I'm in the waaaaay small minority that feels like TDK is a complete let down (outside of Health Ledger's performance). I don't like that Gotham itself has no real Identity of itself. And I feel like the story tries and fails to replicate the story structure of No Country for Old Men Men. As I feel like TDK actually wants Harvey Dent to be the actual Protagonist (similar to Tommy Lee Jones in NCFOM) as the Joker AND Batman are two unchanging forces (something that the joker even alludes to) and Harvey having the only real character arc. Only his story really falls flat, and his ultimate change to two-face is not very impactful.

And the Joker even says it at one point, that he is an unstoppable force, and Batman is an unmovable object, and the real character, at least to me, that seems to have an arc.. was Harvey Dent, but his story line was the weakest of the three. I also feel that the movie is about 1/2 hour too long. and perhaps the rush to turn Dent to Two-face in that last 1/2 didn't do his character and storyline much justice.
@@feck2594 I also do think that this was a Jonathan Nolan failing, as he followed it up with Re-writes to Terminator Salvation, and many of the same ambiguous protagonist issues happened again.

The sequences are incredible but the black bars appearing and disappearing are such small issues, it’s kinda sad that people are so distracted by them.
It’s a shame that Ledger was really noticed and appreciated after his Joker role. He was known as the “pretty boy Brokeback Mountain guy”. Pretty much how casual movie watchers see Pattison, the “Twilight guy”; even though Pattison has had amazing roles and should already be nominated for an oscar. Let’s not forget “the Gay cowboy” was nominated for that character and was amazing along with Gyllenhall. This is why I don’t stereotype actors. Matthew McConaughey in the early 2000’s was the typical pretty boy in dumb chick flicks but I got to see flashes of greatness in the 90’s with Amistad and A Time To Kill. McConaughey later went back to serious dramas and won an oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.
it's just...it's just...I feel like they left something on the table for the 3rd movie that would've otherwise been made; since they wrote 2 and 3 together...did they burn all copies of that script? can we still get that movie, somehow
They didn't have plans for a 3rd movie. Originally they threw around the idea of making Joker the villain of the second movie and two-face being the villain for the 3rd. But they instead had Harvey as a secondary villain in the second movie. Nolan has said that after all 3 of the movies he wasn't sure he'll make another. He was prepared to end with TDK even if Ledger lived.
