along with food would be good. You have money yet you live simple and that is the mark of a good caring person.Keep it up.
Kevin, I’ve enjoyed all your videos. I went to china and have shared a lot of your feelings about the country. Being in another country allows one to learn another culture and their own at the same time. I didn’t realize my American habits / ways of thinking until I went to china. It was a great learning experience that I think many people would benefit from if they had the opportunity/open mindedness to do so. Thanks for your content!
Hello , my friend! I am moving to Shanghai at 1st of May and I am so excited! I love your video and great speech and presentation! You look like in general you love your life there and this gives me courage!
Glad to see you starting to vlog again you can post anything you want. You are very correct about living below your means that is why most people in the US have nothing and live from paycheck to paycheck. It is much more comfortable to live below your income and have a cushion if you need it helps when you are getting ready to retire also........
Love your gratefullness it's really inspiring. I would love to see a average day in your life, like what your eating and just seeing a bit of Shanghai!
You have a great apartment being so close to the city is awesome. I'd watch daily Vlogs of your life it would be interesting to see how you live and shop and even do laundry. Thank you for the tour.
You are so lucky to find such a nice tiny studio in the center of Shanghai. Hope I can also find a studio like yours when I go back to China. I’m Chinese btw.
I'm doing my master's thesis in Shuzhou and will probably visit Shanghai a few times. So if you could make some videos about what you enjoy doing in Shanghai (and other areas around ofc) that'd be cool! :)
Your place looks a lot like the Airbnb I'm staying at in Vietnam right now and to my surprise, I really don't miss having such a big place (as I thought I would) I've realized I like not having so much shit cluttering up my place and living in such a cozy area makes you really appreciate just having the basic necessities to live. Cool video and I think next time I get an apartment, I'd rather sacrifice living space for a good location (although in Hefei, there really was no good location anywhere, haha)
Yo Collin, didn’t mean to diss your apt in any way with the thumbnail pic! Thanks for commenting, and for making solid content that in some ways inspired this video.
yyi really like your cute little space in Shanghai. I think it is better than a lot of other sharing spaces in China. Would love to see some daily vlog of your actual realistic life in Shanghai, it's gonna be very interesting and eye opening even to a Chinese like I am. Jiayou!
Man you are really suited for Asian life! I am a local but I never get used to a small room for the sake of convienence. I really miss the big houses in US towns.
Hey dude, this was a great video! Please make more daily videos like this to show people what it's like for a foreigner to live in China. Cos' these videos show that anyone can do this and they too can go and live abroad. Very useful and interesting. Thank you.
Cool video. It gives a great look into your life while living there. It would be great to see if you do small vlogs around your neighborhood like cheap places where you like to go and eat, local events, bars, shops etc. Or just how you live your life there. Keep up the good work!
Place looks great dude and I totally appreciate your gratitude for it too! Who needs anymore than that anyway. Nice work bro! Any videos or vlogs sounds great too, maybe about different Shanghai neighbourhoods and the characters within? Cheers!
I lived in something similar years ago in all places France! Was a student, it was central and had a great view. Actually it had a sort of bunk bed as the bed was up in the air utilizing the historic high ceiling and the tiny bathroom not much larger then yours was under part of the bed and the rest overhung. Quite efficient use of space!
I remember when I was a student in South Korea and they had these really tiny study houses/rooms called "kosiwon" (고시원) which were specifically meant for students only. The rooms were so small, you could literally touch the opposite ends of a wall with your arms stretched out. And 1/4th of the bed used to be hidden right under the study table. Man, it was hard getting girls over! Glad I'm in the US now, so much easier. Have fun in Shanghai dude.
I live in Shanghai. I know how much it will cost to live in the city center. But I am so happy to see that you are so happy to be here in China. Hope you enjoy your life 🌅
Wow!! It's small but you're right, its got everything you need and in a great location! I live in Shanghai, in Jingan too and I'm paying about 1000rmb more for a four a bedroom shared apartment.
It looks like a very good deal. Actually many people dream of finding a place like this at the central areas of Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen.. For 500USD usually you can only find a shared house.
Very positive and good video! Great work. It makes me think my one bedroom apartment in South Korea is huge and to appreciate it more. I'd like to see more life in China videos. Their are only a handful of people doing that and it would be nice to have another perspective. Keep up the good work. Let me know if you ever wanna do a video in Jeju, South Korea.. ;)
vlogs about things you find interesting about shanghai and China in general!!! And maybe meet ups with your subscribers? I'd personally love to go haha
These apartments in such a great location like jinan are really expensive, always over 2 million dollars. So it's a good deal to rent such a worthwhile studio!
Can you do more vids on different living options and costs for people with different income levels. And also do vids on the daily life interactions with other people around you whereever you might be. Those are the types of vids that viewers like to see i think.
Nice small apartment, simble but great life, the dream of any artist,in a foreign country! You are a lucky guy. Live well, and cach the moment. Every moment of your simble but brilliant life. BRAVO!!!!!!!!
I love your apartment, and your philosophy. Most charming! I would love to hear more about how a Westerner copes with day to day life in Shanghai, China. Like, how do you find an apartment? How do you get all your daily needs met? Keep up the great work!
Very interesting video! Shanghai considered one of the most espensive city to live in China. It would be nice to vlog some Shanghai's grocery shopping at different price point. =)
Funny that you say that, I'm considering making the move from Beijing to Shanghai with a lot of expats telling me that Shanghai is soooo much more expensive. Clearly not if you go looking for it as I'm definitely paying a lot more than that in Beijing. Thanks for the info! This is great news! I know the area you may be living in isn't as convenient, bit you make a good point, it gives you more incentive to leave the house.
"A poverty of desire." I'm totally stealing that. Great attitude bro, keep it up.
If you borrow it from me, be sure to lend it to someone else!
Kevin, I love your apartment! That actually looks very cozy and homy, especially the bed! You know how hard the bed in China is hahaha. I pay 1500 for a 3 room apartment in Chengdu! wow I'm stunned by the difference in price! it's incredible how expensive Shanghai is!
Of course you can find a cheaper place than this. But it's a central studio, so it's a little steep
Helsic en China wow! So cheap! I pay 6000 for a 1 living room & 1 bedroom apartment in the heart of Beijing.
1500 RMB? Thats really cheap. Its quite cheap to live in chengdu yet you can still have the convenience of a big city.
I think where you lived is in outskirt of chengdu
Helsic en China yeah Shanghai is a tier 1 city, one of the more expensive cities in China.
Oh wow. I live in Taiwan, and I thought my studio apartment was small lol. Living in a small space is good for me because I used to hoard a lot of things in my bedroom when I lived in the US. Try to find some apartments along the metro lines , even it is not city center , you can easily arrive in 30 mins.
The way you reasoned that many families live in a space like this and its all you need- made me question my lifestyle and made me feel humbled. what a great guy!!!!!
"Poverty of desire" I love that. Keeping it simple, that is the path to true inner peace. ✌️
More vlogs of daily life please, you're very pleasing to watch. Especially with how humble you are. Keep it up! Saw one of your videos last year on facebook and decided to bingewatch all your $20 videos all morning!

Banana in oatmeal is amazing, tastes like a flapjack if you let it dry out a little and also caramalizes nicely.

Funny that you say that, I'm considering making the move from Beijing to Shanghai with a lot of expats telling me that Shanghai is soooo much more expensive.
