    A few extra tips for that flash.
    * The white card beside the diffuser should push back into the body if you don't want to use both at once.
    * The unexplained fitting that you opened in the front is a common socket for external power.
    * The foot looks like it's plastic with metal inserts, same as some other brands. The plastic edges can break away so be careful picking the camera up by the flash.
    * The translucent red panel on the front shows that there is probably a focus assist light in there (gives a red light to help autofocus in dim lighting) and perhaps also a receiver for a wireless trigger.
    * When buying a flash for Sony, make sure you get the camera model right as they changed their flash foot a while ago.
    * That foot has lots of metal contacts to talk to the camera. I suspect there might be a setting in the camera so it recognises the flash and gives you TTL metering and exposure. It might be worth chasing that up - flash manuals seem to delight in very tiny print and we give up reading.

    The front port connection on the speedlight is for an external power pack. It's a very common port on most speedlights.

    There is yet another way of use. Set to S1 or S2 and trigger it by built in flash from camera. Light from master flash from camera will trigger second flash (or flashes) positioned anywhere around. Flash power should be adjusted manually.

    At 4:08, that connection is for an external battery pack. That would be used to extend battery life and on other flashes I've seen with it, it also would allow for quicker recycle time.

    I have that flash, and I agree that the two biggest downsides are the size and the lack of TTL. I was very confused by the metal contacts, but doesn't seem that there is a way to make the flash talk to the camera.

    I just stumbled on this and what struck me was the brilliant locking mechanism. I've never seen that before. I'm so used to the annoying plastic screw locking mechanism, and it's on so much photography gear, that I assumed they all used that same style. Is that a Meke-only thing? I need to do some research because I would scrap every flash I have to switch over to that feature.

    Bounce card is standard on most medium to high end speedlites. Cheaper or small body speedlites historically have not been fitted as standard by default. So for a cheap flash to have is a good touch

    That 3-prong electric connection under the infra-red lens is for an external battery. It is a direct connection to the capacitor from the external battery and is a high-voltage connection. With that battery connected, the AA batteries are needed to operate the control panel. The direct connection to the capacitor makes for very fast recycle time and probably lasts longer than a set of AA batteries.

    BUT I think that there are a least two better flashes for the a6000
    the meike mk320 and the godox tt350s
    both are much smaller and lighter
    both have TTL
    both cost less than 80usd
    and the godox even has HSS and an option for a remote wireless trigger

    Good coverage. I, too, think flash isn't something we use a lot, sort of like using Reverse in our automobiles which can be ~1% of the total time we own it. If not shooting outdoors it'd be better to set up static light sources with umbrellas/diffusers/reflectors/etc. Much aesthetically pleasing, too. That think is like a brick.

    Big question for those of us moving from Nikon to Sony. My Nikon DSLRs can program a shortcut key to disable the flash on the fly (My DOF preview was my preference), so I could snap a bunch of pics with flash, then hold down the DOF button while snapping more pics, without flash.
    Do you know of a flash shortcut like that? Kind of sucks having to switch off a godox flash head with the power button to mix flash and non flash pics.
    A6400, external flashpoint/godox flash.

    I bought a Sony HVL-F20M when I purchased my A6000. This Sony flash does a bit better than the on-camera flash but not a whole bunch, so I wanted the bigger Sony flash but I was not going to pay over $300 for it, so I ended up getting the Yungnou 560iii. It looks a lot like the one you are reviewing. The Sony HVL F20M is smaller and compact but the other I would use as an off camera flash with the stand. It gets triggered by my on-camera flash or I can use my HVL-20M if I want a tons of light. So placing the Yungnou behind and above a subjects head, can provide bounce flash all while being triggered by the flash coming from the camera. As for pricing, the Youngnou 560iii was about $80USD and the HVLF20M was aboout $150. Neither of these can do HSS but the Sony flash does TTL. While the Yungnou can shoot at high shutter speeds, I think the highest shutter speed I can use the Yungnou is at 1/200 and get pictures that are usable. Thanks for the review.

      I also have godox TT350s (s means it's for sony) and TT600s. Both TTL flashes. The best budget system I've seen. Most of godox flashes has built in wireless connection. Both flashes that I own can do High speed sync with the remote X1T trigger. BUT I have to say. Even though TT600 is bit more powerful and cheaper than TT350 - it cannot do high speed sync on camera. It can only do HSS off camera. Anyway. I also Highly recomend TT350 (rather than something like TT600) for sony A6x00 series. It can pack a punch, has built in radio, has TTL, has HSS (on camera and off camera) and feels very balanced (for A6x00) and well made. But if you only need multiple off camera flashes then TT600 is the way to go.

    • @PaganiTypeR
      @PaganiTypeR 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      rjun ri, it depends. Do you want your flash to be on camera, or off camera? if it's for off camera then TT600, because it's too big to be on A6x00 and it can't do HSS on the camera, but it does have TTL. Personally I haven't encountered Neewer GN40 and don't know what it's capable of. And neither does anybody in youtube apparently. But if it's anything close to godox TT350 then go for GN40. How long have you been shooting? And do you have lenses other than the kit lens? if not, I would recomend first look into glass, tripods, reflectors. There's a lot of stuff you can do with natural light. But if you feel like you now need a flash then go for it.

    I know this is not related to this video but what lens would you recommend for filming with the a6500(for a beginner, especially using them for vlogging). The 18-105 mm f4 or the 10-18? Thanks so much!

    • @Overkill213
      @Overkill213 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically vlogging is done with a wide angle lens and the 18-105 with the f4 is a great range for video and photography but the 10-18mm would be most vloggers pick for a Run N gun video shooter. It's small compact and is able to be hand held while still ecompass the whole background in the shot on one of those handy gorillapods. Cost wise the 18-105 constant f4 is amazing deal and the 10-18mm is pretty steep price but it packs amazing quality. Either way they look great in video just one is bigger lens with big zoom and other is small handy lens with a nice wide angle shot that has some play in its zoom range. Sorry that was a bit winded and long tons of grammar errors lol

      If Sony can refine the A6X00 series and get rid of overheating issues, that would be nice. Also, I really want them to produce a fast wide prime. Like a 12mm F2 with OSS and fast AF.

    any solution to fire wirelesly with this flash? so you can put flash in another corner and no wires attached between camera and flash?

      Sergii, you can chase up a wireless trigger like the Pixel Pawn, but I suspect the flash might have built-in wireless capability - see my longer post above.

    I think the first picture is so overexposed because you have it in auto ISO which makes the camera chose a way too high ISO for this powerful flash...

    Another vote for the Godox TT350S. Cheap and it works. Also part of a bigger family of products, so if your needs expand, it's still useful. A+l
