Makes perfect sense to me. When modeling wood grain projects like slab tables, with all the grain orientations, I'm glad it works JUST like this.

Don't know if this has been covered in other videos, but it'd be helpful to show how to set a a container's color back to default. Using the "Default" color icon in the "Colors In Model" tab of the "Colors Widow", you can either apply the default color back on top of the container, or drag and drop the default color to the Group/Component color icon in the "Entity Info" window.

Thank you for that! I always struggle to "erase" the unwanted colors applied in the model. It is so basic Aaron didn't think to cover how to do it.

This was super helpful! I knew how those things work, but I really appreciate you mentioning pros and cons, and showing "the right way".

I would love to see similar video on a Scale Tool. When to use it, issues with texture scaling, etc. Btw, is there a way to "apply scale" to a group?

This peels back a few more of perplexing behaviors of SketchUp. Thanks!

One can also paste or copy items into the container, and it will change all the default faces to the container colour, same if u explode items with in the container, it's very handy

would be interested to hear any thoughts on making colors consistant for ifc export. Colors to faces gets ignored it seems, and I get transparency exported, but not always.

Good video, but could have been more to the point. For example, first show an example of the confusing situation and then solve it. That is, select the surface or group, right click > Entity Info and click the X to the right of the color to return to the default colors and start over. At that point most users would get it and move on -- or be ready to hear all the explanations which would then make more sense. The video would be much shorter.

Why is the default circle segments number kept at 24 and not made smoother.i changed it to 100 and tried to save it in my custom template but it doesn't get saved

A perfect question for our forum… but sort of off topic for this video… check out forums.SketchUp.com!

The logic of work in the software must be consistent. You preach that the base geometry should be tagged as Untagged, which makes sense. Why is it the other way around with coloring/texturing? I can't entirely agree with the proposed method, and I argue that you need to color/texture at the group or component level with some exceptions. ... If you look closely, the root of the problem is not in these two approaches but in the ill-conceived super dated SketchUp interface. Experienced users, knowing the pitfalls and nuances, have developed their methods to compensate for software shortcomings. This "painting approaches" debate is a good illustration of it.
