The most creative band of all time. Can't believe they have not had massive world wide success. The diversity and incredible lyrical content of Sparks songs over a forty year period is unmatched. These guys are nothing short of musical genius's.
Just discovered them in 2023... They are absolutely amazing. After spending about 4 months absorbing their music, they are easily my favorite band. So glad I found them!
I've watched this video dozens of times - the tune(s) are a masterpiece this performance is superb and the original writing just outstanding - I have every album and song these guys have ever produced and in my opinion, they are on a par with the greatest songwriters and performers of all time - Long live Ron and Russell Mael
I was a Sparks fanatic when young teen still love them as I get closer to being an old fart!lol Propaganda and Kimono where unique albums full of humor beyond many to see!
I love the way that Russell seems to take a run up to each line! Fantastic work ( and play - pardon the intended pun) any day of the week. Did not think that I could love this band any more than I do.
Scary! Makes many of us feel VERY, VERY old... I begun in 1st grade the same year as they recorded 'Computer girl'... 😶 (Pre school, when I wrote the comment I thought 'Computor Girl' was from 1968, but it was actually recorded in January 1967!! I wasn't even in pre-school! But Ron was only to be 22 (Aug. 12th -45), and little Russell just over 18 (Oct. 5th -48) at that time 😂)
...what a surprise. While album shopping back in the days...stoned and had to have this album just because the cover was so bizarre. Only to find a rare gem, and soon had to listen to all their music. So to this day enjoy the musical genius, the fun and inventive songs.
This is among my favourite top three clips on TH-cam. Ever. Now that I've seen Them live for the first time in my life I realise that this is just standard Sparks procedure. This is what they do live. It's just perfect.
My favourite Sparks song(in case you were interested) Epic in its scope. Unpredictable and electric. A Little Beethoven, perhaps. They just had to better "This Town.." and they pulled it off.
My favourite too! And this live version is really an explosion of Sparks! The words, the music,, the story and the Voice. I keep listenining, again and again and again.
anmn sn saw them for the first time myself on Wednesday in London. they were better than I expected and you get tired just watching Russell, his energy levels are amazing. their backing band is great (check out the 6music festival vids to see them in action). have a nice time 😊
@@waltersobchak926, I saw them in Stockholm in June 2018. I HAD DROPPED DEAD after first half of the concert, and Russell just bounced on!! For another 50 minutes... THAT GUY TURNED 70 YEARS (old) YOUNG in October😲. It is said so, but I'm not sure if I believe that 🤔😉... 😰😰😰😰😰 (I am a bit more than 10 years younger than him)
Yes, this song was in existence before Talking Heads formed.. Let that sink in! Glam meets operetta meets new-wave in it’s most elemental from. A true and classic example of being ahead of your time!!
Ďakujeme za krásne hudobné umenie a zážitok, Thank You - Hello! 😃🇨🇿🇸🇰🍀
When you look at their entire scope of work Sparks just might be better than Queen. Well....that’s a pretty bold statement but Sparks’s career has been Way longer and still going strong. Queen, what have you done for me lately? 🎸
Awesome !!! I loved Sparks music in the seventees...and this video really took me back a lot of years.... Russel sings like in the good old days....Cheers to the u.l.
WOW!! Just So so WOW! Loved seeing you in NY. Now I'm at home, I have homework, at work and you were my only play.... heheheheheh You've got to catch her while she's still at home, You've got to catch her while she's at work, You've got to catch her while she's at play....
Yeah. "I saw it performed on the Kids ITV programme called Magpie, presented by Russell lookalike Mick Robinson... Who himself recorded out a one off album album around that period.. Video recorders were scarce then as i have never seen a copy of that performance.
Propaganda is one the greatest albums of all time
Gusdocs1 I agree, without doubt the most under rated album ever
+Gusdocs1 Sadly without Propaganda album there is almost nothing high quality from Sparks
MrSookonn I respectfully and vehemently disagree. _Kimono My House_, _Indiscreet_, _Angst in My Pants_, FFS.
Kimono My House, Propaganda, Indiscireet, No 1 in Heaven and Lil' Beethoven are all classics
+ Hippopotamus

The world is catching up. (Including me!)
Sparks is still the most underrated band of all time. They should be a household name.
They are in our house.
mine too ...
We could refer to their obscurity as "The Spark Gap". BTW, has anyone heard whether Morrissey's lightened up yet?
No! I like to keep them all too myself, only in my house 🤪🥰❤️
@@newtoy7791 Morrissey lightened up enough to have the Mael brothers as friends!
Those verses are one hell of a mouthful for only one, not-overdubbed voice. Impressive.
Those verses are a *mouthful*. Impressive.
Fantastic song. 1974 was a fantasic year for the Sparks and for us who liked Sparks.
Liked?? Like!!!
As many years.
They started awesome, 47 years ago, and get better and better……. 2017 world tour

what a fucking awesome band, these guys are musical legends
Perfect rendition. Russell's voice is even better now than it was in the 70's. Absolutely phenomenal musicianship.
This is a very dynamic song, it rocks, rolls, stops and starts,. Such a tight band and this is the. best version I've heard of this song.
Agreed 💯!!
What a fantastic performance of a complex song!
The two-guitar lineup just kills it!
….. and also the backing vocals. Very cool to hear the arrangement doing justice to the studio recordings.
Loved them in 74, & still love them today, have all their albums on vinyl and on my iPhone...Russell Mael is still so cool after all these years :0)
So is Ron. Just a little less scary 😁
How have I not seen this before. This is absolutely amazing!
Russel at 1.30! Man at work ❤️👍❤️
I love the way that Russell seems to take a run up to each line! Fantastic work ( and play - pardon the intended pun) any day of the week. Did not think that I could love this band any more than I do.
Yes he does! Well noticed.
Possibly the only band that sounds as good (if not better) as they did in their "prime".
(good lord this band is 50 years old)

"The Lord works in mysterious ways" 😂 😂
This song used to play at the ELDOPOP (1973/1978) a progressive Radio Station that doesn't exist anymore! Great to see they playing it.
What Russel does here is not possible. Oh my god. Live! Oh Russell!!!!
No 😲

Wow, what a great performance of two of my favourite Sparks songs!
Magnificent! Light years ahead of their time.
I love this video more than I can express, I watch it almost daily-
what a great song, what a great performance. I love Sparks!!, especially the '70s and the '00s stuff....
These guys were SOO ahead of their time, and strangely enough they still are !.
Time hasn't caught up with them or their music!
Wow... fantastic performance!
