What are your thoughts on this one? One of the worst, or an underrated gem?

I gotta say that Vittorio was my first intro to the Vampire Chronicles, back in the summer of '99. After was Pandora and Violin, which wasn't part of the chronicles but still a good read. I was looking to see if you had done this review yesterday since I recently found your channel. Good stuff from the Chronicles and the Mayfair Witches!📖😺🍻

It wasn't until the next year after a rough high school break up that I dived into the Vampire Chronicles! Just gotta catch up on the last three Lestat books.

I thoroughly enjoyed both Vittoria and Pandora! Pandora because she was introduced in Queen of the Damned. I agree with you in terms of Vittorio's story was fresher and well written and Pandora was a rehash of what learned about her in TQOTD.

    Another excellent review. 👏👏👏
The New Tales of the Vampires are really great stories, sadly we got only two books in this serie. But Vittorio is actually the star in this real new tales. I really liked it. It’s also a shame his story was left to the end.

Yeah I do wish that Rice had developed these stories and the series a bit more. It was an interesting way to continue the series

loved your take!! Vittorio is currently in my To Be Read pile, so when I do pick it up, I'll go into it with low expectations, although for many years now I've been excited to see how she portrayed angels in it. the way her mythos surrounding them has evolved from Memnoch to Vittorio and then the Angel Time books fascinates me.
Rice mentioned in an interview that she wrote it post Armand, so maybe that's why Vittorio has a similar personality! and she also called it her Romeo and Juliet, so I'm interested in seeing how that plays into what happens between him and Ursula. although I find when she writes mainly heterosexual relationships, they tend to feel exactly as you described 🤣
also, totally random, but, I was wondering, since you love all things gothy, have you ever read Gaywyck by Vincent Virga? I'm currently making my way through it and it's a lovely gay take on all the gothic romance tropes that abounded in the gothic romances of the Victoria Holt 60s/70s/80s era. If you have, I'd love to know what your thoughts on it are!
as always, thank you for an amazing video 🙏🏽

I think low expectations might not be a bad approach. That way you might find it exceeds your expectations so you like it more! :P
Romeo and Juliet? Hmm, I'm not sure I could agree with that given the story and the characters, but I suppose it does have an unbelievable romance at the heart of it so maybe it's not that far off!
No I haven't read that book, but I'll add it to my reading list :)

I definitely felt like those book is under-appreciated. I found it gothic and romantic and enjoy it not being so directly linked to the other books.

@@JoshuaJClarkeKelsall Yes, the series had become a bit stale and repetitive at this point for me so it was nice to have this side story. I did like some of the more recent ones, particularly Blood Communion. I need to go catch up on your videos, I particularly am interesting in finding out what you thought of the Mayfair books.
