WOW!! 59 YEARS IN California it's a thrill to see Tulare lake grow and the intelligent thought that went into how to break the levees and Shepherd the water to where it would do the least damage. BLANCOLIRIO RULES!! What good fortune I discovered you, since I am in the Oroville dam floodplain... You've really made exploring the California aqueduct system iJoy for me this year

I used to work in flood-irrigated alfalfa. Those growers had the elevation and tilt of their fields laser cut nearly to the accuracy of a billiard table.

    good for the water table

    • @Yakomoe
      @Yakomoe ปีที่แล้ว +1

Actually they said that the area has a large amount of clay so the water is evaporating not refilling the water table. Crazy yeah all that water is going to make clouds and go somewhere else.

Another really interesting, informative and fascinating report JB, thanks for the update.
And as for the "Take her home Kellen, 3 hours to the north, we'd better get some gas somewhere first".... well, that's another 3 hours towards Kellen's commercial time and tail dragger insurance, you're a good man Juan.

My home airport 92CA is just slightly (1 1/2 mi) to the northwest of the lake boundary. Over my lifetime (74 years) I've seen water in the lake several times, and each time it filled there have been "issues" related to the man made & natural boundaries. In 1982-3 I had an RLK-1 Breezy that I used to "survey" the lake on a daily basis. It would have been fun except for the fact that we (my family's farm) were trying to keep dry!

Good update. It's wild to see the return of this lake - I learned to swim in the Tule River up in the foothills. During heavy floods you could hear boulders tumbling downriver from half a mile away. Needless to say this is not when I was getting my swimming lessons.

My first tailwheel landing was in a Beech 18S way back in 1964. The boss didn’t realise I was the one who had no previous experience, being a trike pp learner. The wheeled landing ended up as a 3 pointer because that was my standard bounce recovery muscle memory. He was shocked but we walked away ok.

fantastic that you give so much time to Kellen to get in the hours increased
someday there will be a payoff when he flies the big buses, take you on holiday somewhere for nothing hehe
i worked in an aviation museum for a bit, i met a guy who told me, years ago when he was a kid, his father brought him to this museum, he sat in a cockpit and his love of aviation was born, he then went onto college to do engineering, got a job in aviation as an engineer, and suddenly found himself wanting to trade to become a pilot, he got his training in, flies big jets, his wife oddly enough was a trolley dolly, not odd at all, they have kids now and he brought them down, so i showed them the best options i had, sit in the Harrier jump jet a GR3 and then the F-4M Phantom, i think that did the trick, kids were happy, mum and dad happy and the dream goes on - that gave me quite a moment of pride, i hope those kids will return one day with theirs

Juan, thank you again for another interesting video of the great Tulare lake farmland.
Only in America to see such great farmland.
I have driven thru it a couple of times and I am most impressed by what I have seen.
The year that I was there, the farm manager gave me a copy of the tomato crops that were being planted in various fields and it amounted to 26, 000, ( twenty six thousand ) acres.
It was a very impressive acreage of just one crop. Cotton was another major crop.
John Deere and Caterpillar Challenger are the two brands of tractors that they use.

Awesome report, being a life long Californian I've seen this a number of times. The pattern I've seen was back in the late 60s, early 70s, I hope we have many more winters with rain so the ground water can replenish. Farmers are heros in this valley and too many times these low life politicians try and put them down and put a target on their backs to divert attention from their bad policies. God bless you Juan and may you always have blue skies.👍❤️🇺🇸

It's thrilling to learn you are also a CFI, taking on the role to properly train and equip with knowledge the next generation of pilots who will fill your shoes when you step down someday. Military trained pilots such as yourself are my favorite especially for ATP. In commercial airliners, I feel more comfortable if I know the pilot at the controls has military pilot training and experience. We both know that civilians can make good commercial airline pilots but military trained pilots have an edge and the kind of experience that civilians will never have or gain. I am curious about one thing though, I know this is a hour building training flight for Kellen but this is also an observation flight for you. So who paid for the fuel for six hours of flight time? It's ironic that my CFI at North Las Vegas airport was also a full time military pilot out of Nellis. I had to terminate my training due to my being prone to spatial disorientation and experiencing total blackout behind the controls. I can't fly anymore so now when I want to go up in helicopters and GA aircraft, I rent the aircraft with fully licensed pilot. I instruct them that if I blackout, do not take evasive action, just stay in the air and give me time to recover then I'm okay. My dream back then was to become ATP, I would've been good at it if not for this issue.
