So you can't actually buy your own fruits and vegetables and make juice with it, you have to keep purchasing single packets. just from that alone it was a terrible idea.
bigbullbk, and you cannot buy the packets without a subscription. Meaning if you wanted only 3 packets they would not sell them to you. You had to sign up for a volume based monthly plan. And the packets expired 3 days after the date of manufacturer. And the machine would not press expired packets.
Literally everything in Silicon Valley is expensive. I had a college friend whose dad worked at Stanford so I spent a week there. Never saw a hint of litter but groceries were ridiculous. The same product that would be $2 anywhere else is $5+ there.
There's a gentrified town on the jersey shore called Asbury Park where you can find expensive juice too. On one side of the railroad tracks are section 8 housing complexes and frequent gang related shootings; on the other side there are dive bars, expensive restaurants, & a cat cafe where you can literally drink coffee with cats. I had breakfast there last week where I spent $30 on 2 smoothies and juice shots followed by a $5 avocado toast that wasn't even a full piece of bread. I wanted to cry.
The sole fact that this thing actually got heavy investment rounds and got into production goes to show how detached from reality Silicon Valley actually is.
No, they shouldn't. A fool is rightly parted from his money. *Especially* a rich fool. You don't think any working-class people paid effing 700 bucks for a juicer, do you?
+jpkjnn Nonsense. There's nothing illegal about charging a stupid price for a gimmick luxury good. There was no false advertising. *The machine does exactly what it's advertised to do:* it does, in fact, press juice out of pouches of finely cut fruit. It's just also completely unnecessary, at a completely ridiculous price-point. And that falls into the realm of buyer beware. In fact, ironically, Juicero investors are ecstatic about this news, because the juice packs are selling twice as well as they expected, and so they can make far more money from far more people subscribing to buy, say, 10 packs a week if the prohibitive one-time presser purchase isn't a barrier. Google it. Juicero prbly isn't going anywhere. The presser will drop further in price, it'll likely be made with cheaper materials in the future, and the minced fruit packs will become the real business. The demand for cold-press fruit juice remains.
My company dropped hella money on this gimmick, they bought 8 juicers and stocked the company fridge daily full of bags, all complimentary for employees. Once they were exposed these were gone overnight, midweek 😂
1. Plastic. 2. Not nearly as fresh as the juice YOU make. 3. You aren't making the recipes yourself. 4. Fewer reasons to support your LOCAL farmer's market - or to even go to your farmer's market. 5. Expensive. This is way more pricey than making your juice from produce you purchased yourself. 6. The MACHINE does just ONE thing... that is it. And if you decide you don't like it anymore, it is garbage. Whereas a Vitamix or Juicer are not tied to a certain company's product to make a glass of juice. 7. The MACHINE costs $700.00, or more than a Vitamix. And the Juicero does only one thing that is tied to the company. 8. If Juicero goes out of business, no more juice packs… that means your Juicero Machine will be a 31-pound, $700.00 doorstop. 9. Yet *another* piece of technology for your kitchen... 10. Did I mention the WASTE products from something this high on the consumer products ladder? So, a big NO from me on this redundant, wasteful, expensive, lazy, not-so-fresh juice product that unquestionably ties you to one company for your juicing. Make it yourself, folks, and enjoy the process, the journey, the truly fresh juice, your self-reliance, your better health. And when you DO want it easy, have your friend, spouse, kids, lover, neighbor, or neighborhood juice bar make you some juice. WAY sexier, friendlier, and better for the environment.
You forgot the main thing, all it does is sqeeze pre made juice out of a bag. If you are gonna buy pre made juice just go to the store and get some juice lol.
ThePastyPrince it actually is chucks of "fresh" fruit in the bag. But still, it's absolutely ridiculous. You're paying $400 for a squeezer. There's a sucker born every minute.
totally argee!! very well said!! the juice I make from whole fruits and vegetables can be messy and time-consuming but it's doable and well worth it! Artsy Scrub It was some kind of a protest march ad and a can of Pepsi solved all the problems. It was aimed towards liberals so I'm gonna assume that's who it pissed off the most. Look it up you'll find news about it super easily.
I come back to this legendary video every few months. I still can’t believe that a startup worth millions of dollars was single-handedly destroyed by a 20 second clip of a dude squeezing a bag
NomadicTechies get out of here with that "organic" bs! organic is not any better for you than non-organic... and studies have consistently shown that. it is just a marketing hype so that businesses could sell you overpriced food. if you read articles that try to sell you on organic, it's embarrassing how much they flip flop on whether it's actually better for you or not.
+NomadicTechies I don't see what's wrong with GMO's. Unless your'e one of those people who think GMO causes autism or some shit, go ahead and buy that $400 juicer.
There isn't a single person in the United States that needs more nutrition... let alone someone that can afford a 400 dollar juicer plus 8 dollar bags of shredded carrots that make two small cups of juice. A food being more nutritious would mean it has more non empty calories or more vitamins/minerals. But I challenge you to find a single study showing you can't get every bit of vitamin/mineral you need and more from your standard, cheap, non Organic/GMO laden diet.
well, idea is, you buy $400 press and you get yourself $40 a week subscription plan for those bags (5 a week) of juice. $40*56 = $2240 a year on juice bags. And you only get 5 servings a week for that price. You don't live alone and you need more? well, just multiply the amount of bags :) Great way of scamming money out of lazy and stupid
No you also need to sign in, connect your phone, be connected to the internet, and agree to have all information given to any company that asks for it. Also if you insert any bag other than a Juicero bag it will refuse to juice it.
You are missing the entire point. The point is that the company that owns the juicer claims that their bags contain chopped fruits and vegetables, and that their machine squeezes the bag to make the sliced produce into juice. However, as the video demonstrated, the bag is basically a capri sun. The bag contains the juice pre-made, and all the "juicer" does is squeeze the juice out of the bag. That's it
I think you over jumped the point. There is chopped fruit in there, and the machine did pull out a little more. Its not just cutting open a bag and waiting for it to pour out. There is some pressing action going on. There's lots of videos on youtube of people cutting open the bags. There's chunks, just most seem pretty soft and juicy already. Maybe there's water added or something? Still takes the woman in this video a minute to squeeze out with her hands. They aren't typically lying. They are just scamming people.
I love how the BGM just stops cold when the tester puts the cup on the counter. It’s like even the instruments can’t believe how dumb this whole thing is.
The whole point of a juicer is to juice fruit and veg (chopped, usually) into juice. A blender can do a much better job than that. Ditto with a soupmaker. This is just a glorified juice dispenser. If anyone asks, I would spend that kind of money on a new gaming console or a run-of-the-mill laptop.
Seems like those packs don't actually contain cut-up fruits and veggies tho. If it can be done by hand they're probably just filled with juice already. So the machine doesn't even squeeze juice out of produce itself, it just empties a juice pack for you. That's so incredibly dumb it's almost impressive how this company survived for that long.
Next time, they should’ve double check the practicality before they mass produce, sell it & unintentionally become one of the factors of climate change or global warming.
@Stix N' Stones Go to Beijing and breathe in the toxic air then. Call Climate change a hoax all you want. One thing is clear. The oceans are fucked in oil and plastic and the toxic, chemical air surrounding us is decreasing our lifespans. The plastic waste caused by this company alone probably fucked an entire river to death. I'm sure you don't care but, in 50 years' time, I wouldn't exactly want to be drinking toxic water and breathing plastic into my lungs.
The greatest irony in the whole story is that if you actually take the thing apart and look at the mechanics it's quite apparent they must have been losing a substantial amount of money per unit even selling them even at $699. They are way overbuilt, probably costing several thousand dollars per unit to make. The juice packs themselves where the only potentially profitable part of the business. Granted, this is the case in a lot of other business models, for example game consoles, where a company might take a bit of a loss on the initial hardware in order sell enough units that they can make profits off the software/fee's/subscription's later. But in those cases, the key is you actually need the hardware to use the product. That's kinda an important part of such a business model.
the biggest fraud is that the bags actually contained presqueezed juice, and not 'chopped up vegetables' that the machine pressed; how they haven't been sued for straight up false advertising is crazy. also you'd think they'd have put in some actual mechanism to make the bags not just dump their juice out when squeezed, lol.
Its worse than this. you cant buy the fruit pouches unless you have the juicer. They literally dont want you buying the juice bags and squeezing them yourself.
I like that they had a person with smaller hands squeeze the bag, too, just to prove that you don't need FOUR TONS OF PRESSURE to squish a bag of pureed veggies.
no expensive as hell id checking qr scanning wifi needing password needing machine YOU NEED WIFI SCAN A QR CODE PASSWORD AND USERNAME PHONE FOR A JUICER
Okay but how the hell did it take TWO YEARS for people to realize this?? Always knew you could cut/squeeze the bags open and get the juice.. The machine is useless
Two years is pretty fast. Folks still thinks that Tesla has been “breaking the mold” by delivering cutting-edge technology. They don't even realize that things like that have been around for years.
What makes you think people didn't know other electric cars are available? Or you just envy by denial? It's not about new or old technology. It's about making it comfortable and widespread by putting parts in correct order and developing supporting infrastructure. Tesla did it great. Others didn't.

So you can't actually buy your own fruits and vegetables and make juice with it, you have to keep purchasing single packets. just from that alone it was a terrible idea.
And each packet is $6. lmfao What a waste of money and resources.
Like those Nescafe coffee pods lol what a scam
bigbullbk, and you cannot buy the packets without a subscription. Meaning if you wanted only 3 packets they would not sell them to you. You had to sign up for a volume based monthly plan. And the packets expired 3 days after the date of manufacturer. And the machine would not press expired packets.
They probably had some 'subscription' service. That's the fad
And the machine would require you to scan the QR code on the packet before using it. Preventing you from using 3rd party packets.

"not now, son ... I'm making--TOAST!"
What a bad invention. I wonder if it has a headphone jack
I still can’t believe this 1 minute video destroyed an entire company.
The sole fact that this thing actually got heavy investment rounds and got into production goes to show how detached from reality Silicon Valley actually is.
Not a juicer, if it doesn't juice? Lol
Harmony Knight it should be called a squeezer and a waste of time
Yeah....."Makes" the juice LOL. It's in a bag pre-made. These people should give their money back to the stupid American consumers.
No, they shouldn't.
A fool is rightly parted from his money.
*Especially* a rich fool. You don't think any working-class people paid effing 700 bucks for a juicer, do you?
CognizantCheddar nonsense. at best they misled, at worst they outright lied. this is a total scam and they should gave charges for it.

1. Plastic.

Here’s 13 reasons why
i love how their main point is buying organic fruits and vegetables can be too expensive so the alternative is a 400 dollar bag squeezer.
I come back to this legendary video every few months. I still can’t believe that a startup worth millions of dollars was single-handedly destroyed by a 20 second clip of a dude squeezing a bag
That video was just…..Epic! 😂
5-8$ for a bag of juice? I can get a whole gallon of juice for $5 or less!
Organic vs well poison at $5 a gallon.
Unless your'e one of those people who think GMO causes autism or some shit, go ahead and buy that $400 juicer.
shit was 700 originally

You don't live alone and you need more? well, just multiply the amount of bags :)
Great way of scamming money out of lazy and stupid
To squease an $8 bag
yeah and also the machine only squeezes the bag if you have WiFi and it's an official juicero bag otherwise it doesn't work
No you also need to sign in, connect your phone, be connected to the internet, and agree to have all information given to any company that asks for it. Also if you insert any bag other than a Juicero bag it will refuse to juice it.
700 then 400 dollars to do something you do just as easy with your bare hands
kibb Kibbie try squeezing juice from a beet or a carrot. something's not right about their test
It's not the test, it's what is in the package. Are the things so finely chopped that it's all but juice already?
You are missing the entire point. The point is that the company that owns the juicer claims that their bags contain chopped fruits and vegetables, and that their machine squeezes the bag to make the sliced produce into juice.
However, as the video demonstrated, the bag is basically a capri sun. The bag contains the juice pre-made, and all the "juicer" does is squeeze the juice out of the bag. That's it
dllemm you missed the point. juocero is scamming people. its ridiculous.

So it's a $400 juicer that only squeezes a bag of pre-packaged juice... Wow 21st Century thinking right there.
They are trying to solve problems that doesn't exist!
Good job, You put them out of business
Seems like those packs don't actually contain cut-up fruits and veggies tho. If it can be done by hand they're probably just filled with juice already. So the machine doesn't even squeeze juice out of produce itself, it just empties a juice pack for you. That's so incredibly dumb it's almost impressive how this company survived for that long.
It's basically a glorified Capri-sun pouch.

ivy ivy ironically the juicer itself is worth much more than 400$. Estimates have put it at over 1000$
The greatest irony in the whole story is that if you actually take the thing apart and look at the mechanics it's quite apparent they must have been losing a substantial amount of money per unit even selling them even at $699.
Yes, Also with printer companies
They reportedly cost the company $750 each to produce.
"Gamers"
Cut open one of the bags prior and after juicing.
This. Supposedly there's "pulp and cut up fruits and veg" Maybe theres more to this or maybe its total bull. I'm guessing somewhere inbetween
Knowing who sponsered it, you wouldn't be far off.
Chad K no, it's total bull. After the bags are done you're supposed to cut open the bags and remove the pulp and put it in your compost pile.
Do they sell "empty" bags to cut up your own fruit and put in the bags?
you are then expected to return the used bags back to the company
the biggest fraud is that the bags actually contained presqueezed juice, and not 'chopped up vegetables' that the machine pressed; how they haven't been sued for straight up false advertising is crazy. also you'd think they'd have put in some actual mechanism to make the bags not just dump their juice out when squeezed, lol.
Its worse than this. you cant buy the fruit pouches unless you have the juicer. They literally dont want you buying the juice bags and squeezing them yourself.
Just squeezing concentrate
