The first symphonic metal HIT in history; the song that changed everything... My suggestion for the next is "Land of Canaan", a 15 minutes masterpiece... Hail to the Masters!!!
I first heard this song in 1997, and on the very first note, I was hooked! Been a fan ever since. Off this same album (well, the whole album is amazing) but "In the Desert of Set" is just as epic as this one is. It's absolutely incredible.

The main lyricist Thomas Karlsson (shadow member of the band) is a founder of occult secret society Dragon Rouge, a left hand path magical order, I would say something between Setianism, Satanism, Qlippotic Qabalah, Germanic paganism, neo-hermeticism and Thelema, but features also Eastern Tantra and such lore also. It's whole another beast (not pun intended, but cool nevertheless) than Thelema, but builds on Thelema as one of the main influences. Most of their lyrics are written by Karlsson if not almost entirety of their catalog up until 2010 or so. He was however never included in music itself, he wasn't musician as a part of this project. Even through lineup changes he and his topics remained part of Therion's path and influenced sound also. Christofer of Therion is/was a practicing occultist with Dragon Rouge, not sure about other members and in which point in time is there any affiliation with the Order. As for musical side of it, I always liked them not just because their in-your-face occultism/mythological storytelling, I liked them because I found their music to mirror these tendencies, it sounds more dark and uplifting in some odd way then some other projects. This occult vibe is certainly there when you catch it, it locks in. I was into occult for number of years and I stumbled upon Dragon Rouge info but didn't assume these guys were members or indirectly connected somehow. You can also see from some of their stage presence and theatrics some occult connections. I saw them two times a decade or so ago, they were wearing full blown Baphomet masks on stage and they did carry some flags. To someone outside of this, this would look like proper cult ritual. :)
"Adulruna Rediviva" is one of my favorite Therion songs, from the album Gothic Kabbalah, it's a 13 minute track that takes you on a journey. I connect with the Hellenistic/gnostic reference on this album. "Schwarzalbenheim" from Secret of the Runes is another good one, you already heard "GInnungagap" from that album.
Therion open the gate for so many bands, they evolve from a traditional swedish death metal band to a symphonic gothic metal Project. But too many changes of band personal, this was the worst problem.
Firstable I heard the Song in a complation Clip of the Undertaker's History Reast in Peace Matches vs Yokozuna. That was played in the background music. Since then I love this First ever Symphonic Death Metal Band ever, Orchestra Line-up. Not Metallica, Dimmu Borgir

This one works far better when coupled with the preludium. Going straight into Mega Therion just doesn't have the same feel.
