As a Singaporean Buddhist, We take pilgrimage tour to Nepal and HYATT has been our number 1 choice for stays for 10 years. The hotel is so close to Boudha main stupa. Perfect for Dharma practitioners and pilgrims. Plus people from Himalayas - Tibetans, Newars, Sherpas, Tamang, Dolpa and Gurung make that locality very special.
Hi Kevin! I stayed in this hotel in 2009 with my family, and I am absolutely stunned how they managed to maintain the grounds, lobby, and restaurant so well after all these years, and the rooms as well. In that part of the world, it's really a struggle to do so.
90% people including me cannot afford to stay in hyaat . Thanks to these TH-camr for giving us experience of this thing 😊 Edit : Most people are foreigners so they can afford but average middle class nepali cannot afford this 😢
Stayed here in 2014, and loved this hotel and its excellent restaurant. There is a path from the rear of the hotel to the Boudanath Stupa in the Tibetan neighborhood - wonderful to have this spiritual enclave so close by. There is a lot to see in Kathmandu - several temple districts, the area at a tributary of the Ganges where cremations occur, a monkey refuge on a hilltop, and the "Kumari Gar", where the Nepalese girl venerated (for a few years) as a "living goddess" resides. Kathmandu is a short flight from Delhi or Varanasi, and well worth a visit even if you aren't going onward to the mountains.
Amazing value for money for the beautiful setting and comfort. We just stayed for 1 night in an awful 4**** hotel in The Netherlands next to the highway to the tune of €200,- excluding breakfast…. Can’t wait to return to the Far East! Thank you for the review 🙏🏼🤩
Yeah western Europe prices are still insane. Yesterday I booked an interior single room at an Ibis in Madrid simply becuase I refuse to spend $300+ on four star hotels lol.
Hi Kevin. It's me again. Post Script to my last comment on this review. I've just watched it again and paid a little more attention to it. You have certainly whetted my appitite for this hotel. I will probably stay here in 2027 and add a couple of day before my trek, acouple after my trek and a couple after my visit to Chitwan. It looks and sounds absolutely fabulous. You certainly do have a super job. Don't ever stop. Thank you🙃🙂❤
The best value hotel I've ever seen, you can pay more for a backpacker hostel in Australia. Other reviews saying the rooms are "dated" is bizarre, quality furnishings, everything works. Would they call the Dorchester dated?
Absolutely loving the Kangaroo route series! As an Australian, my parents flew Qantas to Europe during the days of 4-5 stops (Singapore, Bahrain, Rome, one other I forget, London), yet these days we're lucky to do one stop (and almost direct soon). Keep up the great work! My one question was regarding water safety, given Nepal's ongoing issues. Was the water at the property safe to drink, or was it bottled only?
Hyatt KTM is a local legend of sorts, still highly regarded among regular visitors and city elite. However, the nicest hotel in town atleast IMO is Dwarika’s - stunner of a place!
Urgh, now I’m going to have to fork out to visit Kathmandu to check out this hotel (and a new city and country). Got a few Hyatt points to play with so may be able to get a hotel freebie at least.
Hi. You will not be disappointed with Kathmandu. I am planning my 5th visit in 2027 to celebrate my 80th birthday. I haven't stayed at this hotel but have stayed at the Shangri La 3 times and Kathmandu Guest House twice. Had to stay at KGH after an expedition because UN had taken over Shangri La hotel as a base after the 2015 earthquake.
As always a great review. If I may make one quick comment about the format Kevin: the added interruptions to your recent videos (subscribe, follow this series , etc) do feel like they throw off the momentum. If I changed one thing, I would either keep them at the beginning or end.
I'm ok with it. He usually places it at the end of the "cold opening" . It feels like its in the right place, and is a good reminder. Because I like his videos a lot, I hit like at the beginning to get it out of the way. This channel is worth supporting.
Yes I can appreciate that. I’ll say that in shorter videos like this one, it inevitably feels more interruptive… but I’d be lying if I said that wasn’t kinda the point of putting it in the middle. More eyes and ears = more subscribers = more future videos.
Thanks for sharing this video. It was nostalgic to watch this video about the hotel. I was working there some 23-24 years ago as part of the construction management team. It took quite a bit of time to build it due to various reasons. I want to stay there nyself someday. It seems like a nice and reasonable hotel.
HELLO “THE FLIP FLOP TRAVELLER” PROBABLY THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST & AREA LAND WISE TOP IN 3rd. IN THE WORLD 🥉🫡🫡🫡… FEW YEARS AGO I’VE BEEN VISITED ALL AREA OF THIS “HYATT HOTEL”, IT’s REALLY COVERED HUGE LAND AREA & ALSO GOLF COURSE~~ BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL ….BLESS YOU ALL🕉️🕉️🕉️🕉️
Ah! Finally, it's here ❤️ I may be the only that's been eagerly awaiting this review for months. I have walked by the edge of this property to the Boudha Buddhist enclave many times, wondering what the sprawling grounds looked like, but its somewhat mediocre reviews didn't entice me. But oh my, I love everything about it. Thanks for the introduction, Kevin.
Hi Kevin. Thanks for awakening some fabulous and happy memories of KTM. And thanks for a recommending another hotel there. I tend to stay at the Shangri La. Thanks once again
Hi Kevin, after watching your video, I booked a visit here in February. If you took a helicopter tour to Mt. Everest, could you possibly mention the name of the tour company?
We were there last year stayed the building is nice but the some people who work there are unprofessional or not very nice. Bad experience with some people.
Of course and my comments are (always) relative to that. Same random day next April: Hyatt Regency Kathmandu: 5000 Hyatt Points = $110 Hilton Kathmandu: 30000 Hilton Points = $180 Kathmandu Marriott: 39000 Bonvoy Points = $273
If you used points to book a room I would also appreciate if you mentioned in the description an estimate of how much the room would have cost if you paid cash, just a personal opinion
I'd rather have dated than a bang up to date premium IT work with a touch phone that doesn't work... As you get older you appreciate a rotary dial phone more and more (even though that is a button pess one). Nostalgia, it ain't what is used to be!
Why did you skip Dhaka, Bangladesh? You never travelled over there and this kangaroo series was your opportunity. If you can go to Kolkata, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka so why not Bangladesh as it was close to those countries you visited?
I mean, "skip" is an odd word in this context. Rather than being a bit judgy, perhaps you could just ask, "Hey Kevin, do you have plans to visit Bangladesh?"... to which I would reply, "Yes." Not to mention Dhaka was never a part of the Kangaroo Route service lol
@@aaronadam4747 Nepal is always a welcoming country while Bangladesh in last few months have been going through huge political crisis along with rise of Islamic extremism.
@tfft Please don't mind that it seems you are very angry with me. The fact of the matter is that Bangladesh is the least traveled place for foreign tourists in the world so it is obvious that you would not be excited to go there. What I meant was that since you were in Kolkata and Kathmandu, Dhaka was just 1 hour flight away (ideal for a brief layover at Dhaka airport Le Meridien hotel) and you could have tried Biman, US Bangla, Himalaya Airlines or even Drukair which has 5th freedom flights (BKK-DAC). Anyways you can make up for it for a full Bangladesh series featuring hotel and flight reviews in your future videos. Sorry for being very annoying. Forgive me.

I am thoroughly enjoying the Kangaroo Route reports. As for this hotel update, the rate for this resort is mind-blowing.
Sure is!
Loved this review and would plan to stay here in the future. The music you chose added a lot to the video. As your choices often do. Thanks

We were there last year stayed the building is nice but the some people who work there are unprofessional or not very nice. Bad experience with some people.
But isn't the value argument highly dependent on locale? Like won't a hotel in Nepal obviously be cheaper than an equivalent one in New York or Paris?
