I did Longs a couple times. At one might have been on a weekend due to travel arrangements. Weekdays a much better. There are a lot of people, but they spread out nicely, and most do not summit. The people are also friendly. I found that arriving early helps. I arrived at the lot by 2 AM. I did a ton of research online, and read several climbing journals ahead of time to get an idea of what the mountain held for me. It's beautiful. The climb is serious. There is exposure. Get in shape so that you will enjoy it. Going down is tricky. Take your time.

Yep that's my usual style usually and may try and get up Longs one more time this year with some snow to add some spice.
I was hiking close to Longs Saturday and saw a little snow on the north side but have no idea how much is still there . Best of luck with the climb and enjoy

So much beauty but all those people make me cringe.
I did a trip 2 weeks ago and saw about 10 people in total. 😁
The video should be up today, we Bivy camped at the Boulder field.
    Cheers

Yeah it was insane and I have been meaning to get up there again this Fall but we'll see how the mountain looks after this last snow.
It was good getting up there the first time but I am for sure focused on shoulder season for Longs from now on.

Yes, definitely recommend the shoulder season. It’s a completely different experience without the ppl. I would like to get in another trip some time in Nov. I love snow conditions. I just posted a video from our Bivy camp at the Boulder field. We originally planned on for 5 peaks but you know how Mother Nature has other plans some times..

Great job but definitely a dangerous hike not for everyone, half the people in these crowds have no business being on the trail

In the 80s I climbed Longs 9×. Next time you get up there hike down to the rock at the top of the Diamond and hang your feet over the edge and hold your camera out with your arm and point at your feet. Great pic of your feet and Chasm Lake below!!! Great vid!!!

That's awesome and sounds like a great photo spot! I'll for sure find that rock next time I am up there and may even make it up one more time this year.
      Thanks for watching

I love these videos but please don’t complain about the people when you come on an August Saturday, and don’t complain about rocks if you don’t even bring a helmet.

    • @jakekaiser1399
      @jakekaiser1399  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

My intent was not to complain but here's some more context from my point of view as shooting things in the moment never articulates things perfectly.
I knew i was in for crowds but it was worse than i expected so I was honest in the video.
As for rocks i wanted to earn people of rock fall danger if they are to do the climb. I didnt bring a helmet as a deliberate decision and was hyperaware of people and potential rock fall as i climbed.
      Thanks for watching

I like your images, but holy crap, overstating everything is a serious downer.

I'm sorry to hear that. To be transparent I am still working on finding the right balance of speaking/storytelling and pure nature shots and more cinematic style

@@jakekaiser1399 You’re only partly responsible- our culture teaches that the way to make things interesting is to punch up the negatives and superlatives. So if you’re hoping to boost views and get the largest audience, maybe overstated language gets you there. But Longs isn’t the most crowded peak, by far, and hearing relentlessly about the crowds (who, btw, are folks just like you, looking for a pinnacle experience), just turns your peak experience video into yet another rant about how there are too many people doing what you want to do.
I carried the ambition of climbing Longs since I was 9 years old, 53 years ago. I’m sure that you’re not aiming at 60 y.o. Peak baggers as your primary audience, but I promise you, gaining the top is worthy, in itself. Tell the story of your assent, not the story of how annoying you felt the crowds were. We hear that story every freakin’ day in the Intermountain west.

@changingground Thanks for the added explanation and agree this video had much much more of the crowded narrative than I intended or realized during my climb. For some background I am from a rural part of Idaho and am used to climbing peaks and hiking with few to no people and still to this day occasionally fall back to old habits of feeling uncomfortable with more crowded climbs. I never intended to make the video more interesting or watch worthy with these comments and with me choosing to climb Longs on a weekend in August should have known what to expect. I will keep this in mind and my goal is to tell the story of climbing the mountain and showcase the beauty of these places.
Thanks for the well articulated feedback and wish you some happy hiking this summer
