Neocolor 2 always saves my "failed" paintings 😄 I adore them as a top layer, not so much as a base layer since they lift too easily.
I love how you emphasized the subtle differences in color. I'm trying to get better at that, but I have a longstanding bad habit of precisely matching local colors, which ends up boring.

Great comment. I feel like I'm more bold with my color in the fall. It has been hard to translate that to the summer scenes when it's all green. I often end up just making it look muddy. But it's fun to practice. Thanks for watching.

I am always so inspired by your willingness to experiment and your use of color! This came out wonderful and I’m so glad you didn’t decide to jump ship and start completely over. Neocolor 2 to the rescue! Hands down, I think they are incomparable and one of the most useful art supplies to own. Gorgeous area, gorgeous day, gorgeous art! Thank you for taking time to make another beautiful video and sharing it!❤

Aww thanks ☺️. That first day was discouraging. It was good to walk away from it for awhile and try again another day.

@paintwithpencil. I recommend using pastel mat. it has a toothed surface to it for pastels. like pastel mat or uart paper. Pastel mat especially can handle water.

Thanks! I had wanted to try out those Derwent Artbars, though they had discontinued them when I finally wanted to buy a set. Please keep me in mind If you ever want to sell yours, as they may work for some of my bold abstracts on rough watercolor paper!😁

Awesome. I do think they would work better on a different surface. I might give them another chance. My daughter tends to take my art supplies that I don't use so I think I have to hunt them down first 😂

Where were you,if I may ask? The view is beautiful, and you captured it well. It's not often we get to use highly saturated colors buy fall is def one of those seasons! :)

Thanks Keke! I was at a nice little canyon called South Fork in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah.

Did you originally start with soft pastels Brent? You use a fair number of pastel supplies (board, paper, ground) and techniques like underpainting :-) Thanks for another fun video…I’m packing a lunch and headed to Rainier. I’m a beginning artist so can be self conscious when painting in public, but many of my favorite plein air experiences are when I meet people from around the world and have a bit of a chat when I’m painting in a national park (I live very near Rainier so that’s my usual stomping ground). Art is one of those things that intrigues almost everyone and erases cultural and political differences.

No, but I've learned a ton about art from watching videos from a pastelist. Her channel is Karen youtube.com/@KarenMargulis For my style, there is a lot of crossover between pencils and pastels with the added bonus that pencils are less dusty! Painting in Rainier sounds amazing.
