I just ordered a penn spinfishver v 9500 about a week ago. Going to pair it with a 10'6 medium heavy st. Croix triumph. This will be my first upcoming season targeting shark. Super stoked great video
Awesome! I love that reel. The 10’6 MH triumph is a little on the lighter side as far as shark rods go, so just don’t highstick it when landing the sharks. Other than that, great rod. (I’m sure you probably already know all that.) I’ve made the mistake in the past and snapped my rod from high sticking when the shark is close to shore. I forgot to talk about it in the video. Thanks for watching and good luck out there!🤙🏼
when getting crimps for your leaders do you use the exact size of the line diameter or couple mm up? i was told to use couple mm up and some say to use the exact size as the leader.
In an old video, I broke my main shark rod. That white one is just a backup I found in my garage. I honestly have no clue where it came from. Any 10-12ft heavy rod should work good. I like the ugly stik, and Penn prevail surf rods. The one I broke was a 12ft Ande tournament surf rod, it’s a little cheaper than the uglystiks and prevail
little late but do you know of any 3 or 4 piece rods i could use to catch sharks of these size? going on a trip to the caribbean and need one that will fit in my suitcase
I do not. You would have to get some sort of special travel rod. I’m sure they make them though. Also just an FYI tho, shark fishing is illegal in a handful of Caribbean countries so I’d double check that.
Yo I got an 8 foot rod and a 600 size reel. I have 3 feet of 100lb mono and 48 inches of 250 wire with a hook. Is this good for casting on the east coast of Florida? Idk if it’s too much
@@satellitefishing yeah I was just afraid I’d not be able to cast far cuz of too much wire and mono. I’m in brevard on the east surf so it don’t get deep till about 50 yards
I honestly don’t pay too much attention to it especially with shark reels. Most Daiwa, Shimano, and Penn spinning reels are all pretty similar. The one I use has a 4.2:1 ratio.
For 4-6ft sharks you should try to get a conventional reel that can hold at least 350 yards of either 40 pound or 60 pound braid. There aren’t really “specific sizes”. Each brand and model all come different. In the reel description it will tell you the line capacity
I’ll be in satellite bch with my wife and kids June 30th for a week and just ordered a 10ft penn battle3 8500 and a 10ft penn spinfisher vii 6500. Haven’t fished in a long time but I want to try my hand at surf fishing especially for sharks!
this is the best video on shark gear i have seen. well done, subscribed, look forward to watching more.
Awesome. Happy to help

Awesome video! Just got all my gear, going to be fishing for sharks off the shore in boca.
Glad you liked it. There are some big sharks there
Thanks so much man, you taught me a lot with this video
Happy to help dude. If you have any unanswered questions feel free to ask.
Nice video dude … I’m getting old landshark outdoors video vibes from this
Haha that was kinda the goal. Just made the video cuz people kept asking what I use.
Perfect video and thumbnail
Thanks
Dude this video is so good thanks so much man
Glad you liked it
Where is your local bait shop?

I think it depends on the brand. If you get the “same size” in the same brand they fit perfect. Otherwise I’d try to go 1-2mm up
Where’d you get the white rod paired with the spinning reel?
In an old video, I broke my main shark rod. That white one is just a backup I found in my garage. I honestly have no clue where it came from. Any 10-12ft heavy rod should work good. So if I were to use a PVC pipe, should I cut a spike in the bottom of them or just leave it as is
Do you mean like the slant at the end? Yeah you can. I’m sure it will make it easier to put in the ground. I never got around to doing it.

Ideally you would want a larger reel and longer mono, and less wire. But that could work
@@satellitefishing yeah I was just afraid I’d not be able to cast far cuz of too much wire and mono. I’m in brevard on the east surf so it don’t get deep till about 50 yards
@@aidanobuck5779 I’m in the same area. When the waves are calm, walk out into the water till you are stomach deep then cast. It helps with distance.
What gear ratio would you recommend for a spinning reel?

What is the recommended reel size for the conventional reel
